One year ago we had a most fabulous Italian trip that included a stay in Umbria: a spa in Travernelle. We so loved that area...the hillside towns were calling for us to visit them and we couldn't see them all. If we go back, we will spend more time in Umbria. - Relais Villa Monte Solare. We love Tavernelle! We were just there again this morning. It's about 10 mins from our house so we go often. We know exactly what you mean about this beautiful area, it's why we bought a house here in the middle of our travels. Thank you so much for watching💞🇮🇹

I will always have a fireplace insert. The heat is amazing . We usually heat our kitchen family room and dining area with the fireplace.

You sure did bring so much more light into your home with the additional window you had installed. Quite the process of going through a stone wall on the outside, but I am sure you both knew they could do it and what the end result would look like!! In a short amount of time it's amazing to see how you have transformed your home with the vision you had for it.. The Bar area is very cool. The fact that you found the bar at a local store makes it all the more charming. I look forward to one day sharing a bottle of wine with you both sitting out on your patio watching the sunset together.. Miss you so very much.

Your renovations are gorgeous. I do agree about Pinterest, lol. But is is an inspiring site for ideas. BTW, I went back to watch your video on Ferragudo. Thank you. We are going there in November and will stay for a week exploring the Algarve. We were there this June for 2 weeks with the whole family and I’m just smitten with the area.

My wife and I are buying a house in Italy and Umbria is very high on our list. We intend to relocate using an Elective Residency Visa and are wondering what part of Umbria you found your house and if you have recommendations of other areas in Umbria to look for a house. We are not interested in living in an isolated house far from people. More like near or in a small village close to larger population centers. Thank you

Holy moly, a new video! Quick question -- you've mentioned previously that your house is fairly remote. Did you have difficulty finding your builder due to the travel time? Also, how does property tax work in Italy? Do your improvements affect your taxes?

When we say 'remote' it's probably not very remote in some people's standards. We are about 8km from a town that has several grocery stores, restaurants and other stores so no issues getting contractors out. I'd say the state of the road to the property might be more of a factor than the distance, although builders will be happy to drive on sub-par roads for the right project and price :-) Property tax on the primary residence is currently 0%, this is supposed to be a temporary measure but has been in place for a number of years. I also suspect that it would be hard to roll back the tax break, Italy would probably raise taxes on (typically higher valued) secondary residences and investment property. If there was a tax, then yes it would impact the value and therefore the taxable value of the home.
