Renault Megane 2016 is slightly bigger than VW Golf or Toyota Auris, but slightly smaller than Opel Astra. It’s about the size of Ford Focus. Did I mention this is probably the best looking new compact hatchback in 2016? Fourth generation Renault Megane looks massive, makes you think of how solid and safe the Megane must be. Which finds reflection in Euro NCAP test results. The Megane scored 5 stars, so it’s as safe as it gets. An important factor in safety scores these days are driver aids. In 2016 Renault Megane we get things like road sign recognition, lane keeping assist or autonomous emergency braking. This Megane is the Bose Edition, which will massage my back, while I listen to music. Renault Megane Bose Edition comes with R-Link 2 infotainment with a 7-inch display as standard, but this car has the upgraded 8.7 inch infotainment screen.

    I must say I disagree with a lot of whats said in this video. I have the GT ver. myself and one of the reasons I bought it is the excellent space and height on the back seat. My son who is about 1,89cm sits comfortable in the back behind the passengers seat which is one of the few cars this size that can be said. And yes its a big advantage with the large headrests since they are actually usefull to rest on driving long tours which is more than can be said about a lot of other cars where i honestly dont know why they bothered putting any in cause they are often useless and uncomfortable. They Can be put down to fold the seats if you dont pull the front seats all the way back but how often do you do this anyway. I also dont know how you reach the trunk space of 330 l. In mine there is a spare tire and still its 380l to the hatch. All cars have larger or minor disadvantages but after driving the New civic, the new Mazda 3, the guilietta, The Astra Gtc and more I still find this the best hot hatch (GT) in its price range when all is compared. I dont see any other Hot Hatch with this pricetag, space, design (is a matter of taste), equipment, performance, comfort and practicality around as the GT. Yes the Back bumper is to wide, the driving programs personal adjustments are a gimmick and very little can be adjustet besides whats already there, nothing advanced there at all which is a shame, but there are many good details and things seems thought through and the car is comfortable and really fun to drive (GT) and the car really has two sides with the programs but is still economical to drive given its a 205 hp engine. Youll never lack any equipment by my standards and best of all its all included ! so it wont burn a hole in your pocket like with certain other manufactures.. I can only say go for it !

    Always love to watch your reviews. On top of the relevant info about the cars, you have an excellent sense of humor. Good job! I am a bit intrigued by the Megane GT, but the tech features/touchscreen appear too overwhelming for me + the massive paddle shifters seem to obstruct the operation of the stalks + radio controls. Well well, guess I'll have to give it a try.

    Hi Marek! I just stumbled upon your channel and I gotta admit you got me ! Your reviews are really entertaining and informative, though you can be quite harsh in your verdicts and you seem to have a beef with French cars haha. However, I'm planning to buy one of these Meganes, respectively the one you testet above. I did a trial run just 2 days ago and I was really amazed. I've been driving a Fiat Bravo for the last 4 years and I loved that car, but it's time for new one. Also test drove the Golf (110hp) and the Mazda 3 and both cars were pretty decent and relaxing to drive. It was just that when entering the Megane and igniting the engine there was this 'that's it' in my guts... That spark was just missing in the other 2 . Can't tell why. However, keep up the good work and don't lose your humour!

    +Philipp Gamweger Thanks :-) I suppose I like a car to adapt to my needs, not the other way around. Most French cars are the latter. With notable exceptions, like the new Peugeot 3008. In the end my opinion is just something to help clients make up their mind. As long as you feel this is the car for you that's all that matters.

  • @philu2949

    @philu2949

    True that! :) I was also considering the 3008 (though it's a different price-class) as an option - until I realized there is no 4WD available and I don't catch the point of getting an SUV/Crossover without that feature. Quashqai was an option too, but I figured the engine is quite noisy in the 130dci 4WD - at least as I perceived it.The Kadjar seems to be a bit cheap from the inside, making rattling noises on bumpy roads as far as I remember the test drive. Any SUV from the Volkswagen Group is out of reach in terms of affordability (except for maybe the Ateca) .... anyway, I decided to stay in the compact class for another couple years... let's see what the future brings. Is there any chance you might tell what car (private) you are driving at the moment?

    I'd say as a new car it's not the best choice, but get one that's old a year or two with low mileage and since it's Renault, price will drop and you'll get a very modern looking and comfortable car at a reasonable price. Also 1.5dci 110hp is the one to go; tried it 1st hand against Golf 1.6tdi. Golf is faster 0-100, but that difference happened from about 70 to 100km/h. In return 1.5 engine is well known, polished, didn't have turbo lag, VERY economical and with a 6 speed gearbox will satisfy everyone's needs unless you want a really fast car. For that you're going into the hot-hatch category anyways.

    Hi Marek, Quite enjoy your reviews. Just for your information in the compact car segment here in Australia the Ford Focus which I just bought comes in three levels....Trend / Sport / Titanium excluding the RS and ST. Unlike Europe ( I think) all these come with only one engine ...the 1.5ltr ecoboost and a standard 6 speed torque converter gearbox. I looked at the Megane VW Golf and Mazda 3 but I find the Focus is the best in this class............cheers

    +blackcarmafia Golf is basically the same car every year, when you walk down the streets: "oh a golf, look another golf and another one... and another one.." and cost more than the new megane that instead offers a freshly new design, very good engine and now also a premium-like interior. Concerning the Focus, here in italy i have not seen many of them but i don't really like interior and exterior. So what I'm saying is that of course this car probably won't become the best selling in Europe like the Golf but definitely, seeing what else is on the market, it's a really good alternative to the class leader.

    Great job, Marek. I like your descriptions of different cars. They are... practical in all ways, and I guess some dealers are started to hate you already. )) From myself, it is a shameful matter, but my Touareg GP 2008 has the similar problem with a boot door -- the water flows from the top, where the hinges are, when you open it in the rain, or with melting snow on the roof. You got a Niagara falls on your bags. What a fail. All other issues are reasonable for a french car. It is still for a plain and not very much practical consumers.

    Spot on Marek. I have 1.2 TCe and dumping is horrible. Noise over larger bumps is almost unbearable. Whole car rattles after only 78k km. And my even jerks when accelerating and decelerating. Peugeot is much better brand. Even Citroen. This is my first Renault and also the last.

    Just had guests staying here with an estate version of this car. I noticed that when the doors were open water from the roof dripped into the car. There does not seem to be anything to stop this. I know that gutters are so 1980's, but they should have overcome water dripping into a car by now. RE the back headrests. Do they not come our? I had a Mk1 Megane, pre-facelift, and I had to remove the rear headrests to be able to fold the seats completely. Just stored them in the rear footwell.

  • @MarekDrives

    @MarekDrives

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Ribeirasacra Yes, they come out completely. In this case it's a matter of moving the seat forward. Unless you're tall, then removing headrests seems like the only option. I remember I had to do the same in a 306 I used to own. BTW, Renault and rain water seems to be a thing. In the 2014 Megane Bose with a sliding panoramic roof water collected in the slot around the glass. There was so much of it that when I took a turn, side window was all covered in water, as if someone threw a bucket of water at it.

You are right about narrow rear window and big headrest but There is really great rear camera and it is very useful while back maneuver. My car has edc and i tested also edc. Edc and 1.5 dci diesel works good together. Test car was used 8000 km and İ really did not hear diesel Engine sound inside. it was silent and i also İ did not hear much road sound and Wind sound. And 8.7 inch screen is problem when control air condition system İ did not like it as well so i preferred smaller screen which is 7 inch and so All air condition controls outside of screen. Engine sound is not change much in sport mode but steering wheels gets hard and edc change gear at higher cycle nearly 4500 and 5000. I will inform about car while i am using :)

Just i wrote about sport mode, automatic gearbox changing gear nearly 3000 cycle and in eco mode nearly 2100. In sport mode you can feel the road difference because steering wheel gets harder and car getting much more fun. In comfort and eco mode steering wheel is much comfortable. Handling of car is not best, it has over average handling. Edc reacts good when you push gas pedal. And until 150 km hour speed wind sound really not disturbing

    I can't say. I drove the Civic 2 years ago. I don't remember, I don't take measurements. And measurements do not necessarily reflect the perception of cabin noise. Add different types of tarmac, different weather condition, different tyres. It's hard to say.

  • @keepwalking6041

    @keepwalking6041

    tyre noise and such is problem of noise traveling through metal-vibrations, most expensive cars block this almost completely,problem is u do this by increasing more weight, use more dense steel alloys to absorb the vibrations,so for this normal cars for normal ppl its hard to get good fuel consumption(car weighs less) while reducing noise in cabin(increasing weight thus increasing fuel consumption).. i think Astra, Golf are much more quieter, and Toyota, Hyundai, Mazda.. but Megane especially diesel has exceptional low fuel consumption from what i see..

    What about sqeaks and rattles in in this new generation of Megane? This is unfottunally the biggest disadvantage of former generation (Meg 3), but it is very, very comfortable car and excellent long drive cruiser. If we are talking about keyless, or hands free card, in my opinion, it is the best system on the market. For your information, you should go around the car from the back, and there will be no problem with locking.. New Meg 4 grandtour is just great, and possible my next car. 1.5 dci 110 is the best diesel engine in its class. Otherwise great review, thanks.

    My parents have Megan I for more than 20 years and still performs well. I have Megane II ( 1,9 dci ) which has 15 years and if the fender apron does not starts to be rusty I would not think about a new one ( has got 190 000 km - fully reliable - If it is produced these days I would buy it again - for 14 years I did not touched anything ) . My brother has Megane III and fully satisfied ............. and because I can not buy Megane II again, this week I bought Megane IV Limited TCe 130. Very nice and satisfied I must raise the hat in front of the designer who designed the Megane II and IV .....................

    Difference in engine sound (between Sport and Comfort) is noticeable when doing hard accelerations in first 3 gears. I don't see the logic behind testing it while maintaining the same speed. :)

  • @MarekDrives

    @MarekDrives

    7 жыл бұрын

    There is (supposed to be) a slight difference in sound as well. Usually throttle response is also sharper. When holding gas pedal in the same position you can usually feel the car starts to accelerate or decelerate between different modes.

  • @muhamedkarabeg1207

    I was just referring to the moment when you said: "No, i can't hear any difference ...". (5:03 in the video, also 6:41) I agree that steering input and throttle response can be felt immediately upon changing the driving mode, but difference in the engine sound can be heard the most when applying full throttle in 2nd or 3rd gear (Sport mode makes a kind of deep "gurgling" noise compared to Comfort).

    I had a Megane 2 as a hire car, if I took the wheels off my mountain bike, I could fit it in the boot with my back pack for a weeks holiday and leave the shelf in place so no one could see their was luggage in the car, I liked the look of that car too and it was not bad to drive compared to a Mk 4 Golf either.

    how is this a review? it's nothing but a rant on a car you personally dislike, that's easy to see. sure, it's got its weeknesses, especially the one with water dripping inside the trunk when the hatch is opened. but other than that, this car does by no means deserve the hate you hold against it... and saying the possibilities of the settings menu is "over the top" is just ridiculous. of course you can't expect to understand every aspect of it within one hour of test driving, but when using it regularly, this just comes natural. obviously you don't like having options... and you don't like this car...

    He didn't mention that IV gen. Megane has the best and most powerful 1.6 l diesel in it's class, which has been proven in much larger cars like Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail, etc. It's also the most economical. What about engine noise? It's also the quietest in the cabin among it's rivals. It's also among the best when it comes to ride comfort and handling. The conclusion is, he somehow forgot to mention it's key strengths.

    I'm no audiophile, so I can't tell you if high/low/whatever tones sound properly, but let me put it this way: if you want good factory installed car audio, you buy a premium car, and pay for things like Harman Kardon, Burmester, B&O, Mark Levinson, etc. Bose makes great stuff for the home, but in cars they put shit. I have an MX-5 with Bose stereo, and it's just a car stereo. It's the same thing here. Perhaps you have a couple more speakers, than on a standard car.
