Removing Sound Moderators From Licensing Controls | Home Office Consultation
Спорт
The Home Office has launched a public consultation on the proposal to remove sound moderators from current licensing controls, completely deregulating them, which is well overdue. We review the questions and discuss the benefits of taking suppressors off certificates. Enjoy.

That’s great news for sure on sound moderators, but unfortunately the gun laws are way too restrictive in the UK. They need to repeal the handgun ban at the very least for .22.
while i sadly don't have a license (not sure if id be eligible to get one) I filled it in for you guys. All hobbies like airsoft/Real steel should back each other up to protect/improve the hobbies
Lets hope they get this through before Labour get in .

Labour will just reverse it
Well done Home office should speed up the licence end
Good video, thanks. It's crazy as I have two interchangeable shotgun moderators, one ATek and one Hushpower that I use on pest control on my section 2 shotguns. No licence required, but means no ear protection required and livestock not spooked.
Also feel when you sell a firearm say .22lr you shouldn’t have to send off for a 1for1 it should be automatically that you can buy a firearm of the same caliber

Completely agree, at the very lest the 1for1 could be administrated by an RFD.

I ask why 1 for 1 slots. Should get a caliber slot. If you can have a slot for a .22lr for instance. Why can you only have one. The slot is already based on the fact you have permission to use that calibre.
Definitely needed. Sound moderators though tracked are often listed as unknown make and no serial, impossible to truely track and easy to get confused. Offers no risk. All would need to be done is just state that you need a FAC to purchase and retain them. Then stop tracking them. Same with ammunition. It has never made sense. It doesn't stop anything, other than forcing you to count individual rounds to ensure you don't accidentally go over a limit. I am not sure what it is trying to prevent. Even if it was just a limit on what you could buy at one time, but you could hold as much as you can fit in your ammo safe, then that would be better. The other biggest one we need is one for one variations done at a dealer. For example hand over the same firearm type, calibre and action type for another done as a swap. There isn't any logical need to need to have a form for swapping a gun type around. It would also increase sales and the industry massively. Mostly ammo restrictions and arbitrary "good reason" restrictions on guns when the overarching "good reason" is met. Also I would like to see the removal of forcing people to shoot guns for target shooting 3 times or more a year, it does limit people to have to get enough range use of all their guns and basically limits the ability to possess more. Attending the club 3 times or more, yes, that makes sense. But if I want to focus on other guns during a year there should not be a penalized system for this. It would also mean we would not then have to keep writing gun details down every single range trip which is tedious.
Now if only they got rid of the slot system entirely

Most other countries seem to have a 'category' system, where depending on what you're doing you can have X number of guns that meet that criteria. Would make a lot more sense. 💁🏼♂️

That would also be a very good suggestion for question 5

@@EnglishShooting I heard from my RFD that one country has a card system, no printed licence that has to be amended. Pure electronic system. You are saying given 5 slots for up to a certain calibre and if you wanted to buy a new gun and you had the 5 slots filled, you can go to your RFD, he would buy the gun remove the one you don't want, say a .22wmr and allow a purchase of a rifle of a differnt calibre .17hmr there and then. No sending away for variations or completing forms. Swipe off, swipe on. Also the RFD can see exactly what you have on your licence and it would be 100% up to date. Only draw back I can see if you want to sell privately then you would have to go online and complete the form.

@nickmactools Northern Ireland manage to have this system without issue, they also have pistols still too
@nickmactools

@@cnorris517 really? So it's part of the UK, so why aren't we all using the same system I wonder?
It's not just approved clubs being able to share long-barreled handguns and S1 shotguns, people should be able to use them under the 'estate exemption' too. If someone can use a 22lr rifle on private land for target shooting, they should be able to use a 22lr pistol, similarly if they can use a 357 lever action rifle on private land for target shooting, they should be able to use a 357 long barreled revolver. The omittions make no sense at all.
Already done thanks Callum
Very well articulated, nice addition of the recommendation to update the Home Office Approval Wording. Great stuff.
Good news!
Already submitted my response
'Sounds' a great idea, though this is the first I've heard of it (must have been very quiet). However, just tried to put in my views, but the consultation closed on the 2nd April.........Bugger!
Hopefully this will speed up applications dramatically

It will at least give firearms licensing departments one less excuse for the extreme delays in some areas.
Thanks for speading awareness Callum. Will this also apply to flash hiders?
@EnglishShooting
3 ай бұрын
I would hope so and assume they will, no one really pays attention to flash hiders to begin with and it’s a little weird they are included to begin with so it would make perfect sense to deregulate them as well.
@DaibhidhBhoAlba

Yes. Read the consultation. They include the revised text and it doesn't include the flash hider text.
This would be a great if they do. However the phase “Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes” comes to mind.

Always
This is great news, it will happen. What about flash hiders, they come under the same duresticution as sound moderatiors, some do not realise this, will they fall under the exemption?.
Done 👍
this is just another symptom of the broken firearm licensing system in general. digitise the licensing system and create a DVLA for firearms, apply legislation and guidance universally across the country and according to the letter of the law and not the whims of whoever is in charge in a particular authority.
I'll second the scrapping of the 1 for 1 variation, if you're already cleared for one type of firearm and you want to part-ex the one you have for another, why do we need to go through the process we have to follow at the moment? And talking of harm done, I don't think anyone has been hurt (apart from the very rare mechanical failure) by a sound moderator, but plenty have suffered harm by not using one, and the government is still settling hearing loss compensation claims from armed forces personnel.
Done! By the way, what are the feelings about the .22 arc caliber now??? Can we get bolt and semi rifles in such caliber???
@cnorris517
3 ай бұрын
Not sure why you'd assume 22ARC would be treated any differently to any other centerfire cartridge.
Hi ,do you know if semi auto sub 12lb air rifles are allowed in the UK ,apparently its a grey area ,a semi auto sub 12 air rifle would be better for follow up shots when pesting ,I know there's something about if the magazine hold the air as well ?
@EnglishShooting
3 ай бұрын
It's not such a grey area more impossible to find the actual black and white law on the matter. It really depends on your definition of semi-auto, semi-auto (self loading) sub 12ft lb air rifles are section 5 and prohibited however there are a number of semi-auto (self indexing) sub 12ft lb on the market which are legal. As long as the pellet isn't chambered and is contained within the magazine then it isn't considered to be semi-auto in a legal sense as the legal definition is self loading.

@@EnglishShooting Karma are bringing out a new PCP rifle called the SLS ,you have a side lever, and at a press of a button it then becomes semi on a blow back system, it has a rotary magazine for the pellets, as I won't be bothering to get another FAC I am getting back into shooting but with air rifles, just landed 500 acres to shoot on
@DaibhidhBhoAlba

It's not grey at all. Self-loading rifles (other than 22rf) are Section 5. However, self-indexing airguns aren't self-loading as they don't load anything into the breach, so they're not Section 5.
@crazycressy7986

@DaibhidhBhoAlba Yes, I also read this on the poilce website, but I was reading on some forums about it being a grey area ,as an ex powder burner now turned air rifle shooter I want to get it right👍
Sorry, me again, I have a question regarding the statistics for firearm offences. How many of these are for harm or damage, and how many are for technical offences, what's the breakdown? As handguns feature so highly, it could be taken that a lot of the offences could be just for possession without a licence, as they're section 5 in most of the UK. How many offences are by non-licence holders?
Long overdue, fingers crossed
Not sure I agree with “strongly agree” for q3…..this could lead to sound moderators been mandated to be purchased and used always with a rifle if we deem it too important for h&s
Good. Next get it so you can own any firearm with a firearms license
does this mean they can be sent through the post
Why would this only be proposes by the home office months before the tories are removed from power? This will never be signed into law before an election and labour will put it straight in the bin.
It’s strange so I wouldn’t get too excited as we all know the government do not want ANY firearms owned by any public , this is the way things will eventually go so moderator or no moderator on ticket , don’t get too excited …….
But if they take moderators off of ticket, what’s to stop them saying all rifles have to have a moderator for health and safety reasons? All the guns that don’t already have screw fitted barrels will need to be adapted to allow a moderator to be fitted.

As I said before. DON'T TAKE THESE VIDEOS AS LEGALLY BINDING. ALWAYS DO YOUR OWN LEGAL FOOTWORK REGARDING UK FIREARMS LAW.
I have 5 moderators. None have a serial number!
Spot checks lol 🤦🏼♂️
whose daft idea was it to have them on the ticket anyway? just more pointless beaurocracy.

“20.These accessories were added to the controls at a time when there were concerns about the use of these devices by poachers, enabling them to shoot game illegally by reducing the noise of their rifles. Such concerns have dissipated over time and are now considered to be outweighed by the health and safety benefits to professional rangers and others in the exercise of their legitimate, lawful functions.” Copied from govt website
