1) Iodine and Tyrosine
As mentioned, the function of the thyroid gland is to take iodine and convert it into thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3)
Thyroid cells are the only cells in the body which can absorb iodine
These cells combine iodine and the amino acid tyrosine to make T3 and T4. T3 and T4 are then released into the bloodstream and are transported throughout the body where they control metabolism
Your thyroid converts tyrosine (the other building block) into thyroglobulin and attaches between one and four iodine atoms to create T1, T2, T3, and T4 respectively
2) ACV Morning Drink - Cayenne, ACV, Salt, Lemon
Cayenne
Capsaicin is an active component of cayenne that has weight loss benefits due to the release of adrenaline that it causes
ACV
Acetic acid intake suppresses body fat accumulation due to the upregulation of fatty acid oxidation
It upregulates the enzymes SREBP-1 (regulates lipogenic enzymes) and PPARalpha (regulates fatty acid oxidation) while also elevating uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2)
Salt
Sodium depletion alters how the nervous system, including structures within the mesolimbic dopamine system, processes the taste of salt
Sodium deficiency reduces gustatory nerve responses to salt - Neurons within the NST, which receives afferent information from the gustatory nerves, also exhibit altered firing patterns to the taste of salt during deficiency
Similar to the changes in firing observed in the gustatory nerves, the salt-responsive neurons in the NST exhibit reduced firing during deficiency
Interestingly, neurons that respond to sweet tastes such as sucrose begin to fire in response to salty tastes in the depleted animal
Lemon
Lemons contain a soluble fiber known as pectin that increases digestive health - pectin works by binding to fatty substances in the digestive tract, including cholesterol and toxins, and promotes their elimination
3) Overeat, but Overeat with Protein
Study - JAMA
Looked at whether the level of dietary protein affected body composition, weight gain, and/or energy expenditure in subjects randomized to one of three hypercaloric diets: low protein (5%), normal protein (15%), or high protein (25%)
academic.oup.com/ajcn/article...
4) Leptin Spike with Carbs
Study - American Journal of Physiology
Assessed the impact of the macronutrient content of a meal on the postprandial leptin response
22 young healthy subjects (11 men and 11 women) were given, in a randomized order, an isoenergetic meal [carbohydrate (81%) or fat (79%)] or remained fasting
In both genders, leptin response was higher after the carbohydrate meal than after the fat meal and while fasting
In conclusion, a carbohydrate meal induces higher postprandial leptin levels than an isoenergetic fat meal
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
5) Focus on Strength Training instead of HIIT
A study published in the journal Amino Acids had 12 healthy men complete a resting control trial and a trial consisting of ten 6 seconds cycle ergometer sprints interspersed with 30 seconds recovery, in randomised order
Found that with sprinting, plasma epinephrine increased 6.3-fold, whereas norepinephrine increased 14.5-fold at the end of sprinting
www.semanticscholar.org/paper...
6) Switch to Half Caffeine to lessen the load on the adrenals
Cortisol responses to caffeine are reduced, but not eliminated, in healthy young men and women who consume caffeine on a daily basis
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
7) Add Salt
A lack of sodium can cause the brain to send signals to the adrenal gland to increase the release of hormones responsible for water balance (aldosterone & ADH, or vasopressin) - cortisol is released alongside these other hormones
8) 36 Hour Fast - breaking fast after workout in AM
Insulin Variations Study - BMC Medical Genomics
bmcmedgenomics.biomedcentral....
9) Switch White Fat to Brown Fat
Turmeric
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
Cold Therapy/Lowering Temperature
www.jci.org/articles/view/67803
www.nature.com/articles/s4159...
10) Once applied, utilize Keto or HFLC to Keep LBM
Weight reduction is accompanied by a slowing of energy expenditure, or RMR, which is why weight regain is so common after dieting
Study - Keto & RMR

I hear you😟. I'm 58 and also have a thyroid issue. After giving birth 21 years ago my weight hasn't been the same with so many ups and downs. I finally believe I have it now with OMAD and intermittent fasting. 29 pounds down with another 6 left but I think I'll lose 10 more.

You are right eating right is not just affecting you at the very moment. Food merely the wrong choices will show it's effect years later and even decades. I do want to point out that not all is what it seams on the surface, some people even with poor choices do not suffer ill effects of food and live to a ripe old age unscathed of illness. The more important piece of information I wont to put out is the one that comes with age some wisdom gained and a lot of suffering. There are countless individuals who suffered trauma UNRELATED to poor lifestyle choices and merely surviving horrific abuse growing up, mental and physical tourture and mere poverty. Again I am not talking about people making poor choices, these are the people that have had to walk through adversity and are still standing. And decided to change at this very point in their life when the mind and body were able to comprehend even though everything is still against them. Can we applaud them or do we use a broad whip and chastise them even further. We do not condemn a soldier that suffers PTSD, or do we? So there are legitimate reason people acquire health problems beyond their understanding. So I am all for GRACE. After all Jesus has GRACE and MERCY for us. God bless you and awesome you are the one that understood lifestyle choices early on and was able to thrive in life. 👏🙏👍

@@coldwinter5710 not really a secret formula, I tried the old calorie In/out method over the years with little long term success and it didn't work anymore with all the illnesses that hit at once. So I had nothing to loose and started fasting with bone broth to reset my metabolism and help the insulin resistence. Now I teether between Carnivore (my favorite.. less carvings less work.. less inflammation) most days I am able to do the intermittent fasting 18/6 but not beating myself up anymore if I fail. And I ask God to help me on days I can't. Was praying for 4 years for GOD to make a way in this valley I found myself in. With sickness came the job loss and the unworthiness and the lack of resources to make these changes possible. The fatigue was worse than the pain. I watch a lot of you tube and pick the most relevant issues I am facing and add to it as I go. Dr. Berg, Dr. Ken Berry, Dr Jason Fung,Dr. Ekberg and about 3 others. I hit a plateau after surgery but was able to keep the weight within 5 pounds for 3 month without water aerobics. God bless you and HE said in HIS word when we are weak HE is more than able to do it on our behave. Believe it because HE also says what he does for one HE will do for you. I am believing for a miracle and in the mean time give hope to the ones who need it more than I do. 🙂

This video is what I needed so bad. So much great advice to try. I have suspected I have metabolism or thyroid issues for a long time now. I have a pretty long history of crossfit and functional training and I have been intermittent fasting fairly regularly for almost 7 years. I haven't been to a crossfit gym in like 6 years, but still workout very regularly at home. I carry a lot of muscle and am a stocky 5'8 guy who has always been around the 175lbs area with a 29-30" waist. And whenever I started slacking and saw my weight increasing, I would buckle down and easily melt it off. Now...beginning around august 2020 and onward...I have ballooned up to 200lbs (198 today). And despite all my fitness and nutritional knowledge and my repeated attempts...I just kept gaining and couldn't lose it. And I am not used to that. When I put my mind to it and work hard and clean my eating and calorie consumption...I always would get results. And now...nothing seems to work. I have made at least 10 attempts to "grind"...but when I hit the two month mark and haven't lost a single measurement or pound...it really screws with my motivation to continue past that 2 month mark. Something "feels" off with myself. My sleep has always been crap (I am a shift worker). So that doesn't help. Everyone around me is like "this is what happens when you reach 40". I refuse to accept that. I did go through a lot of life changing stress in 2019. And I spent 2019 trying to kill myself through workouts, for coping. I literally went David goggins style almost daily for all of 2019. While doing my normal shift work. And then I let my foot off the gas in 2020 and went back to "normal" workout and life routines. Did I destroy my metabolism and fry my adrenals and/or thyroid with my 2019 antics? Or all my intermittent fasting? Or all my stress? Or reaching 40 years old? Or my shift work for past 10 years? Or combination of it all? It seems no matter my deficit, no matter my workout volume...I can't lose weight now And then I watched this video and it gives me some hope. Thank you I will try to use a bunch of advice in this video and make another attempt (11th).

Love this!!! Recently I started introducing pasta every few weeks and I’ve been loosing more weight!! I couldn’t find an answer for this until now - must be that leptin thing you’re talking about!!!! Ive been OMAD fasting for over 2yrs and I am hypothyroid (from total thyroidectomy) - I feel like some of the things you’ve mentioned are really important!!! The only thing is fasting decreased My T4 conversion and increased my Reverse T3 so my Dr had to up my dose and no-one talks about this!! I read that Reverse T3 is all about needing Carbs - that’s what led me to experiment with eating alittle carbs again. So glad you mentioned this because I think this is an uncharted area for us thyroid folk who find that fasting isn’t as straightforward as it is for non-thyroid people. P.s my medication dropped and my weight went back down after rising slightly once I started having a carb meal once a week / fortnight.

Thomas, thanks so much for all your help. I figured it out about 4 months ago, I didn't have slow metabolism but my fat intake was high and my protein was low, so I deducted 25% of my fat intake and added 25% to my protein intake and I can't stop loosing weight. I am 90% carnivore and 10% vegan, it works for me. Thank you again 👍👍👏👏

OMG Thomas, thank you for doing this video! I've been following you for several years now and love the content. But this one is definitely what I needed. I am 43 years old and am struggling big time with weight gain, although I haven't changed my diet habits (not perfect in my eating by any means but I don't go hog wild either). Been feeling like it's my Thyroid. Will definitely add iodine in the form of seaweed sheets as well as chromium, and will take a break on my HIIT training....as well as my coffee consumption (single tear rolling down my cheek). Thanks again! Keep on rockin' it!!

Tip for the ACV drink! If you have “Lite Salt” or any salt with potassium, that would be the best to add. Not only will it help balance the flavor, but you’ll be getting a little extra potassium, which will help your muscles stay energized throughout keto (or any other lifestyle diet). Get magnesium through a supplement or leafy green veggies!

You can get quite a bit of iodine if you use Redmond's salt (on Amazon) from an ancient sea bed in Utah. It's the purest available and no radioactivity, like Himalayan pink salt.

If you read Jeepgurl's comment, you'd seen this: #1 Pay attention to thyroid (get more Iodide and chromium) #2 ACV drink (10-12oz water, 1-2 TBSP ACV, 1/2 tsp cayenne, lemon, pinch of salt) #3 Eat more protein #4 Get leptin spike (w/ carbs); don’t mix meal w/fat (no sugars) #5 Back off on HIIT exercise, strength training instead for a while #6 Reduce caffeine intake by half #7 Add good quality salt #8 Try a 36-hour fasting #9 Convert white fat to brown fat by adding turmeric, using cold water therapy #10 Utilize a LCHF diet for maintenance You're welcome, now follow it and be grateful.

@@Scouter5050 Yeah, thanks for the summary I didn't ask for, I watched the video. Also, thanks for being condescending and not understanding. By all of this being complicated I don't mean that I don't understand it, but rather that there's so much stuff you have to do and the amount of knowledge you need to have for this to work. All these supplements and diets and whatnot. It just baffles me that you need all of this to have good metabolism. Pretty sure back in the day people didn't have all this knowledge and modern inventions and supplements and all that.
