I have a toy American Eskimo...and it wasn't long before I had issues with tear staining with my pure white puppy. That stain is not what you want to have on a pure white dog or cat. On a vet visit I mentioned the eyes. She suggested that I might want to try an eye cleaning wipe called Optixcare. She said to start by cleansing the area of stain, in the morning, then use another wipe in the evening, and do so for a couple of weeks. I was really impressed with how well it worked. I reduced the treatment to once a day, and then just kept a close watch each day to make sure there wasn't anything there to cause staining. He is 10 now and I have never had issues since. I keep them on hand and about once or twice a month I use them. The price will vary depending on which vet office you purchase from (services and items at vets are not necessarily the same price)...my advice... call and check various vet locations in your area. The ones I have cost $8.26 + tax (NS) and that's for a pk of 50.

I have a 19 week old purebred Pomeranian puppy that I bought from a breeder, and the breeder neglected to care for the puppy's eyes, so she had very bad tear staining. I noticed that she had very watery eyes often, so I did some research and decided to try to remedy whatever was causing the excessive eye tearing first. I started with allergies since that is something easily done at home. I checked the quality and ingredients of the dog food the breeder provided and noticed many additives and preservatives that can cause allergies and changed to a better quality brand. Still no improvement so I decided to do basic allergy testing with single ingredients. Come to find out that she has an allergy to chicken and chicken by-products. So I then switched to a high quality single ingredient dry dog food (made with salmon) and her eyes are watering much less often now. I started cleaning my home more frequently to keep the dust down and I keep her out of rooms I'm cleaning with chemicals until it has aired out completely. (although it would be best to use all-natural cleaning products) I also give water from my Brita filter pitcher which appears to work just fine. After making all these adjustments and cleaning and drying the tear stain area every day twice a day for a week, and applying coconut oil to the area, there was slight improvement on the coloration. but still very red. Then I watched this video and gave this method a try, and let me just say, I only applied it one single time, waited until it got dry and fell off on its own, and the tear staining was about 50% gone the next morning! Honestly, I was really about to give up and just trim the hair off to start fresh, but I feel like this is going to really help and im eager to see it completely gone! Thank you for sharing this method!

My groomer suggested bottled spring water for my Beagle as the water here in the UK has fluoride in it, 4 weeks later his fur around his eyes was completely clear

Easiest for me is Multipurpose soft contact lense cleaner, NO RUB. They'll say, "dissolves protein" on the label. If it's a white dog you can apply a touch of corn starch to the area afterwards.

You are right about about the bottle water.

Been using this for years. I don’t show dogs. Never been to one. I shared this with my vet. He never heard of it. My son is now a vet and it wasn’t mentioned when revealed diet and nutrition was taught. It’s messy, but it works. You must use it multiple days and nights to completely get stain free. Stains will return as long as root of problem is not found and prevented.

My dog has bad staining all the way down her cheeks.... I am beside myself in grief but I don't see how hydrogen peroxide is safe on their face?
