I know this was not an easy one to react to, especially with a camera on you. 😢 I think he said in an interview that his heavy breath at the end signifies how he was out of breath when reached the bridge only to find that he was tool late. When he says “My skin felt counterfeit, silicone, rubber…” It makes me think of numbness caused by nerve damage, when Lyme’s disease ravaged his body unchecked for years.. Thanks for showcasing this song. It is really an incredible piece of art… 💔❤️‍🩹❤️

Fibonacci sequences show up in nature and give order to the chaos of that system, and his use of double Dutch is the same as yours. So he is seeing the world split between strict order and complete nonsense. He wrote the first part of this song about his own thoughts of ending it (but he never made that decision in part because of Joe). During an interview with Knox Hill, he spoke about Joe for the first time in years. This song was already in final production, but Ren felt he needed to add something about Joe to complete the song, so he wrote the last part and filmed himself playing it to send off to get it added to the video. That's why the second part is so different. A few weeks/months later, he used that section as the opening to For Joe (which he also used his first tribute to Joe - "Freckled Angels" as the end of For Joe).

These beautiful songs seemed to help Ren's own process of healing He was even able to make his tribute to Callum who was lost 6 months after Joe and he said he had not been able to mourn all these years since.

It’s a gut punch. It hurts so much to lose someone you love and where if only you could have run faster, or seen the warning sign you might have saved them. The beauty of showing this grief in such a raw way here is that is leaves you in no doubt about the impact of Suic!de on those around you - knowing the pain of Joe’s loss helped keep Ren from going ahead with it. And he’s sharing that very personal lesson with the world.

First thing I am going to say is, you did a great reaction to this song, Guy. 🙏❤️ Some of my thoughts about this song are as follows. The first part is see as Ren describing his inner struggle with thoughts of ending it, how he feels like he does not fit in, how he struggle with even the most basic things in life (due to his sickness but also because he is different from the norm) and how he is fighting to hold on to hope and not give in to the temptation to end it. ("Dig deep when the feeling hits ya") That line always stand out to me a little extra. That he keeps going back to how some people see him "some say trubble, some say sadistic" "narsassistic kid with a split lip" makes me thing he must have felt so misunderstood. Deep down he is feels lonely and as a outsider. In The second part of the song he is trying to put in words his experiances when Joe died and his guilt that is constant for him, like you also mentioned. He is working through some of his deepest fears and sorrows and he is facing them in this song. One big step on his way to processing this loss. Its Ren being as raw with his feelings and thoughts about this loss as he can be. He show his strength in being so open and hide nothing from us. ❤ Just some of my thoughts this song gives me.

Now that I read my own comment again I see that I missed the most important word in that line I pointed out 🤦‍♀️ "dig deep, RESIST the feeling when it hits ya". Can't blame it on autocorrect this time so I will blame it on the fact that my brain has a tendency to go 100 miles an hour when I get invested in something and can sometimes miss a detail, thinking I have already shown, told or written it 😏 Feels great to be human 😅 Perfect imperfections that makes us the way we are. 🤗

You gotta do the live version it’s incredible and Genesis live is my favorite Ren video. Seriously, though if you think this one, give Joe respect you have to watch the live one playing keyboard in the background I don’t know where it is maybe like Australia backdrop is unreal.! Are you really a therapist? Your breakdowns are so deep and on point. He couldn’t get over his sickness until he found the right doctor, but he said the first step was acceptance instead of being mad at the world why me he had to accept. This is the hand I was dealt, and I have to make the best of it.. and I’m sure that you know this part but after a year he told his mother if there was no cure the following year, then he wouldn’t be around after that, apologized, but when he saw the impact that Joes suicide had on his family and mother he couldn’t go through with it. Suffered eight more years.. you hit the nail on the head when you said such a strong dude! Not many would be able to make it.

@@TherapeuticReactions well I’m glad I can give you a bit of new information. I’ve been following him about 2.5 years. He is a special human for sure. He said the first thing he had to do to get better was accepting his illness without being angry. I’m sure that wasn’t easy. Have you watched him and viktus celebrating the album hitting number one in Vegas and someone plays him a video of Harry Mack rapping about Ren while Riccochet illustrates Ren? It’s very cool to see him so surprised and happy! When you paused your other video and said check out his accent when he talks. Ironically I was thinking the same thing at that time about your voice. I can’t place the accent. I am from NYC so I’m sure I’ve heard it before but I keep watching thinkin ehere is thst cool accent from? Anyways thanks for the response and I’m sure you’re an amazing therapist. It’s kind of obvious to me. World needs more people like you and Ren. I’m glad to be part of your reaction journey.

Fibonacci sequence as my favorite band. TOOL sings about is a pattern that creates a spiral a specific pattern of numbers that can be proven.. double Dutch has no specific pattern and is random. Man that ending is so rough. I’d probably seen this 20 times. I cannot make it through that part without getting choked up. Unfortunately similarly I lost my two best friends to suicide so it’s a shitty place to be and it’s hard not to blame yourself even though deep down, there’s nothing you really could’ve done..

Hello Guy! I wish you spoke my language and we didn't need the translator's crutch, I wish you had been the companion who taught me to walk years ago among my worst moments years ago, many years ago... I found psychiatrists who buried me in pills; I found psychologists who They wanted to adapt their studies to my circumstances, and even...apply to me the fashionable therapy of which they were faithful lovers. Many, many years have passed and the problems have become chronic and increased; but the funny thing about this is that I am fine although I live with a sick mind and body. I celebrate life every day and take advantage of a gap of energy to sneak inside, even if it's just minutes. I want to tell you that you have made a truly intelligent analysis, at the same time empathetic and moving. That in my opinion defines a professional. Thank you for your work and of course I subscribe. More Ren please!!!!
