The thing is, Dotta did his best diss, Ren just did enough to beat him, didn't even bother with a beat but also showed him love and pushed a message. If Ren truly wanted to just go for the throat it would be game over.

All you gotta say is, Ren schooled and embarrassed Dotta but touted him and wished him well in a rap that was acapella and quickly put together. The word play and flow of Ren without any background beat shows his true talent to put something together without it being so heavily produced. It's Ren's genius and ability to take on ANY form of Rap that brings folks in. Including me.

I'm a huge Ren fan. One of the only videos I've ever posted is a 2 hour analysis of Hi Ren. But while Dotta can't touch Ren's cleverness and layered meanings and generally gets out styled here, Ren is prone to really weak bars & flow when he hasn't put time into it. Some parts feel like the hyper-basic flows of the 80s. Some rhymes are straight up throwaway lines that all you can do is gloss over. That's okay. Battle rapping isn't really meant to be a pristine, unassailable piece of art. But Dotta lays solid bar after solid bar over a good beat and it seems disingenuous to claim that Ren kicked his ass. Maybe he edged out a victory by traditional standards, but I think that's a matter of taste & opinion. The real victory here was engaging in good faith, then completely subverting expectations (again!) to stay on-message, re-iterating the call for unity.

He ended up killing him with kindness. Also on the lack of a beat, Dotta challenged him to rap without any instruments so I guess this was Ren’s response to that, plus you have to remember that Ren isn’t at home or at his studio, he is in a foreign country for months on end having intensive therapy, plus it’s Ren, rap battles ain’t his forte, he was out of his comfort zone so with that in mind I think he did a good job, he held his own, like with anything, with more practice at it he would be more polished, battling is different to straight rapping, really considering battling is Dotta’s thing, he should have won easy and he didn’t so that says more about Dotta than it does about Ren. If Ren had the experience Dotta has, he would have absolutely Oppenheimer’d him and that’s the reality of the situation. Ren’s a lover not a hater at the end of the day, he would rather carry someone up the mountain with him than dig a grave for them at the foot of the mountain and push them off the mountain into that grave

@@izzyboot9408 if you think this was Ren being Ren then you don’t know Ren This is like a 4 out of 10 on the Ren scale, this was not Ren doing what Ren does best and that’s just keeping it real, anybody being objective would admit that, anyone who knows Ren’s ability can see this was sub par for Ren and it’s because he was 100% out of his comfort zone, that was very clear to see and it showed massively. I was just being honest in my assessment, I wasn’t going to blow smoke up his you know what just because it’s Ren, that would have been pointless and it serves nobody well to blow smoke up someone’s you know what. He could have miles better and for all the reasons I gave, they all played a part to one degree or another and I guarantee Ren would be the first to hold his hands up and admit it. Like I said, rap battles and straight rapping are very different disciplines, just because someone is good at swimming backstroke, doesn’t mean they are going to be as good doing the butterfly yet they are both just swimming at the end of the day. I 100% stand by that he did a good job considering and that he would be more polished with experience, that he was clearly out of his comfort zone, you can’t say he wasn’t, you’re either being disingenuous or you just don’t know Ren if you trying to claim he wasn’t out of his comfort zone

Right now, Ren is going through the toughest, most critical part of the treatment he's undergoing in Calgary, Canada. Putting a beat together is the most time-consuming stage of this kind of track, and Ren simply doesn't have much creative time on his hands right now. This video - entertaining and effective though it is - was probably done on his own with an SLR camera in the basement car park in his Calgary apartment block. I too would like to have heard a beat on this - Ren's backing tracks are always amazing - but cut the guy some slack. He's earned it.

If someone else would have said similar things but didn't have the receipts that he is genuine, it wouldn't be effective at all. But here it is, because it is him. Grasp the opportunity". Everyone kinda won in the Dotta vs Ren battle. Totally unexpected, but definitely Ren. Enjoyed it all tbh. Have you checked out Dotta's subscribers? He has gone from 900 to 1600 at the time of writing, me one of them. For me he is nowhere near the level of either Knox or Ren, but he has an opportunity here. I am also convinced that Knox and Ren coordinated their stuff. When Ren switches, that is very similar to Knox's in patiently waiting. If Dotta is smart, he would work on a well produced track now to show who he wants to be apart from dissing and ride the wave. I really enjoyed your reaction, as always.

Battle rap to me started as east vs. west, gang vs. gang, personal beef. It has turned into marketing oneself aka: Small vs. Big,. If we followed Ren's vision, 90% of diss battles would disappear and more collabs would take place. This is a double-edged sword, battles hone skills, collabs exalt messages. What is RAP? It is both in my opinion, but I believe we would have a more cohesive society if we promoted good messages and exposed truth, than tearing each other down.

If you really want to know HipHop and rap have their real musical roots farther back into the Persian empire where nobles would send the best lyricists to battle each other for bragging rights and tribute (money). Deep dive into musicology and a whole new world will open up.

Hip Hop was never about that. It really was a way to keep violence out of communities. If other things happened it was on a personal level. The rap battle scene is not at all fueled by hatred but for the love of hip hop.

You got to give him props. He went after someone that he knows he's going to get people looking at his stuff. But Ren I feel like is the wrong guy to go after because he's going to kill you with kindness and then just kill you with bars in his own artistic way.

Also for me as simple as it was video wise, Ren performed infront of a camera. No beat, just him. I good beat can in some ways make a flow easier, but this is banter for Ren, while he is going through his medical things a quick set up camera and do a diss, pick a brother up dust them down, hope they enjoyed the sport see you session. That for me is impressive, while Dotta had time to prepare there was no time constraint on his love letter (sorry I meant diss). It really doesn't matter a good fun banter back and forth. I appreciate your reactions.

Was good to see, think he could of left it there, but think he did another diss on Knox, and I thought coulda and shoulda left it at that, but Dotta keeps race out of it, got enough divide in the world. Most fans respect the roots of hip hop culture, no matter what colour you are. Ren clearly does, it shines in everything he writes thats hip hop.

A little knowledge drop on amazing Grace playing on the bagpipes.. it's a traditional Scottish funeral song. He opened with it acknowledging Dotta's funeral.. and then killed him a second time with kindness and closed out with a 2nd funeral play. That's dope squared son!

I think you had a good reaction. I'm absolutely biased and have a thing for the type of wordplay Ren dishes, so I'm massively on board for his side. But, Kingdom Come was leagues above Crown. If Dotta's willing to put in the work, he can make a name for himself instead of trying to cheat code off the work of those ahead of him in the game. But he's gotta actually put in the effort and not play the race card and act like that's the reason other people are hitting and he isn't.

We all won for sure. Dotta should go to the next Hater’s ball and I appreciate him bringing that malice. But comparing them is pointless. Ren is a whole other thing onto himself. He kept it fun, he brought his tricks, he spokenworded him which isn’t even a thing. Like, who does that? I was joking last week that I couldn’t wait for him to drop an impromptu sonnet in the middle of his diss, and it turned out that that was basically his his whole song. That’s a dude that knows who he is as an artist and doesn’t compromise that. And then that Olive branch at the end bringing tears to all the sensitive Ren fans like me because once again, he has balanced dark and light, and his approach to music is a metaphor that gives everybody freaking hope. That’s all I got.
