Make sure you hook up that linear drain to a 3 piece. Traditional in and out system and not a membrane system, there's been lots of leaks.

@jojorn4951 It means that fleece membrane systems shouldn't be hooked up to linear drains. A three piece traditional drain should be used when using a linear drain. Because there has been water problems with linear drains. Hooked up with fleece because the fleece becomes delaminated and leaks water, Using a traditional 3 piece will not do that.

I never thought it was unusual for the drain to be at the edge or corner of the shower tray

Absolutely. Its just a small gutter underneath leading to one hole. If you dont open it up to clean it regularly they get hair and mold build up. It makes it worse if its all tile, cuz then not only do you have to clean it but you have to move the heavier tile it has on top. The bigger the shower, the bigger the drain the heavier the tile you have to move regularly.

It's a waterproofing membrane. There's different brands. Most popular is redguard but most big box stores have similar stuff

What is the size of that shower?

How much does a renovation like this cost because my bathroom looks like that it’s like 4x8 not including where the tub is. The estimate costs im getting are 15k for basically just the labor and i provide materials , and then another contractor gave me a 32k estimate but would provide “high end” everything. Sounds like a joke to me . Those estimates include demo costs , decided to save 5k and demo it myself. Debating on just diying it because who tf wants to pay 15k + for a bathroom the size of a dang closet 😅
