Remembering Sir Ken Robinson - An ARC Tribute

Sir Ken Robinson was an admired thought leader and important friend of the ARC Education Project. The Atlantic Rim Collaboratory (ARC - atrico.org/) is an international policy learning network that was established in 2016 to advance educational change based on eight guiding principles: equity, excellence, inclusion, wellbeing, democracy, sustainability, human rights, and professionally run systems. Headquartered at the University of Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) since 2019, ARC brings together senior public officials (i.e ministers and deputy ministers of education), professional association leaders (i.e. unions and inspectorates) and other key stakeholders from its seven education member systems (Iceland, Ireland, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Scotland, Uruguay and Wales), global partners (International Confederation of Principals) and international experts and scholars to discuss, debate and exchange knowledge about educational policy issues and to formulate responses suited to their contextsOne of the founding ideas behind ARC is to tear down the walls between countries and regions, as well as between educational researchers and politicians, in order to pursue the most fundamental ideas of what it means to be educated in today’s world for the mutual benefit of all ARC-systems and future generations of students worldwide.
Sir Ken Robinson gave one of the first ARC talks at the inaugural ARC Summit in 2016 in Iceland and was a frequent contributor. All of his ARC talks can be found here and ARC’s tribute “Remembering Sir Ken Robinson” can be found here. In this short session, representatives from three ARC systems (Iceland, Scotland, and Nova Scotia) as well as ARC President, Andy Hargreaves and ARC Director, Trista Hollweck share the impact Sir Ken Robinson made in their personal and professional lives.
Imagine if… Available Now
------------------------------------------
In his final years, Sir Ken Robinson was working on his Manifesto 'Imagine if... : Creating a Future for Us All' (now available: www.sirkenrobinson.com/imagin..., a searing new book that would serve as his manifesto on creativity and education. Written for both new and dedicated audiences alike, it’s a coherent overview of the arguments that he dedicated his life to, and a pivotal piece of literature for the education revolution he began. Shortly before he passed away, Sir Ken asked his daughter and collaborator, Kate Robinson, to finish writing this manifesto and to continue his work.
At its core, Sir Ken’s work is a love letter to human potential and a celebration of what we are capable of achieving and being as a species, if we create the right conditions. Imagine if... is a rallying cry to revolutionize our systems of education, and the ways in which we run our businesses and structure our social systems, to bring out the absolute best in everyone.

I didn't realize that Sir Ken Robinson had passed. I came across a podcast today and had heard him years ago and thought, Oh Great! After watching it, I went to his website and saw a video (YT) that was about education and the challenges of covid and all that was going on when he presented that content. I feel impacted by this loss even though I only knew him by watching his Ted talk and other videos. What a special man. The angels are lucky to have him to continue his teaching in the place where he is abiding.
