That helped me a lot, thank you.

I just took one apart yesterday. Between the key being extremely worn and the gunk buildup of dirt and brass filings, it was a mess. You can take it apart by dressing the retainer pin and turning it until the tab aligns will pull apart.

I bought a new one on Amazon for $10 and havent had a problem ever since and I have a keyless entry on the alarm so I dont worry bout the doors and I did hide a key with the magnetic hide a key on the truck if I ever lost battery power so

My Original Key does the same thing but the spare key works perfectly sometimes the key itself wear out.

My key has come out for years now lol but that's it no other issues so I just leave it alone

What about the keylock button next to the key? Would that allow you to get into accessory mode?

The 08 to 13 gm trucks have same lock cylinder issues. And my 15 camaro has same issue. So bloody annoying. Problem with these newer ones, u have to pay for a key program and the cylinder. Also, soak the cylinder in kerosene over night. Might loosen up whats stuck

John, from what I see posted in your video, it appears that your truck was from flood prone from where unknown. You may want to remove the panels from the doors, kick panels to see any other stuck on dirt. Also, you may want to look up the history of your newer Dakota.

I took mine off and took it to a lock Smith...50 bucks good as new

I can turn my truck on and do everything else but I have a 1998 SLT laramie, the key is stuck and won’t come out, stuck on last hash mark, help???

I had that happen in a 93 Chevy couldn’t turn off the truck or turn the key. It idled for 3 hours till the locksmith got there and fixed it for me. He said not every locksmith could do what he did to fix it 🤷🏻‍♂️ but I’m sure you’ve got yours fixed by now.

Starter sounds weird is it new or worn out.. ? Or is it jus cause the difference sounding starting for v6 verses v8 Sound ? An I wouldn’t been so cheap jon I woulda jus put new switch in lol

The starters are all the same....It did have a weird sound plus I noticed a lot of vibrations like it had a misfire.

Starter was $25 so I can’t be too picky. Truck has a couple check engine codes I have to go through as well but at least it starts and runs for now 😆

The button to push os on the bottom, not on the side. Push that and it's easy.

Do you guys know why my car doesnt do nothing when turning the key I have to start the key directly from starter

@@maxlewis2234 I disassemble it and put a little bit of WD-40 and after that the car is starting like brand new!

To bad you where not able to take it apart it would have been really nice to know why my Dodge Dakota's key pulls out when it in the run position. I sure hope it is not a purpose designed thing. :(

How to change with out key

Message me if you have anymore problem I can explain how to get this ignition apart and rebuilt.. also good rule of thumb don’t use graphite. Even tho they say it is for locks it thickens.. I worked for a lock smith for many years a while ago I always cleaned the lock with breaks parts cleaner while running the key in and out then used a good lithium spray grease.. no WD-40 there new formula is water based and will turn rusty over time

My key comes right out too. Always has for the 15 years I’ve had my truck. I like it 😂. I’ll start my truck let it warm up and I can lock the doors and have my key in my pocket. I’m starting to have the issues you are having and I don’t want to replace it because I know then I can’t pull out the key 🤣 Anyone know how to hack it and make the key come out on a new one?

hope that deal has not been underwater etc on yours...call locksmith,or smoke a joint,an then you may get er done...

steering wheel locks doin 70 down the road,o hell no...

i would never risk that,its half way...an remember...call a locksmith...

Why not do an engine swap?

I wouldn’t be able to register it out here if we do that. 🤷‍♂️

i told my daughter, call the lockssmith, she had lost the key,an then had to get a steering column, 80 bucks for a phord,then we had terrible fight,an im blocked,an dont know if phord place fixed her car or nuthin whatsoever....
