And to add another comment, yes, Ren has suffered more than most people his age. Through parental divorce (his song Power refers to this), angst as a teenager, one of his closest friends taking his life, (Multiple songs in reference to this, Sui*ide, For Joe, Freckled Angels), then miss diagnosed Lyme disease for a decade where the medical community fed him pill after pill after pill (Hi Ren, Sic Boi, Chalk Outlines) that lead to psychosis and all his illness (Illest of our Time is another focused on this as well as many on his #1 UK Album) to his view on politics and their control (Money Game series). And so many many more songs that have meaning and introspective. He is wise beyond his years, speaking for those who can’t speak and spreading awareness to things that are now so taboo they are banned and never discussed…

His best friend, Joe committed suicide off the Menai bridge (it's in the lyrics of the song), so Ren raised money for the Lifeboat rescue that did the search. This was before Ren achieved the number 1 album in the UK, beating Rick Astley. 2023 was a big year for someone still having radical treatment in a Canadian clinic!

You hit the nail on the head about the layers to Ren triggered by his experiences in life. I think you would really appreciate watching his One Million Subscribers video. He talks about his platform and how his years of battling Lyme Disease shaped him. He also puts out a call to action and encouragement to those battling the darkness. He’s the real deal and has touched so many people with his music and message.

I know what you mean “what other music can I listen to now”. A lot of people on here like me who have been entrapped by Ren’s music for the past six months or more. I tried to come up for air and listen to other music yesterday but got Ren withdrawal symptoms very quickly 😂

The live version of this is geeat, but like you said, add a beat to it and an extra verse and it just elevates this like crazy. Ren just spits the truth in this money game series and i love it. Prepare yourself for part 3 😂😂💜💜

lol yep, Ren just casually reinvents his already-awesome tracks and gives us new mind-blowing perspective on his music. I personally love how he loves his intro to Violet's Tale so deeply, that he keeps bringing it into other songs he's written that are super meaningful to him. (hint hint, Mark... )

Ren has always had a more counter cuture headset,partly because of his hippie parents and involvement in their music style festivals as a child and young adult. He also started reading dystopian literatures as a teen with Orwell, Huxley et all. Listened to Rage Against the Machine and was influenced by the movie Zeitgeist. He recognizes that with all tbe hyper-polarization in the world today, that counter culture becomes trying to find points of mediation and communication. He sees this as his role as an artist. He has talked about it a lot in his interview with Knox Hill.

Hey Mark, FYI the title track to Ren's album, Sick Boi, is tangentially related to the Money Game series AND IT'S A CERTIFIED BANGER OF A TRACK (& video). I mean, primarily it's the companion piece to Hi Ren in the "Ren's biography" category of his catalogue, but you'll see where he positions the Money Game trilogy in his own head cannon via the autobiographical nature of the lyrics of Sick Boi. EDIT now that I've finished watching the rest of the video - YES, and THAT'S WHY LOVE MUSIC 1 is my favourite of the Love Music series - it's super tied in to the "autobiography" category of his music. it's "Ren origin story" material, and while I will fiercely stand behind his right to have pure unadulterated fun with his music (ie, some tracks of his that I *don't* enjoy, are CLEARLY important to HIM to make FOR FUN and that's SUPER IMPORTANT for a goddamn artist to do or their brain-heart-art fusion can fall apart), the stuff that I connect to is his autobiographical stuff (and socio-political commentary stuff because it usually is at least tangential to the autobiographical material). Other people love the wordplay etc of LM2/3/4, but for me LM1 is where it's at. It's autobiographical as shit, BUT it's also so clearly Ren "at play," having FUN. The splicing of the "origin story" lyrics along with "playful/have pure fun" makes my heart sing. ... but I can 100% stand behind Ren needing to go off on the LM2/3/4 train (and I can 100% stand behind fans adoring 2/3/4 over LM1). Now. Let's pretend MG3 isn't in existence yet for you to have ahead of you. I'm the Team Money Game 1 person, a minority within the Ren fanbase. Have I lost you to Team Money Game 2? 😉 And: last edit, I think... You are, like, not just "a dopamine hit" when it comes to Ren reactions; your Ren reactions are "install a port in my vein and keep the fucking dopamine on constant drip" level.

How about this! In Hi Ren, he says the line: "we've heard it all before, She Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore" which is a shout out back to this song, Money Game Part 2, as a bar making a self referential statement, AND, incorporating EVERY single nuance about the money game into a single bar in Hi Ren. And yes, The founder of what went on to become Shell Oil was the son of an antique dealer who expanded in 1833 to import and sell seashells, after which the company "Shell" took its name.
