Great video! I bought the original part from Whirlpool as you mentioned and it was very easy to change. One thing that made it really easy is that before taking the old part out i attached a string to the old igniter wires and then tied it up to the new one so i did not have to fish thru the hole in the back and the insulation. Took me 20 mn. I did not even take out the burner ramp. Just remove the 3screws. I used a robertson screwdriver to not strip the screws . Thanks so much !

Thanks guys. My whirlpool oven igniter just took a crap when I was trying to make a pizza. My wife is getting the model number from her records she always keeps when we purchase appliances. I'll be doing the install, but don't worry, I'm an engineer...LMAO

Hi! Great video and very easy diy. For my oven it does light up and bake but it have a puffing sound goes on and off as it bake so does it mean the ignitor needs to be replace??? Pls advice since i will be doing this diy.

I just replaced a non-working ignitor in my Whirpool gas oven and the new ignitor gets red hot but doesn't actually ignite the gas...did I mess something up?

This may be a ridiculous question, but I have the exact stove as seen on the video, maytag gemini, but my top oven doesn't light to bake or broil anymore. I know the bottom oven has its own igniter, but does the top oven have two additional igniters? One for broiler and one for standard oven?

Also, if your oven still works as normal, it just takes more than 30-40 to light, the ignitor is very weak, and replacing it will bring it back to normal.

Splice the wires. Use wire nuts.

Can I switch the hot surface igniter with a spark igniter

How might you check to see if this heating unit is the problem …..would it be okay to remove the plates to expose that heating unit …..then turn the oven on and if that unit does not start to glow then you know it’s not working?

Is there a difference in brand/generic igniters? The orginal Kitchenaid igniter lasted about 10 years, the replacement about 6 years, and the last generic one only lasted about a year. Btw the first one died after a self cleaning cycle, so we don't do that anymore!

So we not turning the power and gas off?

Sorry, don't know much about that particular oven.

So what if the connectors do not fit and you have to strip the wire, use a wire nut and tape? The wires are not labeled red/black. Does it matter which one is which?

Don't tape. Use the ceramic type nut. I'm not sure if it matters but I don't think theres a black and white

I went online and found a universal for the brand I need I hope it works I'm still waiting for it in the mail

Question: If the igniter does in fact glow, but the over refuses to light, what else could be wrong if the safety valve is brand new?

Old comment but apparently, it can still be bad even if it is glowing. The resistance of the igniter decreases the hotter it gets. Once the resistance decreases it allows more current to go to the safety valve which is wired in series. After the igniter gets hot enough the resistance drops to the point that the valve can turn on.

The screws are so short it's kind overkill. I just use a 6 in one

My Kenmore turns on and then it reaches a temperature and turns off with an error sound

+Mikido Soto, Jr. Sounds like the Thermocouple if it has one (senses if the ignitor lit a flame, if ignitor doesnt sense the flame then it shuts off the gas so there isnt gas just isnt running without being lit. If its not that then id say gas valve....Just my guess.

I'm missing the tag on my oven it looks exactly like the one you use on this video can you tell me you model number?

Does the gas have to be turned off, or just the power?

touching the new igniter with bare hands is not good for the igniter. Use gloves.
