That japanese female singer sample is from an anime called Samurai Champloo that was released in 2004. It a cult classic and a very highly rated show. The song plays in the outro of the show and is called - Samurai Champloo - Shiki No Uta and it's also a classic among the anime music fans. Ren has amazing taste not just in music, but in anime, film and literature as well.

Welcome to the mind of an independent, solo music producer. I don't have 1000 songs in progress, but as solo producers we have tens, or hundreds of songs in various states of progress. And in general we'll work on a song for a few minutes, hours or a day. A song will take us months to complete, but we aren't working on that song alone for a month, we're constantly working on various songs at the same time. Finally, as a last peek inside the mind of a producer, we never "finish" a song. We abandon them. We basically reach a point where we say "Ok, this is it. I'm not working on this anymore" because we could work on a single song literally forever. We will never perfect it because we will always have a new idea for the song. But at some point we have to let it go.

@@SR1Records your statement on never finishing a song, but abandoning it, and having to tell yourself I'm not working on this anynore... that's how I have to treat all my art work. For me a drawing/ painting/ creative project is never finished. But I've realised that "perfection" actually detracts from some pieces. I've had a few paintings I've added to over a period of years, in an effort to reach perfect photorealism. Looking at photos of different stages, I'm often happier with "halfway" vs "almost finished." Too polished feels sterile, and often loses the spark that makes a piece shine. It's through the mistake of trying to completely finish pieces that I've learned imperfection is worth striving for in any creative pursuit. Hope this makes sense 😅

@@somuchpepper I also just looked up the song credits for Power on Spotify and it lists Freckled Angels as opposed to The Other Songs, so I wonder if that played a role in power being left off at least 🤔

I absolutely love this song ❤️ I think Ren said that it was between Wicked Ways, this and another super fast rap flexing track, but that in the flow of the album Wicked Ways fitted better than this. I can literally have this song on constant repeat and never get bored. It's something about the rhythm and the cadence of it that just sits perfectly for me even though the lyrics are heavy

When people ask why this didn’t make it onto the album my first thought is always “what about Power?”. Who doesn’t love that track?! And I think it could have been the perfect transition between some of the very dark songs and the silly songs as it explains how music became his power to get through it all. According to Ren he had to stop at some point and 18 tracks is already a lot for an album. BUT IT’S NOT WHEN HE MAKES SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC! 😂 That’s not our fault, Ren. Just find a way to give it all to us 😂

I know Ren said he's gonna be doing a more vocal based album next, but I hope afterwards he does another Hip hop album. I really love the Sick boi album, and, atm, especially his later Hip Hop tunes (Seven Sins, Wicked ways, This one, etc..), it would be awesome to hear another album full of Hip hop tunes from him.

I love this track. It’s definitely one of my favourites because it’s so raw; capturing that low minute walking in the rain in Brighton. My daughter loves to walk along the front in Eastbourne in the rain, she says it put you in a mood! I can just see him with his hands in his pockets water dripping off his nose contemplating his pain. The Chinese sample sounds so good with it.

I liked the lyrics he put together for Insomnia. This is a good jam.

YO! You guys! If I heard this right, Ren hit next level rad. The sample that sounds like it's backward, well I'm just saying here, but Jimi Hendrix had a song called Castles made of sand (which also is fire), and the guitar solo in that track is dubbed backwards. I can honestly say that I've listened to dozens of Ren's songs (if not all of them), including his "Trick the Fox" and "The Big Push" stuff....and if he has 50 songs, I like 46 of them. There a few that I honestly don't care for much, "Masochist" is one of them....but one of VERY few.

This is one of my favorite songs off the album as well. The flow on in is sick! Not sure why it was left off, but it did make it special for those who went in and bought the deluxe album. Ren chose Wicked Ways over this as the final track on the album. Not sure if it was just a vibe he was going for, because both are different from one another, but this literally could be a radio single. I can hear it bumping all over the world. The best is crazy, and the sample is unique and different. Ren is just a genius!
