My first car and a real treasure. Never let me down.

The best car ever made. More practical than a Mini or a Beetle and with adequate power unlike a 2CV. Why yes, I am prepared to die on this hill...

This drive revived memories of old. This was the first car i drove at the age of 8. It was so thrilling. But it's only in the years which follow that you get to appreciate certain experiences and possessions! Thanks for the reminder!

I was going to write something similar learned to drive at the age of 8 but I thought nobody will beleive me!!! It was so easy to drive this car, easier than a bike. My granpa owned the same model as this one except the handbrake was on the front wheels, left from the steering wheel :) great memories!!

Love the video. I have a 1986 GTL in red, same engine and dashboard, and I love it. Very lively little car with great steering rack and handling, front disc brakes, she starts on the button unless standing too long. Perfect for where I live in the French countryside.

There’s something so charming about these old fashioned Motor-Cars, especially the fact that this one in particular has only 4 gears rather than 5

Cette Renault 4 est magnifique. J'aime bien cette voiture fiable, simple, pratique aussi avec ses 4 portières et son accès facile au compartiment bagages. C'est avec une 4L que j'ai commencé mon parcours d'automobiliste, il y a longtemps. Avec cette petite voiture, on pouvait traverser la France en famille, en empruntant les nationales. Je retrouve aujourd'hui cette philosophie chez Dacia, et les chiffres de vente de cette marque montrent que ce type de voitures ont encore une place, à côté des modèles ultra connectés qui sortent, ou vont sortir prochainement.

Oui. Je suis d’accord avec ça! Il y a une vidéo ici d’une interpretation moderne qui, errrr, capteurs (?) l’ame d’originale. Je pense que ça vendrait beaucoup. Conduits simplistique! Hopefully that says “Yes. I agree with this. There’s a video on here that capteurs the soul of the original. I think it would sell. Simple motoring!.” My brain reads French reasonably well but as I’ve rarely had the opportunity to practise writing or speaking it, I can’t be sure I’m saying the right things!

Hola desde Comayagua Honduras y aprendí en un 4 y el 5 pero aquí ay muchas cuestan muy empinadas y pocos repuesto para esos maravillosos vehiculos

In this car, the horn was mounted on one of the sticks on the sides instead of centre of the steering wheel. Loved the click-clack of the signals. Used to learn how to drive on a 1974 model in 1998. It survived until 2003. Missing those days.

When I was little, a friend’s mum has an R5 with a dash mounted gear lever. It was mesmerising! My dad once had the idea of buying a 2CV. My folks liked the idea of Beetles and 2CVs but never actually went for it and we had a Chrysler and then a Micra instead. Years later, they told me they tried an early Tipo. I wish they’d gone for that!

Cool ride! My parents had a Renault 4 in the 90s and I hated that car. LOL Now I'm so glad when I see one on the road. I would take it for a road trip rather than any modern car. Cheers!

A neighbor had one of these. You could literally unlock it and start it with a nail clipper knife 😂😂 It disappeared one morning and whoever took it returned it next day with more gas on 😂 😂 😂

They got around 50bhp out of the 1100 Cleon engine when it was in the early Clios - would likely feel really lively in something this light.

I'm fitting weber carburettor and intake manifold from renault 5 automatic, and bigger exhaust I'm expecting between 45 and 50 hp.

Es más en una ocasión tuve un accidente con el 4 el hule de la cremallera se dañó y el brazo callo sobre la tubería de los frenos justo en el saque de de la pulsera y en cada Jiro quebraba el tubo asta romperse y adiós freno lo detuve en una roca

2023 soll ein E-Modell auf den Markt kommen, dessen Design stark an den "alten" R4 angelehnt ist. Ein Umbau des Originals ist mit Erhalt des Originalgetriebes problemlos möglich. Ich bin schon kräftig am Sparen! Hatte 2 R4 Fourgounette, die ich heute noch sehr vermisse.
