@MNightTomalan10 жыл бұрын
96kg isn't lightweight, but it's not exactly in the same league as North, Tuilagi or Savea either. For such a moderately sized player he's incredibly strong, and with bags of pace. I don't know which clip is my favourite; the tackle on White or the bump on O'Connor...

Izzy Hayes How do you know? As far as I'm aware they've never played against each other. Did you watch the first NZ/Eng test the other day? Manu was making serious metres with each carry, usually with 2 or 3 AB defenders hanging off him, I'm pretty sure he got MotM as well. He also shrugged off the 120kg Bastareaud as if he was a girl scout last year, TWICE in one match. Saying he's got nothing on Ranger is stupid. I'd say Ranger is better at bumping people off, but no other back in world rugby is as good as Tuilagi is at running with defenders still hanging off him. He's like an Indian locomotive in that regard.
@MNightTomalan
10 жыл бұрын
Izzy Hayes It matters because it shows that Manu is far from a player that "has nothing on Ranger". He makes metres that no other back can make. As strong as Ranger is at discarding would-be tacklers, he's not as good at staying on his feet with tacklers still holding onto him.
@MNightTomalan
10 жыл бұрын
Izzy Hayes Are you interested in having a mature discussion or are you just here to offload opinionated, condescending and highly subjective statements? Like I've said before, Manu may not have the best pace, sidestep or fend (or in Rene's case; the best "don't argue") but no other back in world rugby makes Bastareaud look like a mere inconvenience. Manu made the most metres of any player at Eden park, and that was whilst running straight into the heavy traffic that is the All Black's tightly guarded midfield. I'm not trying to say that Manu is the best player in the world, or even the best midfielder. I'm just saying that discarding him as " nothing compared to Rene" is an incredibly ill informed observation.

He is a text-book breaker. Very few left in the game due to tighter regulations and the fact rugby players want to extend their useful playing years. He plays with an almost zero-phux given attitude which for me as a player/ex player is the very thing you do not want to be up against. Players like Ranger are sorely missed by the older generation of players. Of all the All Blacks ever, he would be in the top five of 'Rugby players I hope I never have to stop at pace, on form and within 10 meters of the try line'. As for the issue of size, do you think those players he has just folded in half care whether he is under or over 100kg? Force = Mass x Acceleration. His technique in either bumping players off, fending them, or folding them is also exemplary. His nose for the line is as good as anyone's. The comparison with the Tuilagi's is interesting, but to be fair to all of them, they are all devastating. That list is getting smaller as we are developing wingers to have a broader spectrum of skills, unfortunately this means players like Lomu, Savea etc are becoming rarer as we desire a great winger to become less of a one dimensional speeding battering ram, and more of an all round winger in the mould of, Wilson, Mils, Nehe, with aerial skills, kicking skills and a utility advantage. I don't think Ranger was managed well, like a few other talented players we have lost, having fans scratch their head and ask wtf happened there?

He’s a centre, you think he should run from the centres towards the big boys up the middle just to prove a point? That’s stupid and he’d never make any teams if he tried to do that because its selfish playing, would you say the same about Lomu or Savea? They run it straight to the smaller ones and they’re both heavier than ranger

He’s a centre, you think he should run from the centres towards the big boys up the middle just to prove a point? That’s stupid and he’d never make any teams if he tried to do that because its selfish playing, would you say the same about Lomu or Savea? They run it straight to the smaller ones and they’re both heavier than ranger
the man to much lol

Not true, every tackle in these clips were legal. Only illegal if you tackle them from the shoulder-up
Potentially the worst song I've ever heard.
