Women's health issues are often brushed off in our society. It can be SO hard to get answers and good help. And when you're overweight, people make assumptions that you must just be lazy or eating poorly. Remi, sharing your experience is so helpful- thank you

I was diagnosed with PCOS almost 17 years ago. I have severe PCOS as well, excess facial hair growth and the whole shabang. I want to offer some hope to the ladies that want to have kids in the future (I’ve been off birth control for 9 years), my husband and I got pregnant fairly quickly. And are pregnant with number 3, we had a miscarriage with number 2 but we were able to get pregnant naturally. I know this is not the case for everyone and I pray everyone is able to in the future if they would like to. I did have complications with the first pregnancy, however I don’t know that they were PCOS related. I had preeclampsia but not severe. Praying for yall!

52:09 I have PCOS, Celiac disease, colon cancer, a heart condition, etc. I’m 30 years old and first started seeking help from my doctors when I was 14. The biggest thing I’ve learned to say when you feel a doctor is dismissing you is “please document in my chart that I asked for ___ and that you denied that for me”. 100% of the time, they immediately order that test/scan/ultrasound whatever. You are the one paying (an insane amount) for these services; you deserve to feel confident in your care and that your team is doing everything they can for you. Additionally, be sure to ask for a *differential* *diagnosis* if they are telling you it’s not something specific without backing it up with diagnostic tests.

I just want to say, Remi you’ve inspired me to finally schedule my doctors appointment to figure out what is going on with my body. I’ve related so much to everything you said involving your symptoms and how tired you feel no matter what. In the last 2-3 years I’ve gained weight consistently no matter how I’m eating or exercising. I was working out with a friend and she had actually been way less strict with her eating and she was dropping lbs, meanwhile I stayed exactly the same. It’s created such a horrible mindset for me and I can’t continue to let this affect me. So even though I’m not sure what I’ve personally got going on, I want to say thank you for speaking about your PCOS because you are inspiring others to vocalize their concerns with their doctors and not be afraid to stand up for themselves if they aren’t getting the right care! Love you both! 🫶🏼

i went to a specialist for endometriosis and luckly got diagnosed suuuper quickly and early stages. after going through lots of reddit threads and listening to remy it seems that going to a specialist (even if its super expensive and hours away) is the best thing you can do for yourself if you think you have any gynecological issues (pcos, endo, etc). i dont know if it’s because we’re women but our female specific illnesses are not taken seriously, addressed, or researched. I hope everyone finds healing and a specialist

Remi you are honestly amazing. Ive been going through some body issues. and my doctor mentioned 60% of female with PCOS are overweight, so most doctors dont look at the other 30% females who aren't. He told me I might have PCOS and thats why the other 3 doctors I saw did not think of it. Ladies please see multiple doctors if you feel you aren't being heard.

Remi - Thank you for sharing your story and experience! I am a newer listener (joined from Zane and Heath); however, I relate to your story in figuring out the root of the hormonal issues. I have been diagnosed then undiagnosed with PCOS 2x, and most recently have a new diagnosis of Endometriosis. I have had negative experiences with medical providers over the years, and recently switched to a new provider team which has been a breath of fresh air! I have needed to advocate for myself in these settings which has been extremely helpful, as well as asking questions and getting second opinions. I appreciate your sharing your vulnerabilities around the symptoms of PCOS as it helps me normalize my own insecurities.

I never comment, but this podcast meant so much to me. Remi you were diagnosed with PCOS the same time that I was. I was 18 and was told at the doctor because I was showing all the symptoms and looked online for understanding of it. I already followed you and you posted the video explaining that you were diagnosed with PCOS as well and it was a blessing to me to see someone else diagnosed with the same thing as me because I was feeling so alone. I have followed your journey while working on my own and it has meant the world to me that you talk about your experience. Thank you for being so open. I am now trying to have children and I as well have severe PCOS. I am praying over your journey and I love you both so much for talking about it! Thank you to Alisha too for being such a kind and supportive best friend! PCOS is hard to understand and can be horrible to deal with and having a supportive community is so important. I needed this conversation more than anything. I relate to every single thing Remi felt and experienced. I’m 28 and I’ve suspected I have PCOS since I was 22, but I’ve seen 3 different gynos since then and they all said “you probably do, but there’s no test for it” and they just put me on birth control with no explanation for why, but just said I needed to force a period every month or I wouldn’t be healthy. I quit the BC on my own about 2 years ago after the horror stories of the effects of long term BC, and subsequently stopped having a period. All this time I’ve been consistently gaining weight. So then when I had 3 periods in the last 9 months that lasted 2 months each, I finally decided to put aside my my gyno trauma and find someone for a consult and not stop trying new docs until someone would finally listen. I was blessed to find my INCREDIBLE gyno on the first try. I came in with 12 pages of handwritten notes about my whole health experience since puberty and requested to run every panel in the book. She verbally diagnosed me with PCOS right there and said the labs would confirm or deny the diagnosis, but she was pretty confident I did have it. I told her I needed to get my weight under control because I’ve been scared to go on vacation on an airplane due to being uncomfortable and having to ask for a seatbelt extender. I told her I needed to stop feeling like I wanted to take a nap after carrying my laundry basket up the stairs. I was SO NERVOUS to ask about semaglutide but she immediately said she thought I would be a fantastic candidate for it and she has had many patients with PCOS see tons of success with it. She also told me she was worried about the heavy extended bleeding, which led to a biopsy and then a surgery to confirm that my uterus has precancerous cells. I am now on treatment which will hopefully get rid of the cells and prevent them from turning into cancer and me needing a hysterectomy, when I’m not married and don’t have kids yet. I owe my doctor EVERYTHING. I am so glad I came into the appointment with a game plan and made it known what I wanted, what I needed and showed her I meant business because she took my concerns seriously which led to a diagnosis that likely has saved my ability to have kids in the future which I so desperately want. PCOS is such a common condition these days and symptoms begin at puberty or in high school for some girls and it needs to be taught in health class!!!! I am so glad we have options like semaglutide now to treat this condition and give me my life back! I heard someone say managing/losing weight with insulin resistance, whether it’s diabetes or PCOS, is a FULL. TIME. JOB. And I…was shocked at the accuracy 🤯 my biggest fear is passing along PCOS to my daughters someday, and I pray so fiercely that I don’t, but I am SO INCREDIBLY grateful that I am educated now and can advocate for their health early on if needed. Obesity doctors I’ve listened to online have said semaglutide and other GLP-1 meds have been around and they have been prescribing them to patients for over 20 years!! I was shocked at that realization because of how demonized they’ve become by the public and even some doctors who are set in their ways and not interested in learning new information and changing their minds. After my surgery when pathology confirmed the precancerous cells, I was referred to a gynecological oncologist and I told him I was working on a plan to start semaglutide with my gyno and he suggested I do gastric sleeve surgery before trying semaglutide because “GLP-1s are brand new and are known to cause cancer.” At that time I had done about 10,000 hours of research into GLP-1s, including reading a handful of medical journals that unequivocally denied the connection or link between GLP-1s and cancer. I was floored that he would say that, because obviously he either had a bias and didn’t do his research, or knew the truth and hoped I didn’t, so that I would schedule a $20,000 surgery with his buddy to do an irreversible surgery that for 75% of patients ends up in them getting on a GLP-1 after surgery anyway due to gaining the weight back. So obviously some doctors aren’t the best and I urge every single patient to DO YOUR RESEARCH for anything a doctor ever tells you. The internet is a WEALTH of knowledge and if you can’t find proof online backing up a doctor’s claims, it may be time to find a new doctor. Luckily when I went back to my beloved gyno and told her what the oncologist said and what I had learned in my research, she told me that she supported my decision to do semaglutide and reminded me that if it is not the right thing for me, the surgery is always still on the table and we can pivot. But I told her I didn’t appreciate him spreading unsupported/inaccurate information as if it was the Gospel Truth, and she agreed with me that he was inappropriate in saying that. Lastly, I teared up about the “you always used to say IF I have babies and now you’re saying WHEN I have babies” because this is me 😭 since I was 22 and learned about PCOS, I started saying IF I ever have kids because I thought I was actively participating in a lie saying “when I have kids” knowing that I would likely struggle if there was even a small possibility. I now have HOPE for the future that I will someday be able to take an everything shower without needing a nap afterwards and I will be able to fit on roller coasters when I go to my favorite place on earth, Disney World. I find joy in knowing I will have kids someday and that’s on GLP-1s. 🥲 Thank you so much for this conversation because 95% of people who don’t agree with GLP-1s are speaking about a topic they know absolutely NOTHING about. This conversation alone will be the seed that someone or many people need to take their life back. 🤟🏼

Also, I too struggled with an ED whenever I was a teenager in high school. I did the exact same thing. Less food, more exercise, to the point where I’d pass out at the gym and still go do more. I’d also count every single calorie that went into my mouth, even on holidays, and beat myself up if I ever strayed from it. Rem, you are so SO strong!!!

Thank you for making me not feeling alone ❤️ I always hated the fact that explaining that I have PCOS and insulin resistance, people just don’t understand!! So the fact that I was justified and can feel that others people feel the same way makes me so happy. 🌸 wishing you and all of us the best moving forward 😊

Thank you so much Remi & Alisha for talking about this! YOU are the reason I found out I had PCOS. I am still struggling to find a doctor to listen to me and take my symptoms seriously. I keep getting told to just take birth control but that isn't what I want. I am on a GLP1 currently myself & I also have yet to have a negative side effect.

It's been amazing to see the change in Remi! It gives me so much hope that I can have that energy and vibrancy she has now! I really appreciate Remi being open and talking about this because I've been experiencing almost the same things these past few years and couldn't understand what was wrong with me. I never thought I had PCOS since I've had fairly normal periods compared to my sister (who has PCOS). But now I realize it's on a spectrum so I definitely plan to bring it up to my doctor when I have insurance again 😅

Great for you, Remi. As a person with health issues and a special needs child, you have to be with the right doctors and be a part of the health care process. You, the pharmacist and doctors have to be a team. Yes, advocate for yourself and do it loudly if you're not heard.

I rarely ever comment on videos but I want to say a huge thank you to you remi because I too had a very similar experience with my own PCOS symptoms. At a young age I always blamed my body for not looking or acting a certain way. Almost two years ago now the symptoms were at an ultimate high and I remember seeing a vlog where you talked about your own diagnosis that ultimately led me to finally ask a doctor about potentially having PCOS. That started my own long journey where I ultimately got diagnosed with both endometriosis and PCOS and had to have surgery. Thankfully I’m a lot better now but for such a long time I didn’t realize the immense impact PCOS had on things other than just my weight. You so beautifully summarized other symptoms like mental health that I never realized for me were directly related. I just finished this podcast in tears because for once I felt so validated by my experience knowing that others have gone through it. I will be sharing this video with my friends and family for them to hopefully understand everything. Thank you for being so vulnerable and open about things like this because it really does make a huge impact.

I know this episode is mainly about PCOS but one of the reasons I feel so connected to Remi is because I empathize with her whole journey so much, I was bullied because of my weight throughout middle school/high school and at 17, I got tired and guessed the best way to deal with it was to cut down calories and exercise as much as I could, ultimately developing an eating disorder. In 2020 I gained most of the weight back and after a long journey of learning, today I'm in the healthiest relationship with my body, mind and soul. Hearing Remi say she's found "true peace with her body" literally made me teary eyed, because I know what that feels like and I can literally feel the peace in her eyes while telling her story. Sending big hugs to Remi and Alisha too ✨

(27:05)I immediately had to hit the pause button and jump over to the comment section. I ,also, was not getting regular periods in my late teenage years. Was taken to the doctor, prescribed birth control, and also not told that I have PCOS. Only a few months ago I found out that I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late teens. Recently was getting my Nexplanon removed, and that is when I was informed about the PCOS. For ten plus years I was living, and not fully understanding why my body was feeling the way it was. I’ve always been such a fan of Remi, and felt like I could relate to her in certain aspects of her life. However, more than ever I feel like I can relate to Remi! Thank you for sharing so much of your life with us. Especially in regard, to your PCOS journey. I feel like I’m only now hearing more and more women talk about PCOS. It’s nice to hear that you’re not the only one experiencing these things, and that you’re not alone. Thank you Remi 🫶🏼

I got diagnosed with insulin resistance and low iron and the moment I started medication I realized how awful I truly felt on a daily basis before. Not being tired all day or after eating was insane to me and knowing that’s how “normal” people felt on the regular was crazy and so validating, like Remi said.
