Because Ren is using Nas' original beat, he can't put it on Spotify. Ren is not monetizing this video or Fred Again Mashup. He's doing it for the love for those artists. I listen to all of his retakes in my car, etc. with my KZread music account. It's just another music streaming platform that's free with KZread premium. The thing I respect the most is that Ren isn't afraid to show all of his sides of himself in his music even if it alienates some, and it has. He's not better or worse than any one of us. He's just a visionary in music which is a rare thing.

Well sorta, it's not that he can't put it on Spotify, it's just a pain for any artist to put a cover on Spotify, cause you have to reach out to the artist you covered and have permission or royalty payments worked out and I'm sure Ren just didn't want to make it feel all business and no love. You don't "demonetize" a single video on youtube, your channel is either monetized or it isn't, now if you get a copywrite strike on a video, all the traffic and clicks that video created to add to the months revenue no longer count. But the content creator of the channel has no ability to demonetize it, they can just do what Ren did, and I do when I use copywrite music in a video I upload, is just put in the description that this was not created for monetary purposes, meaning it was just for youtube, he's not putting the song on an album or selling it as a single. Also, who are the "some" that Ren's music has alienated, and who thinks Ren is better or worse than anyone?

The words on the sweater amounts to "sick boi", the name of his second album from last year. He got to number 1 in the UK with it and that while being in treatment in canada without any traditional promo. All independent.

Because he listens to all kinds of music from every era and genre, he likes to make music that take all those influences too. We've become so used to artists who live in a box because labels force them to try and recreate their breakthrough hit over and over. And here he is, showing that it won't ruin a career to branch out. He isn't afraid to make music that isn't for everyone, which is so important creatively I think. One of the reasons he feels so authentic.

The flow! The delivery! The performance! The one-take! The lyrics! His LYRICS! All of them out of this World, as usual! :) However, the icing on the cake is Ren's remix of the beat. The added audio is great, especially the guitar! :)

Personally because he does so many different musical genres he has encouraged me listen to music I wouldn’t have ordinarily listened to and I feel the better for that. Including the many artists he has put links to as he finds them and thinks we will also appreciate…. He certainly is not selfish. Anyways thank you man I hope you are well Take care Daz

Somehow he manages to be humble and show respect for other artists while spitting braggadocios bars 😅 Not quite sure how that’s even possible, but hey it’s Ren doing Ren things 🤣 Also unfortunately none of Ren’s retakes are available on Spotify, but he does have original rap songs that you can put on your playlist. Power, Illest of Our Time, The Hunger, Animal Flow, Genesis, and more.

Great reaction, but from one guitar teacher to another, you've barely scratched the surface as far as knowing what Ren is all about, it's a deep and varied rabbit hole indeed. Ren is those things you believe to be from his million sub speech, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have his "burn it all down, F the world" type days, or his too depressed to get out of bed days, or "I feel like being snarky and rude" days, all of which gets off gassed and vented through his music. The other thing I wanted to mention, cause I'm approaching old fart status, and a lot of these younger Ren fans don't realize it, but Ren even attempting a retake of this song takes major testicular fortitude, we're talking above expert level challenge. Nas is legendary in Hip-Hop culture, most true Hip-hop heads have him in their top5 or top3 of all time, and this song is the first single off "illmatic", Nas' 1994 debut album, and argued by many to be the best Hip-hop album ever made. So for anyone to take do a retake on a Nas beat is tricky and could go horribly wrong if you offend the culture, or have mediocre bars, especially for a white U.K. rapper. But so far I've heard nothing but praise from Hip-hop heads and that community in general. Great reaction, keep up the good work!!

@amagab2346 cool new fact I actually never knew or heard Ren say in the 9 years I have been a fan. I wrote that bc in one of his first videos of Ren he said its not something he could listen to in his car. This song he said he could so it made me smile. Where can I find where Ren said that about listening to every song before its considered done?? I would really like to check it out. I like to hear it straight from the source since so many people just say what they hear and it's completely inaccurate that's on most things in life these days. But I really would live to check it out I love learning about him.

My commute playlist is more of a wake-up, get happy vibe, so I've included Ren's "Ocean," "Power," "Illest of Our Time," "Humble," "What You Want," and others. "Losing It" is a great workout song. As you probably know by now, Ren does or can do just about everything behind a song - from producing the beat to creating the video (often a live one-take/continuous shot, often live audio, often with videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey). He's self-taught on a number of instruments and even composed the quartet in Money Game part 3. He doesn't shy away from sampling or mashing up bits of music he likes. His "covers" are rarely straightforward. His "retakes" are something else. He'll use the instrumental track of a well-known song and write all new lyrics, possibly adjusting the original track as well. They are just a fun challenge for himself. He doesn't own the copyright. Here, he started with Nas' Half Time track, made some additions, and created an homage rap on top. Ren definitely has braggadocious songs. My favorite is "Illest of Our Time" as he doubles up on being sick at rapping and physically ill with disease. The entire "Sick Boi" album revolves around the myriad ways one can be ill. The best introduction is the first track, "Seven Sins." 🔥🔥🔥

Just to note, the genius lyrics site barely scratches the surface of the subliminal and doubles in the lyrics for this track. Example right at the start - a flaming sambka is a shot…and then he goes to make a 3 point shot… The “rap without Ren is like” scheme is made up of comments Nas fans put as answers to the question “rap without Nas is like” on the Halftime video - so it’s shouting out not only Nas but his fans by calling back to them. The sales/sails will rise leads into a pirate ship scheme, with the patch on the eye (music patches too), hooked on the music also Captain Hook, rats to the music = PIEd piper …leading to pie-rats/pirates - and waviest guy (on the ocean waves) but also Nas was initially called kid wave (he also gives a nod/wave to the car). The line about splitting the atom, Nas debuted on the album “Breaking Atoms”. I could go on - there are so many layers to the lyrics on this track it’s ridiculous - and still keeping it catchy and fun.
