Important tip for all vehicles with this type of spare wheel winch (Renault, Peugeot Citroen...). Always keep the cable under light tension. So the steel cable has no chance to wrap incorrectly due to lack of tension. This simply mean that when unwinding to get your spare wheel. Pull the wheel out from under the vehicle and keep the system with some tension. You'll have to get the wheel out anyway! ;-) When putting it back in place, same thing, engage it to the wheel still away from the car and let the cable pull the assembly into place. BTW this is valid for the use of ANY winch system! With this said, it's one of the best spare wheel access systems ever. You don't have to kneel or get dirty ever. ;-)

Hi, I had to remove my spare wheel and wind the cable up without spare while getting it repaired? Now it wont wind down, any tips? Probably because there was insufficient tension. Doh!

We had the same problem and after loosening everything with a spray of WD40, one of us had to lie on the floor pulling the clamp while the other turned the crank anticlockwise to lift the wheel back up
