Adopted a 9yr old staffy last week from a local shelter. Homeless was inspiration for picking her. She's such a sweetie! thanks Homeless!

When you went “.. that was pretty easy to remove” my head rocked back in shock. Kurtis had to overcome like 3-4 different obstacles in removing that diff alone and it was just business as usual to him. Your attitude and ability is just inspirational; if I ran into one little seized bolt I’d be whinging up and down 😂

@@nickcollins1528 The hardware needs replacing anyway, so why mess around pulling the axle housing, then the springs, etc. separately? Easier to get it all out in one go and do the rest of the work out in the open.

I love how the shop birds have become a regular addition to your videos. They're really cute, and must be nice to have them around singing throughout the day.

I agree, its nice to hear the sounds of work even in timelapse, I always disliked loud music on videos and find videos without music to be more relaxing. Awesome work on this one as always ❤

'Is that gonna leak everywhere?', 'Eventually'. That had me in tears. At this point you may as well of purchased an hydraulic arm and a steering wheel. This has got to be one of the best video series you guys have done so far. Thank you Karen, Kurtis and Homie.

In my automotive repair career, I spent close to 4 years in 2 different driveline shops. Pretty much everything from the transmission back was within our purview. Differentials, driveshafts, gearboxes, that was us. It was hard to get the smell of gear oil out of your clothes (much like diesel fuel), but I'm a lot more nostalgic for those smells than I was enamored with them in my time. Loved watching someone else do this kind of work. I could watch it all day. Sometimes I do.

ive been rebuilding diffs and manual transmissions for years and I still hate the smell of gear oil!

Today I learned that Aussies call "rings gears" "crown wheels". Thanks for the video!

Not to confuse the issue but ring gears are found on the flywheels of engines to engage the starter motor and are usually straight cut. Crown wheels are found in differentials and are usually bevel gears. At least that's been my experience.

I’m an HD mechanic in Alberta Canada. I’m shocked that those u-bolts came loose. I’ve seen lots with less rust that a one inch gun couldn’t remove

Another great video. I love to hear the birds singing. Many decades ago, I knew a guy that took a differential out of his truck to have it repaired and reinstalled it upside down and he had 4 reverse gears and 1 forward. The funniest thing I ever heard.

You missed the perfect chance to annoy people by using 123 blocks to block up the ram while jacking up the crane. Also look into getting some car dollies so you can wheel the diffs under the crane.

One of the main thing I get out of your videos is just how patient (colourful vernacular aside) and methodical you are. I'm always so focused on the goal - getting the job done - that I cut corners, get a sub-par result, and get shit-off with the whole thing. Watching you work is like a meditation on how to pay attention to the journey, not just the finish line :)

Retrain your brain; you'll be happier as a result. I had the advantage of working on helicopters in the Navy. It's pretty hard to pull over, get out and see what's wrong with the repair at 10,000 feet - even if you're the one that made the repair. Even in my later career as an automotive mechanic, I very often asked someone to double check my work; similar to the way we did it in the Navy. In the Navy (and our sister services), a quality check was a mandatory step in the process of effecting repairs; it was dictated from on high. You don't have that as a civilian mechanic, but it's a good idea when you can to help prevent needless come-backs. It's saved me an aggrieved customer a time or three. Of course it doesn't stop the occasional "ever since you worked on my car, the tires all go flat" kinds of come-backs, but what can you do? You can't whack your customers, as tempting as that may be.

A man with skills and tools, to do anything mechanically. It is great to see the man playing with his tools in his money making shop. I worked in my shop 43 years, doing mechanical work, and loved loved loved being able to take a break and work on the machines that makes me money. It was so much fun to bring them to perfect again. So for me, It is so cool to see my man pulling his rig apart to make it just like he knows it should be and deserves to be. Right down below the rust - get 'em amigo. What fun !!

Removing both axles to inspect the diffs just proves you're a different kind of fella. Always enjoy the videos.

Bet Kurtis will still be finding coal dust in it for years, as it came from a coal mine, and had a rattlecan overhaul before it was sold, so it just looked shiny white on the outside, and inside was all shyte.

The coal fired power station I worked in had a yard crane with driven front axle and dually wheels. The back had one pair of dual wheels that could turn 180 degrees lock to lock. A sort of three wheeler. It looked out of the ark but was incredibly useful. We called it the Iron Fairy but I’ve not found images that match what we had.

@@SeanBZA Everyone does that. Dunno why, at least for myself, i always end up shaming them into cost cuts. I always end up using it against them and it always works. They start up puffed up and end up deflated, especially when i say that i would've paid more for an honest vehicle.

George seems to be a fan of young folk's tv program called The Clangers. Space folk who lived on the Moon and communicated by whistling just like George was doing. @@CuttingEdgeEngineering I had to stay up and find out how George was doing and of course make sure the safety officer was keeping up on his job. The small Milwaukee blower that you’ve got I have the same one in a Dewalt. They’re brilliant for small areas to clean up but boy they go through battery life in a hurry.

What an awesome start to my day, coffee and heavy industrial machinery- a break from my normal IT job.

Incidentally those electric leaf blowers are a superb tool for cleaning all the dust from your editing/gaming PC.

I am impressed by the scope of your skill set. Sure, mucking about in any field of activity usually causes SOME degree of bleed-over into related trades. But the confidence (and success) by which you tackle tasks more related to mechanics and machine fitters is impressive. Well done!

I've learnt more from these videos than I ever did during my school education or when I worked at the buss depo. Big companies just take the stuff out and send it away to get a replacement put in. Here I actually see how things work!

Freaking love the crane project!!!

That is so much work! I bought at a equipment auction a carry deck crane as we call it here in America, it was a 12,000 pound rated boom I seem to recall, only paid $5,000 for it, drove it home around 2 miles away, sold it for $8,000 three weeks later, was in mint condition. Though I am in Alaska equipment like this is very common and often gets sold cheap for minimal reasons.

Am I the only one thinking one stiff gust of wind will blow the crane over now that its center of mass has risen about 6 feet (2m)? If Kurtis removes any more mass from the chassis, he’s gonna need to attach ground anchors to the elevated mast! Loving this series all around!

Another excellent video. This series is testament to the "Do it right or GTFO" mindset that seems to exemplify what I would call the "CEE Quality Policy." You just never see Kurtis cheap out or take the low-road when it comes to the quality of the work. That's pretty rare in today's world! Keep going, Kurtis and Karen. I'm hooked!

I see the old "blue tipped spanner" is getting a lot of use ;)

2:36 No water separation. 100% milkshake. That's a good sign. Stable emulsion without separated water aka pure milkshake is not great for lubrication but it's at least nearly as good as clean oil for preventing corrosion. Basically, you can look at it as artisan-made machining coolant 😉

For those wondering the wily wagtail (the small bird) is trying to keep the Butcher bird away from the vicinity of it's nest. The Butcher bird is called that for a reason and like many others will predate on baby birds of other species. they are however very friendly to people.
