@@_de_reve i don't think it's confirmed about his ethnicity, since he only went to school that teaches korean language and cultures. It's possible due to Jilin being the border of china-korea so the culture and language is mixed. He too never addressed this issue so we shouldn't assume, what is clear is that he's chinese by citizenship. If we're talking about ethnicity well both Korean and Chinese literally came from the same ancestry, or what is known as east asian.

iirc his grandma really enjoy korean show and music so he often watches shows with his grandma when he's at her place (which was pretty often?) that's why most things he knows are old lol. it's also where his love for space and stars begin because he used to walk around her neighborhood at night and the sky night were very clear there

I read that he's from jilin and the descendants of jilin have korean blood but the people there are considered chinese. I dont know the history behind it. Also, they said renjun attended international school where people with korean descent go. The predebut clip of him acting in korean is the school they were talking about. Idk if it's true tho.

Well, c-fans indeed assume that Renjun is chaoxianzu (korean ethnicity people in china) because while there's many korean descendant in jilin (his hometown), the percentage of korean people there aren't that high compared to han people (wikipedia said it's 4% vs 91%), so renjun attended korean ethnicity school was some sort of telling his actual ethnicity because why non-korean descendant attend korean ethnicity school? It's still just assumption because Renjun himself never confirmed it but if c-fans who knows their country's situation the best assuming renjun is chaoxianzu, then it's most likely right 😅

Lol it's not that common for non-chaoxianzu to attend Korean ethnicity schools, but there are exceptions. Back when I was in 1st grade there was 1 non-chaoxianzu student in my class iirc(I'm Chinese Korean and I've lived in China for 6-7 years so I went to a Korean ethnicity school for 1st grade). Some parents realize that if they enroll their kid into a Korean ethnicity school then they'll learn both Korean and Chinese, making them bilingual. Plus learning Korean and Chinese simultaneously, you also start learning English in 5-6th grade, which means you're basically learning 3 languages in school.

don't forget that this guy always pull the "im a foreigner and Korean is hard" card

Ethnically, he IS korean lol. To put it simply, Renjun is like Johnny and Mark, a korean descendant that lives overseas. But unlike Johnny and Mark, Renjun (and seems like his entire family) did more contact with their korean ancestry (he went to korean ethnic school in china back then) so he's more familiar about korean language and culture then resulted him appears more korean than Johnny and Mark.
