Berbick was a good underrated and awkward fighter. Later beat a good quality heavyweight in Pinklon Thomas for the WBC Tittle in Early 86.

This is so good to see! I remember when Mr.Williams used to train him in Waukegan, Illinois at the YMCA. My mom was a secretary there. Me and my sister would get in the ring when he was done training and act like we were boxing. Great times in the 70s. Mr. Snipes was/is always going to be one of my favorite boxers.

Berbick was a classic trash talker, and just like Tyson, he wanted to knock Berbick's head off for the way he beat Ali, who was Snipes idol. He almost did it early. But a great fight. Both guys showed a lot of toughness. At 33:09 you can see a big scar on Snipes left forearm. This happened after the Holmes fight, when during a brief melee, Snipes cornerman's scissors accidentally slashed his arm, cutting through an artery, a tendon, and severing deep into muscle, requiring 40 stitches. This took months to heal, and Snipes later said it never fully healed. His losing a few fights around this fight with Berbick had to factor into that. Great guy btw. My understanding is he's worked soup kitchens in NYC helping people, and was near ground zero at 9/11 and helped people there as well. Larry Holmes has said nice things about Renoldo in recent years.

Mr. Snipes is ok, He is doing good, I know he has some eyesight issues. I just saw him Monday October 11, and Tuesday October 12, 2021 at my Grandfather’s wake and funeral in the Bronx. He is a great guy and was a great friend of my grandfather and our family.

@@SammyVideoPlex Snipes is good people. He’s been a friend of my grandparents and mom for a very long time. He was at my grandfather’s wake, church service and marched in the funeral procession behind the hearse. Great guy. Quite, and soft spoken. He still loves his cigars, good food and stories about the old days.

Berbick had defeated 3 Champions and had just defeated Thomas who many thought was the best heavyweight in the world .He also ended Holmes eight fight knockout run .Which included Cooney Shavers and Weavers abd his loss to Snipes was razor thin and should have been a draw .He completely dominated Page and Tate .He got knockout when he was green .There should be no doudt he was one of the best in his prime 1980 to 1987

Berbick was never able to "sting“. All his blows had been quite slow always. No jabs at all. A good jab is the most important hit a boxer has to use.

Belburg Absolutely! I would have like to seen him and Larry Holmes get together again when both were champs. Of course, I wanted to see Holmes tangle with a lot of guys he avoided: Greg Page, Michael Dokes, and Pinklon Thomas are at the top of the list. I wouldn’t have minded seeing Weaver and Cooney lock up before Cooney fought Holmes. For the most part, though, most of the contenders fought each other back then and titles changed hands. Critics like to say it was a sign of a weak division, but there were actually some really good fights and strong contenders...like THIS one. Berbick-Page was good. Thomas-Coetzee was good. David Bey and Page was good.

@@Odawg96 Me too! I think that's what takes away from Larry's legacy a little bit. I wanted to see those fights too, especially Holmes-Page, and Holmes-Thomas. Gerry truthfully should have fought Mike, he had a strong chance of winning though it wasn't given. This was a good fight, and I feel bad, in the sense that Renaldo could have won a belt in the right scenario. Loved Thomas-Coetzee myself.
