Thanks for this video. I had exactly the same problem with the Remis Vario 2 on my Bravia i740C - which is basically the same van as yours I think. I always felt that the winder mech was under strain right from when the van was new. In the end it stopped working after the van was 3 years old. The winder turned with a clicking noise and upon inspection the cabling looked exactly the same as yours. Your video gave me the confidence to tackle this. At first I started by trying to just take the cover of the gear mech box and whilst I could see the problem (twisted cable) I wasnt going to be able to put it all back unless I took it off properly and took all the screws out that fasten the cable sheath in place. Once I had done that it made putting it all back in place so much easier. Your video gave me that confidence. Im glad Ive fixed it as I didnt want to pay out for a repair and the costs for the parts for these things are extortionate. Once again. Many Thanks

Looking back I didn't really explain what I did but it was in year 1, but if it gives you confidence to have a go you'll get it sorted. I haven;t touched it since and it still works. We just push it up first ( the rubber gets stuck due to hit weather that's all. Good luck.

@@TheMotoroamers it's all working fine now. I have always pushed it up first to break the seal so to speak. But it's quite a big window and I'm not surprised the weight tests the handle and mechanism to breaking point

This video is 3 years old and made when we first started out. It is very mechanical and you should be able to just put it back together. 3 years on it is still going OK. Good luck.

So what exactly happened to cause the problem in the 1st place? we have the same rooflight and it seems to stick to the rubber seal. :)

I wasn't there, lol but I think it was wound the wrong way ( when shut)... if you get my drift...

Same issues with Remis, and the way to ease issue is to push the dome up by hand, when winding up, stopping the extra force to lift dome off seals, and the force thereby placed on the winder; with potential to damage the gearing

Hi, which direction should the handle turn to open skylight? Just purchased a MH and just get gears graunching when handle is turned, either way!

Hey up you two. We're looking on Google for a repair to our skylight mechanism and Miles pops up, thanks for posting your repair. Just a question, Miles said ' its well and truly mashed' but we couldnt see what it was...... is it the cog ? You mentioned 'straightening the kink' , can you offer any more info when you're back from Iceland please? We're going to tackle it ourselves at some point soon. Xx Sue n Steve

Hi Susie, All you have to do is wind the mechanism in the right direction and the metal inner sheath straightens out. When you open the black box there's a clamp ( like the ones you can see to the right of the loop the loop. The black plastic outer sheath has to be clamped back into that (tightly) and that's all I did. When I say 'mashed' I was probably exaggerating for the sake of a good video. The end of the black outer sheath was ripped a bit but once back in the clamp it worked again. Oddly enough, when you force wind these things the wrong way, they don't like it. I was outside watching the Football ( just saying) lol. Hope this helps.

Hi Miles, thanks for replying . Our skylight is closed therefore, covering the black box thingy. Was yours skylight open prior to the mechanism not winding? How might we open the skylight to access the winder cables / back box please ? Susie n Stevie

@@susie0ch Hi Susie, No it was shut. From memory, I wound the mechanism handle to open it and pushed the skylight up with my hand. Hope you can get it open.
