Ayds diet candies were around well before the AIDS epidemic happened in the 1980s (Ayds were first sold in the late '30s/early '40s, AIDS was first clinically reported in 1981). In fact, it was the decision to stubbornly stick with the name because they had it first that are the reason they're not around anymore. Doesn't make it any less funny in hindsight, though.

Ah...Fugu Fish..literally have to spend at least 2-3 YEARS learning under a master chef before you're even allowed to TRY to work with that..cause if you don't do it JUUUUST right..the customer dies. The trick about the Fugu fish is that the poison has actually seeped into the fish over the course of it's life that the meat has very very very very small amounts of it in even after the gland is removed..that way you get a light tingle and numb sensation in the mouth without actually dying from it.

I like how people realize the fish they're eating is poisonous and rather than just avoiding it and eating one of the many other foods in the world that aren't poisonous, they go out of their way to figure out ways to remove the poison from this one specific fish because I guess they just love it too much.

Pretty sure scientists have figured out that the pufferfish gets the toxins from its environment, and that there’s been attempts to raise pufferfish in such a way that it’s not poisonous.
