Hammering the ice dam is a great way to screw up your gutters. Create troughs through the ice dam by using the least corrosive ice melt you can find. Fill a stocking with it and lay it across the gutter vertically. This will allow the water to drain from your roof.

I'm having a shitty day and iced up gutters are just one of dozens of problems I'm dealing with around my house, seeing your hammer snap at 3:10 had me laughing so much. Thanks!

When you re-roof put on a metal roof. Ice slides off, but watch your head! 😎👍🍻🇺🇸

Have you peeked up in the attic to see if there is sufficient insulation by the rafter/truss tails???I have seen it where they didn't have the insulation pushed in properly to block off openings to the soffit and around the baffles and the heat/cold just poured in/out and froze everything, and of course lack of overall insulation will do it and always build up like that on low pitch roofs. 👍👍

You might have heat escaping into your attic, your temperature in the attic should be same as the outside temperature.

It happens without attic problems too. All it takes is snow, heat from the sun during the day and freezing at night. Once the gutters are blocked, or on roof edge without gutters, an ice dam can form on any building.
