I really enjoyed this movie overall was really good, BUT LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, when this scene came around I was not fucking prepared for the shit that was about to happen. I mentioned the windows looked like the WTC windows earlier in the movie but my GF didn't say anything, towards the end I was really happy like man his life was finally picking up, I like happy endings, and than I started piecing shit together real quick in the end, I was like "OH GOD NO" "NO FUCK NO" fucking stood up out the bed and screamed at the TV and then after being hit in the face with probably the best plot twist I proceeded to cry like a little baby. 10/10 would recommend!

...Or because the point of the film is to help the audience realize that each and every person that died on 9/11 had struggles, triumphs, people that loved them...a life. You're supposed to get attached to the character, and then have him stripped from you so that you can experience a small fraction of what happened to the families of the real victims.

What ?That's the genius of it. That's how life is things are going well and then death comes out of no where. just like 9/11 that's the message of the story ''whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it because nobody else will' 'You once told me, our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch. Is that true for everybody, or is it just poetic bullshit?'' Also the story of his brother so don't tell me it came out of no where u half assed moron.

That doesn't make it a good plot twist just because 911 happened unexpectedly! The movie was not based on 911, why randomly throw it in there? It's disrespectful. You can't just randomly throw an historic American tragedy in as a plot device. What if you were watching Rocky and then bam, 9/11! turned out Rocky was training by running up and down their stairwells when Al Queada got him. What if you are watching Moana and Maui turns into the eagle to practice flying then bam! The eagle gets sucked into the engine of one of the 911 planes! Would you be then tell your kids oh yes, this is a good lesson because the real 9/11 was unexpected event just like this? It's bullshit

The ending wasn't added to be manipulative. The movie was in fact about 9/11. It showed us a life of a young man who tragically died in the attacks. It was meant for the audience to fall in love with a character and to have them leave suddenly-such as those families in real life. They didn't just say "Oh, how should we end this? I know! Let's kill him in the WTC!" They knew what they were doing, and they did it respectively, in my opinion. Very few movies can make me cry, but this one sure did.

  • @solarwest

This was an amazing movie. I was watching it with some of my family, and we saw the scene right before this and we all had this foreboding feeling. And then we saw the date on the chalkboard, and my mouth fell open, and my dad just went, "Oh no." and my mom said "Are you sure this isn't a Nicholas Sparks movie?" This scene blew my mind. Using 9/11 really drove the tragedy of his death home, because it was a real, actual catastrophe. But it almost seemed...profane, in a way. But it blew my mind.

  • @laughsleepplay

People need to realize that this entire movie was designed as a tribute to those who died on 9/11, it wasn't a marketing ploy for a good ending. It was a philosophical take on the importance of life. To say that everybody who died on that day has a story, they had a purpose, and that it is important that we remember the things that each one of them did, as well as not let our own lives pass us by because it's impossible to predict what is ahead of us.

this movie has so much foreshadowing that this will happen, for example when they’re out to eat and she says she always has dessert first bc you never know what will happen. The movie has such a good lesson that we shouldn’t take time for granted and that we should live every moment to the fullest. We should never wait to do something we want to do.

I see a lot of people say how the ending doesnt make sense or something of that matter. The movie conveyed exactly what it meant to. There were hints through the movie about how you have to take chances and live life because you never know what is going to happen. The ending shows how unexpected things can and will happen in life. The girls mom dying...his brother killing himself...then the hints on their first date (eating dessert first because if you die before finishing your meal, you wont get to enjoy the best part, dessert) and when she gets in the cab after the fair, she ends up kissing him because of him saying something like you never know what is next when you step in that car going down the long dark road. This movie made its point. It is a work of art in my opinion.

As someone foreign to the US this movie helped me connect emotionally with the tragedy, since in 9/11 centered media we never get involved like this with the live of someone before the tragedy and how it's lost in an instant. Here you get involved in the story and then the end is so sudden...JUST LIKE HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE.

i remember watching this part and i had my hands cupped around my mouth. i had to remind myself to breathe every 45 seconds smh the ending was a bit "rushed" imo. it was like they were desperately trying to to SOMETHING of significance in the end that would leave an impact on the audience. but the movie felt like it wasn't specifically made to depict the devastation caused by 9/11. it could have been any mishap for that matter- it felt like it was chosen simply because people held more sentiments for that particular incident.

The film didn't use 9/11 as an easy way out. The film was based around the ending; the screenwriter intended to base his plot around that event. You may feel cheated because the movie in itself remains unresolved. But it's supposed to for a reason. Many people who grieve for those following 9/11 would likewise feel cheated by forces they can't control. For me at least, I thought the director was simply trying to portray this feeling onscreen. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion though.

It's the fact all the way through the film you assume it's "the present day". Then suddenly he says his brother died at 22 and he would have been 28 that year and said the date he died was 1995. Gave me shivers :( You see him going to his dad's office at least 3/4 times, too. You just don't think it's WTC. Incredibly emotional. I almost didn't watch this film last night because Rob Pattinson is in it. Glad I did though.

I disagree, When 9/11 happened I was just a kid and to be totally honest it did not strike me as a particularly Earth-shattering event. I was about as sad about it as I was about Pearl Harbor or the Boston Massacre. When I watched this movie it went a long way towards humanizing the tragedy for me and I suspect it did the same for a few others.

Can you emagine, that there were thousands of people in this 2 skyscrapers, and each of them, had nearly a same history like Tyler in the Film? So many people with such wonderful lifes and a wonderful family like Tylers. And if you imagine that they've been so damn beautiful and special. And they all died at one place, at the same time, thousands of people with amazing characters, just because of 2 other people, and now nearly nobody knows what amazing history all of them had.

cont...that was powerful and yet quiet. They did such an amazing job to show that day, by not having any foreshadowing, and by not showing the towers being hit or falling or showing Tyler and the people in the buildings while they were burning. I can speak for my self and alot of america by saying that I did not now anyone in those towers that day, so when i think about it i really do just see statistics and faceless numbers. However with this film I know the characters, you see them happy...

While I can understand the angst that some people exhibit when watching this ending, the true intentions of the movie were to shine a light on ONE individual life amongst the thousands. Although it may be a work of fiction, the director wanted the viewers to understand the beauty of human life--and the richness the lies within it. After viewing this film I immediately thought of all the lives lost on that day with new found remembrance and respect.

***** I really don't think it's rude to the people who lost their love ones there. I think it's brilliant ending. They don't show anything, still you can feel the pain. It's not about Tyler's dying it's beyond that. It's about how everyone who died that day in that towers or airplanes, had story behind them. It doesn't matter if it's sad or it's happy.. it's about story. It's about other people. It's about how EVERYONE in that tower who died that day had someone who miss them and every single one of them had a story. It's not sad because Tyler dies in the end,it's sad because that really did happen. Maybe that wasn't some Tyler guy,nor similar guy,but it's about person. Tyler, like everybody else in that towers, was just a person. And I think that what this movie is about. It's not about Tyler's sad story and him falling in love with Ally,it's about story. Everyone had their own story. Who knows, maybe there was a guy like Tyler who died in that tower,or maybe not. It doesn't really matter. What it matters is that attacks did happen and people died. Lots of them...and they shouldn't. That is just my opinion....

The writer of the film was affected by 9/11 and used the film to show how it affected those directly involved even more. They hinted the ending many times throughout the film also its not like it just came out of nowhere. I knew from the first scene it was an early 1990s-2000s based film.

The actors said it was paying homage to the real people in those buildings who never got out and had their own stories to tell. Have their futures destroyed. Robert Pattinson and Pierce Brosman are British. It would have been foolish so close to that tragedy to mock it. Be fair. Pattinson produced it and he doesn't seem to be a mean person. His actions with his girlfriend prove that. I think he's a, "half-full" kind of person. He should have waited to release it. All Americans will always be sensitive about this subject because it was such a cowardly thing to do to innocents.

I don't think people have issues about showing the characters as if they weren't expecting anything. People are ticked off with the fact that this movie, entirely fictional, takes advantage of the situation that day and introduces a disturbing image that occurred in reality in order to add dramatic effect to a completely fictional story.

Yeah? To me it was completely the opposite. It gets you so into the characters, the lives, the things that were going on in the time period. You get attached to the families and how things were. Then the end comes, without warning. It stands for every life taken, it makes you realize, people didn't just die that day, peoples lives changed, forever. No matter what is going on in life, some things aren't planned. Nothing last forever, you just have to appreciate the things you have now.

Then made my mom watch it and she was SOOOO PISSED at me for making her watch it, she literally stormed off the living room when she realized what building it was. She then went into the terrace which we were remodeling, she wouldn’t look at me and told me to shut up when I tried talking to her. She kept painting angrily some pillars we had. It was freaking hilarious!!! Her reaction of course, the movie is still f-ing sad.
