What's funny is that if you play Rental a second time, the ending is completely different. Your family hasn't even reached the house yet and your dad makes a comment about how the fog seems to be getting worse and that you may be lost.

@@goobermcnoober8140 Man, that’s how I made two friends in the middle school bathroom when I was younger. Here’s the story, this dude comes walking up to the door like how you said, and I returned the favour after wiping and just intensely stared him down in return. Like it was a random staring contest, and then a third guy walks in asking the other guy what’s taking so long. Then it’s just silent, the dude on the other side of the stall looks at me with this deadass look in his eye, and then looks at his friend. Who finally asks what the hell he’s doing. And all this guy outside the stall says is: “Having a staring contest with this random guy i found on the toilet.” in a monotone voice. Something we laugh about over drinks still to this day whenever it comes up

So regarding Rental. I'm pretty sure the Rental Man was stuck in the house, and then fled the house by fooling Umi into doing that ritual, which allowed him to steal her body and leave the house. If you compare the face Umi makes at the end to the expression of the Rental Man, they're both exactly the same, which is why I think this happened.

It’s something out of the Witch’s House, the main character escapes from the clutches of the witch but as it turns out, the moment she left the mansion she reveals she brain swapped each other

The chant the bunny says during the ritual “pirika pirilala poporina peperuto” is the magical chant from Ojamajo Doremi (old magical girl anime) that the girls use to cast magic. Manly’s pronunciation was really good for a first time reading :0

I recognized it immediately since I grew up with that show!

All three are fairly solid. I definitely liked Rental the most, it's not particularly scary but it's got a nice feel to it. Exploring an eerie place, bunny people, cool visual style. It works.

In the birdwatching one, the location is called Mt. Pallas. That name is the most common epithet of the goddess Athena (written as Pallas Athena). She is very strongly associated with owls, they’re her main symbol throughout her mythology. So, that’s a roundabout hint from the developer to expect an owl.

I gotta beware of Manly's uploads at 2AM more than any stalker at 2AM.

Oh man I loved that rental man game. The aesthetic felt like a good harmony between both PS1 and N64 tech, had a little bit of that Animal Crossing vibe with the characters while also maintaining the spooky vibe of older horror games. I love that it just ended like an inattentive kid's daydream, leaving you to wonder if the house really was bad news or just Umi spacing out. I think a minor joke that might go over people's heads is that her name is Umi, the word for Ocean in Japanese, her dad mentioned the ocean and there were seagulls (jp: umineko) for ambience in the opening scene. The humor was quite good for a short game about a house that likely won't let you leave.

I really need to see more from the Rental devs. Really cute, and I honestly love how it wasn't a cute thing become gore thing kinda horror. I admit though, that some of this bias comes from the fact that I really like rabbits.

I especially liked Rental! The style of the characters reminds me a lot of Animal Crossing, whereas the camera angles as you explore the house kind of reminded me of certain parts in Majora's Mask, like your stolen room in the Inn.

@@notyou6501 his voice definitely is soothing. Only time that would be a problem is when your phone accidentally switches to him playing a horror game and then you hear him get jump scared

I wish people would name their projects something less ambiguous. Like, it's hard to find people talking or giving their thoughts on Rental because, "Rental review," doesn't help narrow down the search. These games are all good, I just miss when titles were longer.

I can tell many haven’t played the full game or read the (readers guide) the dev uploaded which tells a whole different story than what you’re looking at😭 it’s really good and wish I could find more ppl theorizing about the game or at least talking about it

i did NOT expect to see a Ojamajo DoReMi reference in a horror game!? funniest thing is, it totally feels like something a kid would do in such a situation www

DUDE! So some friends and I made up our own criptid when I was a teen called Wereowl. It was the most horrifying thing for something we just made up. I struggled to walk out to my car that night (I live way out in the country) Can you imagine a humanoid owl hunched over a mangled animal snacking and when you startle it, it's head spins 180 degrees to face you without moving it's body. Those huge round eyes staring through your soul!

Rental was my favorite of the 3. I like that it wasn't too grim and the art was cute. I also liked how weird it felt for the character to be told that they had to do a ritual and how they winged it. Surreal I think is the word. Bun!

I really like this format of just playing a bunch of small games at once instead of making like a 7 minute video for a pooper horror game it's own

Okay, that the game calls the villain the "Stallker" when he haunts bathroom stalls... I love it!

_Public bathroom stalls are creepy 24/7_ I guess there was a real life Owl Man that was seen in Cornwall England. The little bun was adorable saying "I wish I could sleep on a bed this big". And the mirror maze there was very spooky. Very creative.

Umi just had whole Spirited Away/Alice in Wonderland ex machina occurrence.

Fun fact: 17:17 "Pirika Pirilala Poporina Peperuto" Is from Ojamajo Doremi (Magical Witchling Doremi in English).

Did you notice the subtle pun in that stall message. "The Stallker" Stall-ker! Genius

In Mexican folklore, there’s an owl witch called La Lechuza. The second game immediately reminded me of it. I’m not too sure if it’s any different for others since Mexican folklore tends to have many different versions, but my mom always warned me to never whistle at night because that’s how she finds you.
