  • @KevinGillan

    The Ford King Ranch is a unique vehicle in that it is the only production automobile with unfinished (unprotected) leather. In this regard it is treated differently than any other vehicle as the rest of production cars and trucks have a finished (pigmented coated) leather. For normal maintenance we recommend our SG - 50 conditioner/protector. In the event it is heavily stained, faded, body oils, etc. then we recommend restoring the leather with a full finish to conceal the ugliness, rendering the leather back to like new.

    A quality leather cleaner like our Advanced Leather Cleaner should do the trick for you. (www.advleather.com/product-list.html). If there is a residual stain, then the solution requires coloring over the stain with a matching color. A qualified leather repair technician can certainly do that for you, if necessary.

    What you are dealing with are oils from the chocolate that have migrated into the leather. The solution is to pull the oils out first and then see that's left to correct via color restoration. Our oil extractor will pull the oils out. I do expect a residual stain that can be colored over once the oils from the chocolate are removed. www.advleather.com/professional-products.html#oilextractor

    Any recommendations for removing oils and salt from full quill, Ostrich skin boots?

  • @KevinGillan

    @KevinGillan

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Eric Brandenburg - Oils can be extracted from leather because of their migration attribute. However, salt deposits were drawn in typically dissolved in water. When the water evaporates away, the salt and other mineral matter is left behind. These are now permanent and cannot be removed.

    If you spray the color, then you have to be aware of overspray considerations so you would protect the surrounding area. We also provide color that you can apply with a wipe-on strategy. This eliminates and overspray issues.

    Sir,any recomendation for removing ink from same kind of leather jacket......

  • @KevinGillan

    @KevinGillan

    5 жыл бұрын

    The coloring agent of ink is a dye. The concentration of dye in the ink is an important variable. For example, a permanent marker has far higher concentration of dye than a cheap ball point pen. Assuming the worst --- to resolve you leach the ink out with a solvent like denatured alcohol. This will also pull the leather color causing a bleaching effect. Then, match the leather color and with an air brush, apply the matching color over the offended area. Follow up with a top coat that matches the existing sheen.

  • @rubywinston8979
    @rubywinston89796 жыл бұрын

    "Naphtha is used to help strip the offended area so that it will allow the oils to move more freely out of the leather, not be held in by the color coating. However, it's no longer available in California so we've had to find a substitute. Our oil extractor is made with a mild degreaser (not naphtha) blended with a dry powder that acts like as a drawing agent for the offending oils." What is the difference between acetone and naphtha? I saw 2 different videos of yours. I have a couch with 3 cushions much darker than the couch is. I am about to clean it - I don't know which to use. .

  • @KevinGillan

    @KevinGillan

    6 жыл бұрын

    Acetone is an aqueous (water friendly) ketone solvent. It is the wrong chemistry. It will simply drive the oils deeper into the leather (oil and water don't mix). If you can't get Naphtha, use Odorless Mineral Spirits. It will be effective, its just slower than Naphtha.

    +The Kings Bay --- it is a correctable condition, but it won't go away by itself. The real fear is that the contamination may actually be damaging the leather as there is usually a pH differential between the leather and the oil. The pH differential gets neutralized as the 2 pH elements come in contact. Depending on the degree of differential determines the degree pH damage the leather suffers. If you don't see any damage to the leather, then you'll have to live with it.

    You couldn't be more WRONG on multiple levels. 1. Our oil extractor IS available on our web-site found here: www.advleather.com/professional-products.html#oilextractor 2. We create systems that are wipe-on based. They do NOT require an airbrush. Look in the DIY section of our web-site here: www.advleather.com/diy-home.html 3. When coloring leather you can use a dye or a pigment based coloring system. In the world of leather repair and restortation, pigment based systems are almost always used for their covering power, not DYES. To learn more, read our blog entry on the subject of dyes vs. pigments found here: advleather.blogspot.com/search?q=dye+vs+pigment If you want to learn more about the world of leather repair, read my book: The Comprehensive Guide to Leather Repair and Restortion. I did that on a leather jacket years ago, but then the jacket was rough feeling, because I have no way to smooth plate that. So I suppose this couch coat is also rough. How did you make it smooth again?

  • @KevinGillan

    @KevinGillan

    7 жыл бұрын

    It is rendered smooth by gentle sanding and application of our primer coat that ties down and residual fibers that create that gritty or rough feeling. Then apply a color coat to conceal any residual stain.

    How do I do this (remove oil) from a leather car seat?

  • @KevinGillan

    @KevinGillan

    the oil extractor we manufacture will draw oils from any porous material. We engineered it for leather but it will work on other porous surfaces as will like concrete. In any event, it may also pull the color so when we use it we are prepared to apply the missing color to cover over any residual stain or color loss as a result of the oil extraction procedure.

    Kevin Gillan What if it is acrylic, oil or silycone base? It is a construction pickup, but I want to remove it

  • @KevinGillan

    @KevinGillan

    6 жыл бұрын

    Your original question was how to "safely" remove paint... Acrylics are generally water based, so I would suspect it would respond well to Odorless Mineral Spirits (OMS) which is not an aggressive solvent, so therefore is safe if you use it carefully. Oil or Slilcone based paints require a more aggressive solvent like Naphtha or Toulene. However, these are aggressive stripping agents and will no doubt effect the color coat on the leather. So then the solution is to strip, and then re-apply the correct, color matched leather coloring agent. ADV Leather, Inc is a great source for leather colors that can be used to re-apply the correct color after any paint stain is stripped from the leather. They are expert at color matching leather colors. You supply the color sample, they match it.
