One thing I like about woods, they coat their equipment with heavy industrial paint that holds up well to the elements.

Thanks, this vid helped a lot. Although I had to use torches to heat the hell out of the 3/4" plate to get the pin out along with my biggest maul... But I cleaned and greased the pins before reinstalling them. Hopefully will help next time...

Never trust your life to any hydraulic system! Always block equipment up!

Woods has a good blade removal system. Most have a big ass nut that is next to impossible to remove.

Never trust hydraulics, always use support blocks..

Whatever you do, make sure to keep that two outer flex drive yokes greased. You have to remove those black covers to gain access. They wear out quick if you don't keep pumping grease to them.

Easier to just take stump jumper completely off from bottom and then take blades off than it is to fool with the top holes!

Just take key out, then the nut, knock stump jumper off through the top hole. Them blades look fairly good, we sharpen blades every 2 weeks and change blades every other month. Given bush hog is Commercially used, some we find a lot of stuff the eye won’t catch.

27 Degrees of angle?

I got the bolt and clip off mine but can't get that next key hole plate off. Any tips on how to remove it? A chisel, heat, fron the access hole or from below? Any tip would be helpfull to me. My blades are stuck, won't rotate. So trying to disassemble. Thanks

If it’s rusted on maybe try penetrating oil and heat. You could also apply some pressure from below with a Jack.

Did you watch starting at 6:10? I show how it all fits together. That should help. I just use pry bar to push the plate.

@@weathda I did see how they are taken apart when you had them apart but what tool/tools did you use to get them off? I played like hell with all kinds of metal implements. Anyway, I used a old lawnmower blade, thin long and was able to get in between the deck and the hub. And O yea, pB blaster too. Lol 😂

What? I've beat my blade pins with an 8lb sledge and they still won't come out. Yes, I removed the bolt, keeper clip, sliding plate and shim, still won't come out.

Sounds like you need some heat. Using the grease after you install will help prevent rust build up.

But...but...doing it that way (Removing one blade at a time, sharpening and then reinstalling before doing the next) doesn't allow you to balance the blades. Just did my five-footer today- balanced the blades- she runs smoother than when she was new = less wear on the gearbox, seals, shafts, etc.

I’m curious, how do you balance rotary cutter blades with a hole on the end? Do you weigh them?

@@weathda Exactly! I have a cheapo postal scale that'll hold up to 25 lbs. My blades are just under 9 lbs. Had to grind about an oz. and a 1/2 off one after sharpening them. Tell ya the truth, I think I'm going to use that method on mower blades next time too.

@@weathda Yeah, up until recently I used to do it your way- but it's so much easier doing it the other way, and you can do a superior sharpening job...and the balancing is a game-changer. Just curious: On a bigger, heavier hog like yours can you feel the vibration from the blades not being balanced? On my five-footer you definitely feel it; and now that the blades are balanced and it runs so smooth it really makes me feel better, and when it starts vibrating again I'll know it's time to sharpen/balance again. (I sharpen mine pretty sharp, as I mainly cut grass). Great vid, by-the-way!

I don’t feel it so much on the DS96 cutter. I have a 5ft bushhog and it will definitely let you know when it’s out of balance. Thanks for watching and commenting!

why go to all that trouble when you got such a big shade tree you put a chain over a big branch to flip the whole thing vertical and take a grinder to the blades. them blades never are really all that sharp to begin with anyway. it aint no finish mower. but its a free country do as you want.
