Renovating a narrowboat - My Progress so far!
Спорт
This is the first in a series of videos where I renovate my 43' long narrowboat, Joshua.
I bought this boat in December 2023. I've never owned a narrowboat before so I am learning everything as I go. The interior used be be really dark, depressing and a bit run down, so I decided I would refit the boat.
Follow my journey as I do all the work myself, learning as I go.

Nice boat Edd. Look forward to future progress videos.
Brock from Canada. Your copper water pipes will split when frozen. You might be better using "PEX" piping it is a pipe that will expand and contract without bursting when frozen. Have a good day.

Thanks Brock. Yes they will split but it should never be below freezing once I'm living on board. If I know I'm not going to be on board for a period of time when the weather is cold then it's easy to drain the system down.
I absolutely love what you are doing with your boat, I love the flooring, it is beautiful 🤩

Thanks so much! Yes, I'm really proud of my floor. Can't wait to sit in the living room and admire the lovely wood grain!

Thanks Edd! 😃
Loving the progress and your concept for the finished product mate! Look forward to following along 🙂 (It's great that you're trying all this stuff for the first time as well. Would love a short video of the process of you learning something new as you create it for your boat!) Keep creating content mate, I love it all 👌 P.S. - Are there any more unicyclelife podcasts on the horizon?

Thanks mate. Really appreciate it. Glad you're enjoying my content 😊 This boat has been taking up a LOT of my time, which is why I haven't been doing a lot of much else, but I do have some ideas for new podcast episodes in my head. I did actually speak to someone about being on the podcast at EUC winter a couple of weeks ago. I just need to sort out a call and do it. Thanks for the reminder 👍
This looks great! Did you replace your subfloor? I need to replace some of mine following a plumbing leak and am looking for tips. Also, can I be cheeky and ask which green paint you used?

Thank you! I didn't actually replace my subfloor. I was going to if it needed doing but the ply was all really good still, so I didn't see the need. I did have a couple of areas which had a bit of give and squeaked, so I spent some time putting extra screws in and that sorted it out. The green paint is GoodHome from B&Q. The colour is called Limerick. I used the silk version which I'm happy with. I did actually buy the matt version to start with but it really absorbed the light. The silk one seems to reflect enough to make the room feel bigger without being offensively glossy. Hope that helps!

Thank you, that does help! Did you need to use primer? I’ve started sanding my wall panels but I’m not sure if I need primer too.

@@bettyonaboat I didn't use primer but I think it would be better to do so. I had to use several coats to get decent coverage. Using primer would probably use a lot less of the green paint.
Why did you use the wrong paint on the outside? Didn't you Google it first?

I used Rustoleum, which I'd used before with good results on vans. Rustoleum is designed to be applied directly to metal and we used a primer. so now it's flaking off in a lot of places.
Your fire is on the wrong side . the chimney will get damaged under bridges.

It's been like this for 40 odd years and always been fine so far 🤷🏻♂️ I suppose if I come to a really low bridge I could take the chimney off temporarily.

Depends on what side the towpath is on.
Looking good inside ❤
