He's not an employee that can be fired. He's an elected lawmaker in the House of Representatives that can only be expelled by two-thirds votes in the House. But as an elected official, he is excluded from eligibility for unemployment benefits.

I don't think so. There is still the upcoming court trial after his indictments. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to run for re-election while being incarcerated in prison either. That's exactly what the last House Representative, James Traficant, did in 2022 after his expulsion from the House.

What I can't figure out is why Santos didn't pay back any questionable transactions and why that wasn't done before ethics probe. Just say it was a mistake and was taken care of, no harm done. Didn't anyone tell him he could do that? Also hire an experienced accountant to guide him on future transactions, he obviously doesn't know how to handle money.

@@qchav2574 Technically, paying back an improper transaction is not a theft, changes it into an accounting error which is much less serious.

Friggin republicans are worried about setting a new precedent in expelling Santos. So, what precedent are you setting by accepting his behavior?

Santos's reaction to the upcoming vote is classic politician. "Hey I didn't do anything wrong."

Santo's needs to go, Lauren Boebert, MTG, and so on. There are also some on the Democratic side that should also go like Bob Menendez and a couple more. Maybe they need to trade, you get rid of this many and we will get rid of equal amount. There are bad in both party's. There are two that I wish the Republican Party never met are, Trump and Ramaswamy.

This is a sad day because at the time of this writing, the vote hasn’t taken place so we don’t know the fate of George Santos. Here’s what we do know; 1. Character doesn’t matter. Oh I get he’s innocent until proven guilty but it’s not about that at all because his legal issues notwithstanding, we already know his campaign but was built on a web of lies and fabrications. That’s already been litigated. He’s not Jewish His grandparents are not Holocaust survivors He never worked at Goldman-Sachs His mother did not die in the towers on 9/11 He does not have any degrees at NYU or Baruch college and he certainly was not on any volleyball team He lied about founding an animal charity 2. He represents a number in the House majority George Santos is a made up character and with his party, it won’t matter because at the end of the day, he represents a number. He’s a GOP vote and Mike Johnson will ignore his character and baggage in the name of preserving his majority lead. I’ve been voting since 1980. I remember the days when character mattered. Things like honest y, integrity, dignity and behavior were not just expected from our elected officials, it was revered. Being held accountable was a thing. My party affiliation has remained neutral. Although I am more philosophically aligned with Democratic issues, I have actually voted equally GOP and Democrat and I even voted for Ross Perot. I look at the character of the candidate. Call me silly. And so in this day and age of politics, I find it sad that out our politicians don’t police their own - Whether it be a fellow congressperson or the president. I don’t understand where this spineless, lack of courage comes from. We the People? Sorry, that’s dead. It’s We the Party

With Santos ousted, Lindsey Graham can reclaim his position as the Republican's resident queen. I can picture me Graham dethrone Santos by pulling him down by his hair, calling him the b-word. If Andrew Clyde pass by while it happen. He will just shrug and think, nah it is just some play for the tourists

It applies to everything from a child objecting to severe punishment for stealing a cookie when his sibling gets lesser or no punishment, to an Attorneys Generals who won't indict the son of a president on evidence for which he would or has indicted others. Whataboutism describes what is effectively obstruction of justice and vexacious prosecution both rolled into one act, or inaction, as the case may be.

No they don't. Most people would immediately think of Trump. Experts assert that the average person lies 2 to 3 times a day. Even if President Biden, or anyone else for that matter, lied that much per day they wouldn't come anywhere close to the over 30,000 lies and misleading statements Trump made during his 4 years in office.
