Thank you for watching and for the comment. I hope so, I cannot stand joinery any longer! It was a massive part of my breakdown. The stress of shopfitting is ridiculous. Restoration is something that I have alway's wanted to do so glad I am finally giving it a go. Thank you for such a nice comment.

Winging it is kinda expected as each one of these cars are as individual as the owners. 30 plus years have given them time to mellow (rust) no two resto jobs are the same. You are doing great so far.

One bit of advice on drilling the spot welds out , sometimes the drill bit will cut better if you don't run the drill at full speed , sometimes you need to slow the speed down a bit to help it cut better

Made a great start, an air hammer chisel can help separate spot welded seams.

I have been a joiner for the past 15 years and the shopfitting industry is that fast paced you don't have time to methodically think/do anything so my mindset/ work ethic is 150mph all the time! Hopefully this slow's me down a little. I really haven't got stressed or annoyed with it yet. I am so thankful to finally be doing something I want to do and enjoy it.

I've been watching a few of your videos now. Now I know you're a carpenter, I'll watch a few more.

Also, do you have a big impact gun ? I think I remember you saying you didn't. Something like the Milwaukie M18 is insanely powerful.

@@DanChambersDAC Honestly, at your level I would say it is a must. The Milwaukie m18 90 degree impact wrench is also a must. It makes taking these cars apart so much easier. Low-key serious top tip, if you remove any bolts or nuts from the car, whether that be on the chassis or anywhere on the engine. STRAIGHT UP REPLACE THEM. Only saying this because I generally tried to reuse them and because of their shoddy build quality from factory, they won't torque correctly, they shear and round off in the threads constantly. I never felt happier working on my MK1 Campaign then when I replaced all of the bolts/nuts. Just bought massive packs of m10, m11, m13, bolts etc. Anyway fricking nice videos, it's insane how good you are at it !

Good effort Dan👍🏻 couple of things, slow down or pulse you spot weld drill bit it’ll last longer and every know and again “dress” the rake angle with a grinder.Get the lovely people at Sealey to provide you with an air chisel. Also do you wear knee pads? Thank me in 20 years regarding the knees👍🏻👍🏻

Really enjoying your series of videos on this project, it's providing some inspiration for myself to get my backside in gear and sort out my own project MK1 which is the same year as yours, but mine is a cabriolet model. I've owned it a staggering 17 years, the last 5 of which it's sadly been off the road sat out in the elements. I can see you taking on jobs here that I know I'm going to have to do myself. Keep up the good work! :-)

Make sure you mark you panel before removing it so you have reference points for the new panel to go back in just incase its bigger or smaller. Also buy a metal centre punch it will locate the centre of your spot weld before drilling it out and won't slip all over the place.

Loving the channel Dan, I'm in the middle of restoring my Mk1 already have the floors in and a new front end, you'd be better with a complete front panel comes with the reinforcement but the lower piece keeps the top original 👍

Try using a slower drill speed while using the spot weld drill bit as they tend to burn out quite quickly and it makes it harder to drill with them.

Thank you for watching and for the comment. I tried turning the drill down but it doesn't cut too well. Seem's to cut better at speed... Maybe I have already dulled the tip. Time for a new one.

Still up there in my current favourite 5 channels on YT with regular content. Maybe even leaped above the other bloke from Leicester who messes with posh cars. Your channel seems to be heading down the original route with getting a car back to how it should be rather than wrapping in vinyl and calling everything 'sic'! Like others have mentioned - a great choice of music. Not grime or some thumping rap, keep it that way and I think you will be fine in a lot of peoples eyes (ears). As for content, dont know if we needed to see as much of the drilling of the spot welds but understand this is the nature of the beast at this stage. Once you have seen someone drill 6 spot welds then do you need to see the next 20? Maybe a quick time lapse would have been enough there. Also have a look at how other channels do theirs, Im not saying copy them but the idea of doing a narration over some parts explaining what you are doing covers the footage of what you are doing with an explanation at the same time with some low level music behind it. That's all in the editing which I understand is a skill in itself and you need the hardware and software to do that. All in all, keep it up, well done :)

Our channels are totally different yes, Love what he does and I would love to have a go at wrapping a car. maybe a T5.... I only had a certain amount of content to edit this video so made the best of what I had. I am more focussing on the work on the car than the editing of the video's. Maybe I should put more effort into the editing.

One of the most laborious jobs to do, what was your reason for not replacing the whole of the front panel, ???, including the front cross member. Down the line a bit, but what’s the thoughts on rust proofing,
