Rener Gracie vs. Purple Belt (Both Hands Tied Down) from GracieUniversity.com

This is a video sample from the new Gracie-Narrated Live Sparring Video Library now available at www.gracieuniversity.com/subs.... In this incredible new library, we give you unprecedented access to the live sparring sessions at the Gracie Academy headquarters. In each video, you'll watch Ryron, Rener, or one of the other Gracie Academy instructors, sparring with partners of all shapes, sizes, and skill levels in gi and no-gi training sessions. You'll also see how the Gracies use targeted focus sparring exercises -- such as positional sparring, fight simulation, and handicap sparring (two people vs. one, one arm tied down, blindfolded, etc) -- to optimize technical master and reflex development. Best of all, every sparring match is fully narrated by Ryron or Rener Gracie! Not only will you be able to see how all the techniques should be applied in real time against resistant opponents, but you get to listen in and learn the exact thought process the Gracie Brothers use to make it all possible! The bottom line is that this video library will help you reach technical and midset mastery faster than ever before, making it an essential growth tool in the arsenal of any dedicated Gracie Jiu-Jitsu student! These insightful videos can be viewed on any Smartphone or Mobile device but they can only be accessed through Gracie University. With new Gracie-Narrated sparring videos being uploaded every month, this is certainly one of the most important and entertaining video libraries every offered by the Gracie Brothers!

    I tried going for his collar, Rener is about 6'3'' I'm around 5'9''. I was having a hard time reaching for his lapels, and he obviously knows this would be my "ideal attack" since he doesn't have hands to use to defend. He makes it all seem very graceful, but he's making very subtle movements that are perfectly timed and executed. Pure GJJ.

    Your a boss man. Through your Gracie breakdown videos, you've shows me bjj, the one thing I love doing in life. Before this it was just college, home, high. Not knowing what I want to do in life but this is it!! It's changed me in many ways, I've stopped smoking, started exercising, landed a job and going to join a bjj/ mma centre once I can afford it. As the purple belt in the video (Vinnie), all I can say is Dang!! Hahaha. Anytime Rener calls you to spar, just walk the other way. This drill was really fun. It was good for me too, because it made me realize how hard it is to control someone else's body when you don't have any under hooks. There is no way to grip around their arms, no arm or shoulder attacks, and no threat of being repeatedly attacked. Easy to get bucked off the top position. Thought I'd get him with that belt loop choke.

    As a past BJJ blue belt, there is a huge difference in belt rank. A few years ago when I was training, I could toy with new students that outweighed me nearly 100 pounds. I could easily beat all the white belts, and most of the blue belts. When I rolled with a purple belt though, they defeated me easily. On the occasion I rolled with a black belt, I felt like I had no clue what I was doing. Quality BJJ black belts can tell what you are about to do almost before you decide to do it.

    For all the keyboard warriors who say Vinnie is not a "real" purple belt, I would urge you to try this drill on a much larger black belt who knows your game before saying anything. It's much harder than it looks, since there is no underhook, no overhook, no armbar, no triangle, no omo plata, etc. Basically you have chokes and leg locks, and Rener didn't give him either thanks to his positioning and strong bridge.

  • @MrAmericanGringo

    @toyhutnm although the arm is a neccesity it can be applied without it. If you really trained GJJ/BJJ you would know that. They always do it with the arm in cause its the right way.

    Even though the purple belt has an advantage it is very difficult for him to put gracie in a triangle or armbar because of the way his arms are tied, he has to do a collar choke, front choke, guillotine, or a leg or ankle lock but at the same time gracie is simply stuck with a triangle and thats pretty much it

    Ryron and Rener Gracie are undoubtedly two of the best BJJ instructors, as well as grapplers, on the planet. So it sometimes baffles me that no world champions or even a great grappler has come out of their academy. I know self-defense is their niche, but they still roll and use sport moves. So are they holding back like their Grandfather did, or are they really not as good (at teaching) as everyone believes?

  • @Athinira

    @Athinira

    10 жыл бұрын

    They obviously specialize a lot in the psychology of self defense, and that's a big part of their training. That psychology is great for self-defense and teaching people who are weak, scared and suffer from low self-esteem, but not necessarily the psychology you should be using to teach a 'baller', meaning someone who is a genius, has high self-esteem and are pushing the limits of physical conditioning. So, you said it yourself: self-defense is their niche :)
