    I have had one in .30-06 for over 25 years. It came with a walnut rather than synthetic stock and right out of the box I was able to shoot sub MOA with it. I changed out the walnut stock for a B&C composite stock and had a gunsmith glass the bed and float the barrel. It still has the stock barrel and the trigger has been adjusted to about 2 lbs. My best 3 shot group at 100 yards was 0.26" ctc with my handloads. It is a superb rifle from the word go.

    I have 2 of these, .243 and .308. A couple minutes with a dremel tool grinding stone and those fore end tabs are history, and it’s free floated. Never had issues with my rifles.

    It worked on me. I wasn’t planning on buying a freedom group product, but there was good Black Friday deal on a 700 adl in .308 win and I figured the 700 is a proven design that’s hard to mess up. So far I’m not pleased with the accuracy. It’s shooting about 5 MOA from a rest with 180 gr core lokt ammo, and 165 gr sst hornady. I know it’s not the scope or mount, and it isn’t me considering that I got 1 MOA with my AR 10 on the same day, so I’m going to replace the stock with the magpul hunter stock and see what happens

    I have three that have been outstanding. I've heard rumors that Remington discontinued the ADL, but I've seen them continuously available at a number of venues over the last 6 or 7 years that I've been paying attention to them. I don't hunt, so I never found the blind box to be an issue. If I load 4 rounds, I will be firing 4 rounds. Negating the budget aspect, I replaced the synthetic stocks with some very nice CDL wood stocks that I got for a song and upgraded them. I could have gone with a box magazine, but I went with the traditional trap door.

    The most accurate rifle I ever had was a 30:06 ADL ! I bought it for that hammer forged barrel ! I didn’t like the action at all or the bolt as it mis fed pretty often, however I sighted it in for first shot accuracy ! I free floated the barrel but didn’t bed the action, which should not work but it sure did ????

    I like these entry level gun reviews and I’m actually curious about why you are one of the few reviewers who doesn’t turn up his nose at Savage. My local gun shops make me feel embarrassed to even ask about buying a Savage rifle and I’ve bought some dumb guns from them like a 500 S&W, a Glock 22 in a KPOS and even a Scorpion SKS. I’m a Vancouver guy if that helps and just a paper shooter and not a hunter anymore, (the supermarket is just too close and easy).

    Excellent! I don't like the cheap plastic trigger guard (yours cracked already!)...I would replace the cheap plastic stock and free float the barrel with a synthetic stock that has an aluminum gedding block. I have 2 ADLs from 1976 and 1993. I replaced the original wood stock with a HS Precision synthetic stock and a Mcmillen stock. I hunt with a Remington 700 in .270 Win for blackail deer, dall sheep, black bear, caribou and a Remington 700 in .300 H & H Magnum for moose. I like the internal (blind) magazine because one less thing to lose in the wilderness.

    I’d really suggest the 783 over this. It has a magazine that you don’t have to chamber rounds to unload the rifle. It also has an adjustable trigger and a free floating barrel. It’s also half the price. It’s kinda a nobrainer.

    Dick Blackbeard They're also a little more accurate than the base model Remingtons. My grandpa was hunting with this guy who had a 783 and he said that thing was pushing 1/2" groups. I'm not sure how accurate this one is but I'll bet it's not 1/2" moa

  • @MegaAppleshit

    @MegaAppleshit

    5 жыл бұрын

    You absolutely don't need to chamber the rounds to unload the ADL. Just push the bolt enough to pop the rounds out of the mag and tilt the gun to the side. Easy peasy. Mine also came with an adjustable trigger (I think. I never touched it because it was the perfect weight out of the box.) and I plan on buying a new stock anyway so the free float issue isn't really applicable to me.

    You don't have to rack the cartridges on the ground. You hold the rifle muzzle up and push the bolt forward to strip a round off the magazine but don't chamber it completely not turning it. Pull the bolt back and tip the round into your hand.

    As a comparison, the 700 action is far better than the 783 (which isn't a bad action itself). There's the biggest difference. Other small differences include steel sling studs verses polymer (plastic) and a more traditional shaped trigger guard. It's a budget 700. It's not a bad rifle - in fact, it's a good one and like most modern firearms today, shoots very well. As far as not having a hinged floor plate (or drop clip) goes, some might argue this lends rigidity to the plastic stock and certainly less entry points for dirt and moisture. I prefer the BDL with the floor plate but not having one doesn't make this a bad rifle.

    .223 chambered can shoot .223 only. .556 chamber can shoot both .556 and .223. Should be the same principle as the AR platform.

    Mine shot .75 MOA right out of the box with a walnut stock. When I switched the stock to a B&C composite and had the bed glassed and the barrel floated it went down to about .3 MOA. That may not sound like much but at 1000 yds it can mean the difference between a hit and a miss.

I was gonna get one for 310$ and mod it and pimp it out but not if its impossible or expensive to
