removal of a massive beaver dam!! 1/22/23

#beaverdamremoval #culverts #oklahoma #unclogging
FAQs/Why would they do that?! Answers
We are so glad you are here! Welcome to our channel!
1. We are in Oklahoma near the Arkansas border.
2. We do this on a volunteer basis.
3. Kim aka Mom is retired. Jennifer owns her own business as a massage therapist.
4. We film multiple locations in one day since we can’t go out all the time given Jen’s full time job. You may not see all the locations we filmed that day in one video.
5. You may see other people in our videos at times including Granny aka Sue (mom’s mom), Jeff (Kim’s husband and Jennifer’s dad), or Jessica (Jennifer’s little sister) and Lucy (our beautiful, amazing, wonderful dog).
6. Many wonder why we put stuff down culverts. A few reasons: it provides help for wildlife, we like to and it would have gone downstream anyway. If it blocks another culvert then we will take care of that too but most of the locations we visit are in incredibly rural areas where there won’t be another culvert for miles.
7. We care about wildlife and never want to cause harm to them. The only reason we will clear a beaver damn is if it is threatening land or roads that can not be accessed any other way. It may not be the road directly within sight but a farm road close by.
8. We appreciate advice in the comments. We understand that we will receive constructive criticism in the comments. What we won’t allow is the calling of names, derogatory terms, or just plain calling us stupid or idiots. We are all adults here and the internet is already a largely negative place as it is, let’s not add to it. We are people doing our best to help our neighborhood and planet by picking up trash and clearing culverts. Why do we deserve hate for that?
9. You may not agree with or like the way we did something but that doesn’t mean we did it wrong. There is a right/wrong way to dismantle a bomb. Clearing culverts is up for interpretation to the one doing the work.
10. We hope that you enjoy our videos and will keep coming back for more! Any other questions you have feel free to ask in the comments.
we found another beaver dam. this makes about 9 in our county so far that we have unclogged. we hope you enjoy this. we are being safe and having fun. I hope I have finally conquered the picture in picture. I know the view isn't that great for the secondary shot. sometimes you don't know how it is going to look until after the fact. we have gotten better though in upcoming videos. hope y'all enjoy!

Your persistence paid off. Very satisfying watching you chip away at the dam and seeing the water level drop. A follow up video would be awesome if it's near enough to your home? I hate seeing all the drowning trees and knowing that it will just become a lifeless, muddy swamp. Beavers make the land so ugly, so well done.

Beavers do a magnificent job for the ecosystem and biodiversity. They help in times of drought. For those idiots who love killing wildlife for fun they provide a habitat for ducks. In some places it’s illegal to destroy a beaver dam. They’re actually being introduced back into nature in Scotland. Humans are much more accomplished at making the land look ugly than beavers are.

I love watching your videos if I were there I'd be right there with you helping. Awesome job ladies you really put a lot of work into taking apart the dams . Just one thing to keep in mind is that beavers are very smart and will rebuild the same dam tougher and stronger and harder to take apart just something to keep in mind. Again awesome job ladies your great.

I believe that it's okay if it's a secondary pond but if it's the pond where the lodge is, the beavers need the water to float the branches in. If they can't do that then they starve.

What a gigantic job that was! Wow! And I think that it is best to keep 2 trash bags to rip open and lay over the seats in the car.. for the next time either or both fall in a under water hole those beaver's make for making a big old dam! And those old dams already are a pain in the **** to demolish 😕 But that had to have drained a gigantic amount of water! Hopefully the beaver's did not have that plugged up already. Great job Ladies! 😎👌👊 (Edit, typo)

My still healing knee after replacement gave out and I started to fall. I was terrified I’d damage it and I don’t even know how but, holding on to the handlebar I managed to slide down to the floor on my butt, keeping my healing leg out in front of me. I think I did that rather gracefully, except for the trying to get up part! 🤣 Hubby held the bike seat from his in-bed position two feet away. 😵‍💫 I hope you’re laughing!

I have been watching one channel where the guy is on top of the dam and gets really good pieces off with the rake dismantling the dam the opposite way. He is standing on the dam turning his back to the beaver swamp. That technique seemed really effective too. (Jennifer actually used it at the end!) Was it the skydiver dudes' channel or where did I see that? Oh well, this is fun to watch and the algae/pollen moving toward the dam is fun to watch!

I thought you may be interested in this A rewilding charity is hoping to win permission for proposals that could see beavers return to a Highland glen for the first time in 400 years. Trees for Life is to apply for a Scottish Government licence to reintroduce beavers to Glen Affric following extensive community consultation. The charity, working on behalf of a partnership that includes Government agency Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) and four private landowners, will develop the application over the coming months and submit it to NatureScot for approval. If permission is granted, reintroductions could take place in Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin as early as autumn this year. It would be the first official release of beavers to the north-west Highlands since the species was driven to extinction 400 years ago.
