Remington 1100 Recoil Spring Nut Stuck
The recoil spring nut would not budge because it was completely rusted tight on the threads. WARNING : DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN IN THE VISE !!! My side release bars had to be re-stacked, luckily it went back in and stayed.

I bought an 1100 magnum from my neighbor. The gun was filthy, but in relatively good condition, so I did a deep clean, replace the o-ring and spring, and took it to the range, and the gun wouldn't cycle anymore ! I put the old spring (13 inch ) back in, back to the range, and the old girl ran like a sewing machine. That was 22 years ago, still shooting trap 20 to 25 times a year. My lesson learned, "If it's not broken. don't fix it" The gun certainly needed a cleaning and lubing, and to have the action spring nut cleaned and lubed, but I should have run with the original spring, and not tried to make it better.

I guess it got used to a 13" spring instead of the original starting 15" , I find that my guns are unique in their own way and will decide what it likes no matter how much we try to bend them to our will.
😎👍😎 I saw someone else with the same problem..he took a spade bit..for drilling holes in wood..probablt 1"..1-1/4"..then a piece of pipe around it..then went down into stock..pipe acts as a bushing to keep it aligned..then a pair of vice grips on the driver end..bear down on it .."should" remove nut without damage ..just a suggestion..dont follow my directions..im not a gunsmith..
Brownell's sells a special socket that fits the stock nut perfectly and drives with a 3/8" drive ratchet, breaker bar or impact tool. An Impact tool might work pretty ok to loosen a rusted one?
Thanks man , I Have the exact same problem, problem is it's Thanksgiving day and harbor freight isn't open.

I hope it worked out for you
Mine is on tight too. No rust but can't get it off.

PB break free or the WD40 super break free might work to loosen it if you let it sit for a couple of days. Sorry for the late response, I have been very ill the past year.
