Rengoku and Tengen: What It Means To Be A Hashira (Demon Slayer)

Ойын-сауық

I love the concept of the Hashiras, and the way they've been portrayed so far in the anime has just been spectacular. In this video, I analyze these two hashiras, what they represent, and what it means to be...A HASHIRA.

You gotta love and respect the way Tengen throws the alley-oop for Tanjiro to dunk all over Gyutaro. Usually its the guy who dunks the ball who gets the credit, but Tengen did what had to be done to make the necessary play. At first I thought no way anyone could follow up Rengoku’s performance but Tengen is a serious badass, and honestly every one of 4 hashira they’ve focused on so far have been incredibly cool and unique characters. Suffice to say this show does very well with its characters and it’s not solely the animation carrying it to so much success

The animation most definitely is what is carrying most of this anime's success. That being said, as someone who does think Demon Slayer is disgustingly overrated, the Hashira remain the one aspect of the show I genuinely believe are well written and have consistently been the thing in Demon Slayer that I've had no issues with what so ever. Pretty much all the characters I've enjoyed the most (except Inosuke) have all been Hashira.

Tengen and the Kamaboko trio: *perform a miracle kill that hasn't been done in 100 years* Obanai: yeah that's okay tho but wtf why just number 6 tho? Also contrary to popular headcanon, Obanai was late because Hashira are assigned to specific regions of Japan, so he likely had to run there from miles away. Not helping was how he was the slowest Hashira due to habitually running in a zigzag pattern Also, Kyojuro is the only Hashira to consistently arrive on time throughout the whole series. Mitsuri even lived right next to the fight and still got late at one point, while Muichiro was already at the scene for different reasons. Giyuu is always late due to being terrible at gathering information, and he sometimes even gets misidentified as the guy who killed the demon's victims, even almost getting arrested at least once.

Tengen is underrated asf he's only considered weak cuz he didn't unlock mark like the other hashira, and he stood strong like a gigachad against gyutaro base. Other hashira would probably have died from the poison (without mark) except for the gigagigachad gyomei since they don't have poison resistance experience. I may add that in the time before the mark, Tengen was easily 3rd or 2nd in the ranking. The only points he lacked in were a proper breathing technique and he has no katana. But his physical strength and his hax like peak senses, musical score and shinobi body control as well as his endurance, stamina and speed were just really good. He's also the only hashira in this period who actually tracked down and hunted an upper moon. And it was the most hidden one. But no. I'd definitly say Rengoku captured to essence of being a Hashira and a symbol better, this is proven even more as he dosen't get nearly as much screen time yet he still remains relevant even after his death. It all just rolls back on his fortitude, Rengoku stood alone against Akaza. Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu were all way to weak to aid him in his fight, so he shined through the darkness even though he stood alone. Uzui on the other hand got alot of help from the trio, as they're stronger now and can actually aid in the battle rather than just get in the way of the Hashira. All I'm saying is that a beacon is portrayed better and more clearly if it stands alone, yet still shines through till the end.

Though we never see Kanae's fight with Doma, I always imagine it was similar to Rengoku's against Akaza. A fight where the hashira did not relent and kept on fighting until sunrise. Until Doma had to leave or risk dying from the sun. Kanae still lost, but she held back the number 2 upper moon until the sun started to rise.

Really love how the series manages to make the Hashira so different from one another yet deep down, share a common goal. Rengoku really did serve asa great introduction to what it meant to be a Hashira and the price that must be paid to protect innocent people. and the lives of those you care about. Tengen adds onto what Rengoku taught us to show us that the Hashira aren't perfect and all had been brought up under different circumstances. Yet, regardless of where you came from, you can change and do your best to grow yourself. Physically and morally. I think that's the beauty of Rengoku and Tengen. They are both these older brother mentor figures with such different ways at handling a situation. But at the core, they have a deep respect for themselves and others and will do anything to protect those they care about.

After the fight against Gyutaro and Daki they must've developed by leaps and bounds, so they need to show us how much stronger they have become. Kyojuro is the definition of a "real man", of the kind of man every woman desires, and every man desires to be. Tengen is also awesome, though less of a gentleman. His flaws make him more human, though, which has its own appeal and charm. His loyalty to his wives is inspiring as well.

I firmly believe that Rengoku is the calm and kind older brother who tries to do things for you and shows you things Tengen is the rough and spuratic older brother. He teaches you by making you do everything with him. And while he can come across as a hard ass or a jerk he loves and cares about ya more than anything else. Both of them are amazing teachers

Rengoku set the Hashira example. Tengen set the Hashira experience. I think Tengen likely knew that Rengoku made them stay outta the battle. So he wanted to do something different and make them engage in the battle.

This is what I keep telling people. The Demon Slayer anime is AMAZING!! But the author wrote an amazing story. It's inspiring and deep, even as it is simple and straight forward. The beauty of Demon Slayer the manga is that it knows the story it wants to tell, and it tells that story well. The beauty of Demon Slayer the anime is that it is stunningly animated and breathtaking.

Adding to your point, tengan even let's his wives help him on dangerous missions.. whereas rengoku goes solo for most.. i an sense rengoku is like a brighter sasuke and tengan is an extremely cool naruto 😂 Also, this is a personal opinion, but the small assymtery in the thumbnail bugs me a little.😅 Not that it takes away from the video experience which was *chef's kiss*

Can we please get an updated version of this to include Muichiro Tokito. I loved his arc in season three, going from arrogant as can be simply because of he gained the title of Hashira. To flipping that around and being a selfless, protective, inspiring leader like a Hashira should be. Like Rengoku and Tengen.
