Relive Office Hours with Professor Chomsky on his birthday, Dec 7!

Chomsky, UA laureate professor in linguistics and Agnese Nelms Haury Chair, is one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world and the founder of modern linguistics. Chomsky is credited with revolutionizing the linguistics field by introducing the Chomsky hierarchy, generative grammar and the concept of a universal grammar, which underlies all human speech and is based in the innate structure of the mind and brain. An ardent free-speech advocate, Chomsky is famous for his political commentary and has published and lectured widely on U.S. foreign policy, Middle Eastern politics, democratic society, war, environmental destruction, and media criticism.
This event is co-organized by ASUA and the UA College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Support comes from the Agnese Nelms Haury Program in Environment and Social Justice.

@@imgayasheck595 you shouldn't think that only happens to reactionaries, Bernie Sanders got smeared as a misogynist by Clinton supporters even though he's anything but, and Chomsky in the past wrote an article defending a professor who got fired for questioning the Holocaust, and Chomsky defended his free speech even though he didn't agree with the guy, many college students these days might consider that as Chomsky defending hate speech, though they'd be wrong.

I am sure it was not an open forum. No-one challenged him on anything. If opened up there would be a lot of people of all kinds to attend. It was set up by the student association whose mission is to serve, engage and empower the student body through advocacy, and resources, and the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Chomsky never debates anyone, I think he had like two debates, and once or twice went on William F. Buckley Jr show, and once on the Alex Jones show, so his opinions are only challenged by others challenging his ideas. That said he is a very smart man who has done a tremendous amount of research, but Anarchy is what he describes, which is really not Anarchy, but a collective group with has a say in governance.

  • @Wilson_Mccartney

BWreSlippySlope 🤨🤨🤨 this was by far the strangest reply I’ve seen. I know it’s not an open forum. My point is, I’m sure there are a helluva lot more students that could’ve attended that event than what showed up. And why should he or would he waste his time debating people who-if they’re anything like that pompous shitbag Buckley-will be disingenuous and talk over him the whole time?? Chomsky’s time on earth is limited. He should only talk to genuine people who have legitimate questions for him at this point and want to learn. Not debate things he’s already been proven right on.

he's with the dark side, posing as a jedi. Chomsky is a gatekeeper for the oligarchs, will bitch about "capitalism" at length but obfuscate on the central banking system, JFK, 9/11 etc. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d3l4yJmIm7WpqM4.html

@@tinapatton7346 Chomsky skirts the key issues, like the Fed debt-based usury monetary system, or the nature of the deep state, offering vague analyses that boil down to "capitalism bad". He's the definition of a gatekeeper, packaging 90% truths in order to hide the big 10% lie.

I first heard the name Norm Chomsky from Leonard Berstein's norton lectures. It was a wonderful way to get introdution to linguistic. In orwel 1984, there is "Standard English" as there is truth but new speak would issue new phrases, new words to bent and eliminate what is true from public attention.

It's the mystery that makes life worth living, if we knew everything life would be rather boring. That there are great mysteries - ensures that as long as our species survives it's organic life, life will remain interesting... The great mysteries, perhaps are a form of our organic perceptions that are just learned and observed, and as such tell we are able to function on a higher level of consciousness and awareness of our collective unconsciousness thought, it is highly un likely that we will even begin to understand the great mysteries, because it's based on thought.. Btw certain types of meditation is all about not thinking and moving into oneself with a non mental non thinking clarity. And then there are dreams.... Happy birthday Noam nice office hours talk - very very different from your other talks....

After thoughts - as we enter the 7th Kingdom of life/biology - or the Techneum as its starting to be called - and we attempt to merge with, and emerge within it, there is some possibility we might survive, but my feeling is that our technology will fail us do to our economics. Regarding the unspoken truths within academia - I leave this multiple platitude : "Only fools go where angles dare to tread - but the fool who persists in his folly becomes wise, - in nature is the way, and in the way one finds oneself a connection to everything , sometimes the simple things are the hardest to understand, as in balance within one self and the external world.... and for what it's worth: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lWGBwc2PirfMZZM.html
