Remington 7600 Review | Is This Pump-Action Rifle Right For You? Is It Worth The Money?
This Remington 7600 review is going to cover everything you need to know to decide if the pump-action rifle is right for you. The Remington 7600 isn’t perfect, but it does some things exceptionally well, better than any other rifle on the market, which may make it worth buying. This video is not affiliated or sponsored by Remington in any way. #Remington #7600 #Review
For a more detailed review of the Remington 7600, you can check out my blog post: jasontomeoutdoors.com/remingt...
This rifle is unique in that it’s a pump-action. Pump-actions have the ability to shoot fast follow-up shots reliably without taking your eyes off the target. When using other types of gun actions you will have to re-acquire your target which takes valuable time in those split seconds while shooting.
During follow-up shots with the 7600, you can keep the gun shouldered, with your trigger finger on the trigger, and your eye more or less still looking down the site at the target. Other guns on the market don’t offer this to the same extent.
It makes for one of the best brush guns on the market because of its ability to produce quick and reliable follow-up shots without taking your eyes and rifle off your target. The Carbine is also a great choice, it’s a small gun that packs a big wallop and is great for maneuvering in dense brush.
In this Remington 7600 review, I didn’t personally put the Remington 7600 through a rigorous accuracy test. This is because I use the Remington 7600 as a brush gun, the shots I take are rarely over 60 yards. This means accuracy is not a major factor for me at long distances.
In my opinion, the Remington 7600 is well worth the money if you’re using it for what it’s intended for (speed, reliability, and close-quarters) because there really isn’t anything else on the market that does what this rifle can do.
It probably isn’t the gun of choice for western hunters that shoot at long distances. Bolt actions are more accurate in those situations and you likely don’t need the same speed for follow-up shots as you might in close quarters.

I have the 760 (270 Winchester) my father bought in the late 50s.
I bought my 7600 years ago from my friends dad for a hundred dollars it has the high gloss stock and engraving on it I’m going to take it hunting for black tail deer next week
Excellent review. Nicely detailed descriptions of the mechanics and ergonomics of the gun. Good work, bud.

Thanks!
I bought my 7600 because I wanted the same manual of arms as my 870 shotgun. Fine rifle for sure.
I have the 7600 and 7400 carbine in 30-06 , had the safety switched for left handed both great rifles
I still have my 7600 30-06 that I bought back when I was in high school. I also inherited my grandfather's 7600 35 Whelen and man does it have some recoil but the 35 Whelen is what I'm taking up to Alaska to hunt with next year. Good review 👍

When I left the Nev. Highway Patrol I was able to acquire an old 870 with the wood furniture, and man is that thing heavy! Anyhow I was looking around for a good 30-06 for hunting but did not know much about them. Well your video sure cleared up a lot. Thank you. I do love the simplicity of a pump gun and now I have to decide between the 18 and 1/2 inch or 22 inch barrel. Again thank you for the video.

Rhe very best hunting rifles for the NEK woods, as well as the 760 Game Master ive used one for 22 years now, and its never failed me! REMINGTON ALL THE WAY!!!
Pump action is the very best, the best ergonomics and follow up shots out there!
One deer 7 elk and 1 buffalo in the years I’ve owned my in .308! My sons used it also until they were old enough to buy there own!
Nice coverage - Thanks. Looking at one on an online sale site right now. (in .243 - I think it was about $950 used. - I do not think they make them anymore in this caliber?)
I just bought a 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen for $600.00 with 3 boxes of Hornady ammo...not bad. I love these rifle..they are very accurate, fairly lightweight and easy to shoot.

What a great deal, my new 35 Whelen 7600 last season cost $900
I have a 760 carbine as my main Deer Gun. I've taken many deer with it.
Great video Jason. I own a 7600 rifle in 30/06 and a carbine in 35 Whelan. One thing though? Calibre is your carbine in? .308? Thank for sharing!
Been hunting with 7600 for 22 years never had a animal go 60 yards in 30/06 the gun is a beast
These are king of the woods in Northern Wisconsin. Usually in 3006. We have had 6 or 7 of them through my 18 years of hunting since I was 12. I think we have 4 or 5 right now in the safe. One in. 308, one in. 243 and a couple in 3006. My grandpa used one, my dad uses one, my uncles pretty much all used one... And I have a couple. I will usually take the 3006 or if it's a close up area I just use my AR with good sps. There's alot of history with these guns... Wish more people would review and try them.

I got my 760 Game Master when i was 12 dad always got me 180gr CoreLokt and they killed eveything i shot with it, and where ever the hell i hit them! I have used it sense, im now 33 and retired it last year, for one of my 7600's the 35 Whelen is an absolute Monster! It literally blew the smaller buck rite over, at 30 yards.

Love my 760 30-06, I also have my dad’s 141 35 rem love it was well.
I bought a 7600 3006 in 83 it was ok..I hit my second best ever rack with it running 4 out of 4 shots...I bought my 7600 carbine in 1996...it was a game changer...it was perfect in accuracy out to 200 yards..something special about it was first I only hunt public land..private is for women and children...second is I have never been hunting with it and seen a deer less than 8 points..yes I said I have never killed a deer with less than 8 points with it all on public land in Florida..3rd is I tested its accuracy with the federal premium HE bullets ..and it would shoot 1" or less at 100 to 200 yards...I made what I can prove is the perfect shot with it...in st Mark's wildlife refuge in Florida I saw a deer walking right to left...it had a good rack but I wasn't to impressed with it...obviously because it was much farther away than I thought...I couldn't see all 13 points...at the last second I shot and it looked hit..after a few minutes waiting and thanking the lord for a good buck I started down out of my tree lounge..I couldn't find blood or his track..i got back up and got down again back up and the third time I just knew he's hit..I just kept going farther away and finally found a broken fresh 1" pine sapling ..I thought o no..at that spot I went the direction he went and found 100s of tiny blood spots...I kept tracking at least a mile and when I got less than 50' from my trunk there he was..bloodless and dead and a 10 second drag to my tailgate...the only other shot that would have been better is if he would have ran and jumped into the bed of my truck and died.if I had not even looked for him I still would have found him easily because he was in the middle of my trail I walk in and out..I barely got a piece of his throat and he walked a mile to my truck

Did you know. There are two aftermarket magazines for this rifle? One is from Triple K and other other is the Lucky 13 magazine. Both are 10rds. The Lucky 13 is by Cleaver Firearms out of Australia.
Thank you so much! The review is awesome! Why didn't you get the 22 inch version for more power, range and lower kickback?

For the distances I shoot in Maine the couple less inches of barrel length doesn’t affect performance. I prefer the nimbleness of a shorter gun for the type of hunting I use it for
Yes Jason, good review. These rifles are actually in high demand in the northeast, worth more than what you paid for it.

good review, thanks for posting. I wish the new owners of Remington would bring back the Woodsmaster and the Gamemaster.
Not going up too much it seems like. Depends on the year. Just purchased a 760, #1 of 25 - 1952 first year made in . 30-06 pump and it was $799. Talk about an investment piece!
I don't believe these rifles are even produced currently. Remington went bankrupt and the arms division was sold off, recently started up production but only producing models 870 and 700.

I love my 7600. Shot many deer with it. Super accurate! I just wish I could still use my Williams peep sight, but these old eyes won’t let me. I use a leupold 1-4 shot gun scope with low a profile mount. It works great for fast target acquisition. I still wish I could use a peep though.

My dad has the model 6.
So yeah, peeps are great when complimented by see thru scope mounts for 150- 250 yard shots.
The only thing I don't like about the rifle is that after market left hand safeties are not readily available.

in my humble opinion the pump has two advantages over the semi auto model.....1. accuracy 2. reliability. have never owned a pump that did not eject flawlessly......can't say the same thing about my semi autos I've owned.
I have a 750 Carbine in 30-06. My son has a 7600 Carbine in 30-06. I'd like to find a 7600 in 280 Rem.
Did you end up changing the front sight post ? If so, what size did you go with ?
@JasonTome
Жыл бұрын
I use the OEM front sight with some nail polish to brighten it. Might try some gun glow this year
i think the reliability of these guns is a bit overstated ive seen several people short shuck the pump causing jams and FTF, its also a pain to clear a jam compare to a open top receiver bolt gun...the trigger sucks and the forend is sloppy ...they do carry very nice but so does a model 94....if i really needed a reliable, fast cycling gun for stalking brush i would use one of my .30 AR15s or even my howa mini action bolt gun
Good video!

Do you know why remington only put out the carbine in 30-06? I have a 7600 in .270 Win 22" barrel. I've been considering getting it cut to 18.5". Lots of mixed opinions online about pros/cons of cutting the barrel - lots of people say there will be excessive powder burning outside the barrel using 270, but also plenty of people saying they've done it. 270 and 30-06 are pretty similar cartridges, so why was the 30-06 the only carbine? 7600 carbines going for $1200-2000 in 2022 ......

The made a 308 and 35 whelen in the carbine ...
Is this a rehatched 760?
Were you influenced at all by the late, great Richard Bernier - the Deer Tracker himself ??
The 7600 is not as accurate as a bolt action though I know some that shot really well.. I think the 7600 is a woods deer and hog hunting rifle. A 220 grain soft point load in the 30-06 should bring game down fast and punch through brush a little better than lighter bullets.
I think it perfect
I have a 7600 rifle the only thing that I dislike is the trigger pull I think it is the same trigger as the 870 shotgun to much trigger movement or creep but it is a deer killing machine

Remington Ammo and guns are seperate now, The ammo part is up and running, i just hope the group that bought the Illion NY plant, where they make the Rifles, starts up and they do good, Remington is Americas oldest Gun Manufacturer we have, they are an American Icon like Apple Pie! but i did hear the Illion Plant burnt down? maybe destroyed the tooling??? OH MY i hope not! because if theirs hunters out there tracking deer, and not using a Remington 760, or 7600 then they dont know what their missing!
wrong on the hammer of the lever action the Savage 1899 was a hammer-less design.and most levers use with your dominate hand where in a pump its your offhand and it moves your sight picture worse buy moving the barrel and front sight around
@charlessmith4242
10 ай бұрын
* What do you think recoil does? Recoil moves the barrel and the front sight. By the way, it's the off hand that controls the barrel in order for you to obtain the correct sight picture.
