REPAIR STRIPPED OUT SCREWS ON A BOAT

I am going to show you how to repair stripped out screws on a boat hull. There are screws that must occasionally be removed from the hull of boats under the water line for maintenance and also on my Twin Troller X10.

In case anyone is interested, I had to cancel the original order with Amazon for the 3M 4200 and re-order a new one through Amazon. Today the item arrived and I use that to seal the screws as I replaced the grates. The screws got tight when I screwed them all the way in so this method of repairing the stripped out screws worked as I had hoped. Hopefully you will have the same result if you follow this procedure on your boat. Gerry

In case you are interested in if water is still getting into the hull? I went fishing and then checked the hull after I got home and it was completely dry. That means the water that has been getting into my hull came in through the screw holes on the grates that cover the trolling motors and this repair worked. Finally I have solved the mystery of where the water has been slowly entering the hull. 😊

Glad you’re back I have a question, why not just use a fatter screw (in fact that’s what I did), have you tried that?

I have not tried that but eventually you would need an even larger screw because you are not fixing the problem
could you have cut a small piece of gator patch to seal the hole?

Gator patch is very hard and brittle when exposed to UV light. I suppose you could try using that but I am not sure how sealed a screw going through it would be and how well it would support the grate. Gerry
