Remastered footage of Castle Bravo 15 megatonnes of TNT (1954 )

Фильм және анимация

Castle Bravo was the first in a series of high-yield thermonuclear weapon design tests conducted by the United States at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, as part of Operation Castle. Detonated on March 1, 1954, the device remains the most powerful nuclear device ever detonated by the United States and the first lithium deuteride-fueled thermonuclear weapon tested using the Teller-Ulam design. Castle Bravo's yield was 15 megatonnes of TNT (63 PJ), 2.5 times the predicted 6 megatonnes of TNT (25 PJ), due to unforeseen additional reactions involving lithium-7 which led to radioactive contamination in the surrounding area.

To think the soviets detonated a 50 megaton device. Bravo was "just" 15. 😮

Tsar Bomba could of been 100 megaton but it was detonated at half strength. In reality the tsar bomba was useless because only delivery method was by bomber so it was more of a threat to Europe than the USA

Great channel. Castle Bravo circa 15MT, the Tsar Bomba 50Mt which was a massive detonation but originally was destined to be 100MT..!

I often wonder if the reason the films of bravo are so much better than the other castle tests (and other h bombs) is because they were closer than they other wise would have been had they known it was 15 megatons and not 5 or whatever they were expecting. The films of romeo and Yankee (tested after bravo) are crap compared to bravo and they were relatively close in yield.

The expected yield of the TX-21 SHRIMP-device was 6MT.

That's an intriguing observation. Seems plausible, but I'm not too sure. My aunt knows a lot about this stuff (photography, but I believe it's similar enough), so I will try to remember to ask her the next time I speak to her. I'm not familiar with the footage of the other tests. You may wish to see if the footage is catalogued in the library of congress, as their record would specify type of film, possibly camera, etc

Evaluating the quality of them on KZread is possibly problematic because we don't know the quality of the source video, etc.

Castke bravo in my opinion was the scariest of all atomic tests due to the amount of fire and the way the cloud formed. The tzsar bomba was masiive in the formation of the perfect mushroom cloud but it didnt seem that scary to me
