The ancient relief sculptural technique involves creating 3D elements that remain attached to a 2D background of the same material, resulting in sculpted motifs that are raised from the surface. Bas-relief is when the motifs are only slightly raised above the surface. With a revival in appreciation for tradition and handmade crafts, these techniques are once again flourishing and being rediscovered by a new generation of artists and craftsmen.

There’s literally a video of an Asian girl making almost this identical wall sculpture of the Great Wall of China painted and everything. One of them for sure copied the other, I wonder who did it first 🤔 Update: I have now seen several more similar videos. I guess this is more common than I initially thought. Still cool as heck though
