Excellent! Finally got Frigate running on a separate Dell Optiplex 7040. Thank you for pulling all the threads into one place. Turns out the final bug was a quotation mark missing in a config file - but it’s squashed now. Next I’ll be using your other videos to tune up Frigate and Home Assistant (just getting going on HA running on Proxmox on an old Dell R320 server).

@@mostlychris The ability to isolate everything and create virtual networks is also awesome! Network Chuck had a great Docker networking episode. I've watched that a few times. I even have a couple extra PIs for the moment by moving things to containers. They'll find a new purpose soon I'm sure. 😅

Hi Criss really struggling with docker but have to get it working as my new HA yellow can’t handle the cpu use and won’t detect my coral Do I need to mkdir both - /home/mostlychris/frigate/config.yml:/config/config.yml:ro - /home/mostlychris/frigate/storage:/media/frigate Under the frigate mkdir? Is there anyway I can learn to use docker to get this running I managed to use docker compose with the frigate config but can’t get the files mounted properly I don’t think

Thanks for the video. I only use a docker when it is absolutely necessary and that is rare. I like things to be simple as possible, just me. I recently installed Mosquitto broker in a LXC running on my Proxmox system instead of running the add-on so that I still have an active MQTT broker while HA has to be restarted. I like less complication, so I can enjoy life more, rather than troubleshooting setup issues and such. I already spend enough time doing that. Just my thoughts, nothing against you.

I think it is recommended to put Frigate in an LXC if you use ProxMox, rather than a virtual machine and docker. Bre metal is best with anythign like this, but if you need to run ProxMox, consider LXC instead.

  • @mostlychris

Set up an MQTT broker and then point the entities to the broker and then the different servers to the broker. The broker is the "hub" of all your MQTT traffic.

  • @mostlychris

Take a look at the frigate page linked in the description for features. For me, the main advantages are object detection built in AND running on a non-windows device with much lower power consumption. This is even more important when wanting to run the cameras/frigate on backup when the power is out.

You just need to edit your compose file and have it point to a location on the server where you are running this (or a file share if using that and it is mapped). I think I cover where in the file to put it.
