    Along with my '06 Remington 7400 for hunting, the .308 in AR10 is another favorite in my collection. Have handloaded both with IMR-4350 for thirty years. These two are the cornerstones for developing other cartridges as far as I'm concerned.

  • @DummyRound

    @DummyRound

    Жыл бұрын

    That's pretty cool. Where'd you find data for 4350 in 308? Seems slower burning than the typical burn rate. Maybe you have really heavy bullets?

    @@DummyRound The guy who mentored me in handloading over thirty years ago used it with 180 grain soft point bullets, as a pet load. He loaded up some for me. I've used them ever since on deer and hogs. They go bang when I pull the trigger, and I'm usually dragging something outta the woods. I don't ask for much more than that from my .308.

    Awesome 👌 I wish they listed data for more powders in specific cartridges, even if they seem too fast or slow to be "ideal". Show me some outliers and extremes of the spectrum to see what we can safely get away with, though aren't perfect on paper👍👊🇺🇸

    @@DummyRound I know. Hell, my guy never owned a chronograph in his lifetime of 84 years. Neither could he explain "standard deviation", or "cartridge efficiency" if his winter supply of freezer venison depended on it; which it didn't. But he knew where to find 'em, and what it took to bring one home!

    Been reloading the .308 since the 70s ..with any reload,change only 1 component at a time when determining the most accurate load..keep records..different bullets shoot differently out of different rifles..don't dwell on accuracy at the onset,find the load(powder grains) that groups the best,then accuracy can be improved with scope adjustments..don't exceed pressures when loading..limit brass to 2 or 3 reloads at most..teach someone the art of reloading while you reload..might save you $ ,but you get to shoot more often,so don't expect it to save you much

    I've got brass that I've reloaded over 20 times and they still hold the primer just fine and the brass resizes just fine, Trick is to resize every 3 or 4 firings, anneal and occasionally neck size only.

    @David R ..brass is relatively to get..whether new or shot once..its not so much the prep work on it that is my not reloading it past 3x..every time it's fired the brass gets stressed and thinned..I've got lots of brass..heck,reload 100 new or once fired 3x and that's a lot of rounds I get to shoot..deer hunting I may shoot half a dozen x if I've got the doe tags..long time before I put a dent in my reloads..so personally, I recycle it after 3-4× ,just to play it safe..to each his own though..remember, you can't have enough ammo on hand..happy reloading and FJB

    @@kenmaurer4743 I'm not a hunter, I just target shoot (100-1500 yards). I don't know where you live but used range brass does not exist in my neck of the woods. Online? If am lucky, I can find it new or used but I'm not going to nor do need to pay the price they are asking. I have soooo much brass that I won't reload the same case for years. When the weather permits, I shoot 500+ round per week. The stress on rifle brass after just 3 reloadings doesn't exist unless it's really crappy brass or you are charging your loads to max and beyond. Annealing is cheap and easy the way I do it but it is very tedious. That's why I only do it about every 4th firing. I also neck size only about every 4th time. If you use your brass only 3 times, then put it in buckets and send it to me, I buy them from you at a fair price. I'll obviously pay shipping, taxes and associated fees. No need to clean, de-prime, or resize. P. S. Yep never enough ammo until the ATF shows up!! They gonna freak out with what I got. Reloading/shooting is all I do. I'm retired and this not a hobby to me it's my obsession/passion.

    It’s videos like this that made me go broke and think reloading was going to be fun fast and easy! 😂😂😂 It is fun! But it’s definitely not fast! And not easy at first. Not for someone with ocd tendencies. Much faster with new brass but definitely not used brass! The cleaning, drying, annealing, resizing, re-cleaning, trimming, chamfering, deburring, then comes the priming, charging, seating and ready to start load development. All of that fun stuff and much more, but that’s assuming you can source all the components! 😂
