Just bought a one owner 06 5.9. Great video, planning on some of these mods for my truck.

Excellent 3rd gen budget upgrades video. Keep the 3rd gen content coming! The graphs look very linear in load and timing. I've learned efi is only as good as the tuner behind it. Nice work guys..

Agreed. EGT's and Torque make a big difference when towing. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram Cummins with the same 48RE transmission upgrades with one exception; I included a Mag Hy-Tec deep pan on the trans to help with trans temps since the trans did run about 20 degrees F hotter due the increased line pressures. I tow a goose neck flatbed hay trailer with total weight at 16,500 lbs. My EGT's run at 1,125 degrees F uphill. One thing you didn't mention is gear ratios impacting towing with managing EGT's and exhaust system. My truck has a 3.73 rear axle gearing, with a 4" straight pipe exhaust (to keep EGT's down). Excellent video!

Intercooler, intake horn and turbo upgrades lower egt’s and increase power and you can get hear studs to support those mods for 500$

I had a stock '06 3500 CTD with a 6-speed manual. Best motor/tranny truck combo I've ever had. That rig just ripped in 4th and 5th. And it got an honest 22+ mpg on the highway. Great rig - should have kept it....

Really like how good those tow tunes are as my truck is pulling a trailer 90 percent of the time for work! I need to get a tune now knowing it'll be safer egts pedal to the floor than stock.

You guys always impress me and I ❤️ your videos. Lots of good info, and not a bunch of stupid shit, like "we put a super chips on my truck and made 1,000hp" clickbait bullshit. Always good, honest content and you are slowly getting me to like Dodge's...which I never thought I'd say. Hopefully I can buy my brother's 99' 24v here someday soon.

You guys should do this for the 47re as well! Though I know 48re very close to it, it'll help clean up some of the confusion about the TV cable and weak points in the 47re trans.

Impressive. I not a automatic transmission tech , I been told that the 48 has a bigger front pump and more capacity so adding that to a build on the earlier transmission might help pressure at lower throttle . That and the leaks that are fixed or reduced by the better parts that you installed . I was told to use the 727 filter so that what I use. I know one else would agree but I use 10 wt oil in my transmission for the last 150k miles and it seems to give better fluid coupling butt dyno lol . I did replace the broken anchor in my friend truck when he lost second gear. What a piece of crap lol . Thanks for your videos always like to learn

I am a Duramax guy and I have a built trans but I still don't really understand the concept of line pressure aside from that more pressure can hold more power. That would be a great video to see.

@@pddofficial Yes I watch every video at least twice that yall put out. I would love for Will to let me come to yall's shop and get first hand experience with the dodge trans. No one around southeast Oklahoma knows how to rebuild a transmission. I would love to learn all I can.

Joe Dirt if you can, get a lift pump first thing mostly for filtration might as well get it out of the way for future upgrades. But for a cheaper solution just do a cat fuel filter kit or for a even cheaper option replace the fuel filter with a baldwin pf7977

Geez I’m kicking myself now! 😖. I wish I had ditched my smarty tuner and went with EFI live. When I changed my injectors, I went with +50hp injectors (not sure what nozzle size / config these were), and with the tuning, I was not happy with my EGTs. I never pushed my truck past 1,300 degrees, but on a hot day in Texas and a hot tune, I could hit 1,300 on a run from 70-95 mph.

I recently found out about You guys a couple months ago. I have been a Diesel Tech on fleet equipment for about 15 years now. You guys are very knowledgeable and I learn alot from Your videos. I definitely subscribed and I look forward to the new vids Yous put out. You guys are the highest, knowledgeable, Dodge - Cummins techs on KZread, far as I am concerned. I am not brown nosing LOL, but stating facts as I see it. Anyway, can You guys do a video like this, that addresses the weak spots in the 68RFE ? It will also be great if You guys can show videos like this with the 6.7 Cummins.

Ok let’s make another video. On your 06 24 valve common rail tow rig. Install a pulse exhaust manifold, a VGT turbo, the trans upgrade, and a tuner to control the exhaust brake on the turbo. Now does the trans upgrade help hold the load back on the downhill? Now how much turbo can you give me and use a VGT design? What kind of HP/ Torque can you make? Sometimes it’s not about the race, it’s about climbing the hill and saving the brakes.

Love this video! I have a 07 5.9 bone stock 120xxx miles. With a smarty. Whats an upgrade like this cost diy and if you do it? And whats the next step up. Tork inverter, flex plate.

The on the fly style tuning kind of makes me want to get rid of my 12v and get a newer model truck

Great video! I have an 06 3500 ccsb with g56. I have an s and b air i take, mbrp high flow 4 inch, and cat fuel filter adapter. I do have an edge evolution aswell... What egt should be max? Any recommendations on the tuner settings as I can do "custom settings" per tune?

I have a chance to buy a 2006 ram 2500 with the Cummins and it needs the transmission rebuilt. I was thinking of upgrading the transmission during the rebuild and upgrading the torque converter for towing and daily driving. Then a mild upgrade on tuning like you did on this video. I want the transmission to last as long as the engine, forever! Do you sell tunes and parts or just do in shop work?

You guys better be running AMSOIL in all your stuff. Everything else is 2nd rate!

Excellent video! I wish efi was available for my 2005. Eventually going to go with hp or mm3 tuning for it. Plan to put compounds on it. Any fueling mods I would need for a 366/480 combo? It's an nv5600 truck. Stock as they come.

Thanks for the reply, I will look into the different packages, I might not go that high to start with, was looking at the larger turbos to allow it to grow in hp in the future. Goal is 600 plus at this point.

@@bagged1998 for 2nd gear lockup u have to block a passage way off in the valve body I used job weld. For 1st gear theres something to do with switching around the converter timing valve but yet to firgue it out no one will spill the beans.

Very interesting. I've got a 2012 3500 6.7 what can I do along these same lines ? I'm not sure if I have the good transmission or not I need to find that out.

Are the torque converters as much of a weak point in the 68 rfe ? I'm very interested in what you come up with for my generation truck I hope you do a video like this when you have a package available ? I have an EFI live tuner and switch but have been hesitant to get it on the truck and get tunes for it because nobody else explains what they do like you have done. I feel very confident in your abilities after this video. I like the real world towing tunes and power gains you showed. And if I can make my transmission live without having to spend $10,000 on it I'd buy it. Do you include the delete in your tunes? I would very much like to get rid of the exhaust regurgitation into the engine at the same time.

like the vid BUT would have liked a quick talk about the valve body mods IE is it a "shift kit" with changing springs / balls OR actual porting and other mods to the body casting itself and if it is a kit do you well the kit?

48re swap

level 5 tuning didn't make more HP than stock tuning torque. The scaling is different, torque dropped to just about 450 lb ft.

How much did you charge for this service? I have an 06 with 390k miles. I am planning to replace the injectors with 30% over 90hp injectors. Stock lift pump, stock filtration and stock CP3 pump, Also considering upgrading the turbo to the 6.7 style VGT. How much would you charge for a efi live tune?

You'll have to upgrade the stock lift pump. They cant handle a lot and once you upgrade, your lift pump cant keep up and will take out your injection pump

@@pddofficial No I am in a 4wd with a 6SPDR manual. Stock wheels and tires. Just a k&n intake and 5 inch afe exhaust. My friend got 23 to 25 with his 06 2500 4wd with 33 inch all terrains. But he had a tuner was the only difference. On these particular trucks, are the stock files on a manual different than an automatic?

@@pddofficial are the 425arp head studs Worth it or the 625? I want something for the insurance purposes I don't tow that much and when I do it under 15k. I'll be doing a ghost delete.where everything is welded on the egr system on the head and the 🐈 is punched out.

This truck would be like 20K in Germany. Guess what I am about to buy.

I called DPD and they do not offer these parts as a kit. You have to send in your valve body and pay for the service and parts.
