Reliable method to upload via usb to the Haas vf3

Ғылым және технология

With you guys, the viewers help and great response to the first usb problem video I have found a reliable way to get my fusion 360 .Nc files from the pc onto the Haas vf3 using my usb floppy emulator, its not 100% perfect but i think its as good as it is going to get and to be honest it does exactly what i need it to with the minimal amount of fuss
Thanks for all your help with the comments on the previous video, and hopefully this will help others in the future too

An update on something you mentioned - renaming the file, you said the file copied to the clone floppy disk you couldn't change the extension .NC. You can right click on the file and open the properties for the file. You can change the extension in there, it will grumble and tell you the world will end if you change the extension etc (typical windows) but you can do it.

my client had got his machined switched to a gotek or similar floppy emulator I was able to get it working by purchasing 2.0 4gb usb drives then I formatted the drives to fat format after I had to use this software called Floppy Emulation Manager Tool V3.500 then I was able to format that usb into a 1.44mb usb drive which seems to make it think it’s still a floppy and let’s it communicate with it with no issues I’m able to read and write into the usb drive.

Hi Thanks for the info, it seems my main issue with numbering and naming was down to the floppy software version on the machine, but i had done exactly as you said and ised the same floppy emulator software it just seems my software version still did not like it but after all that i did work out a solution so all is well Thanks Marc

@@kinzy_fabrications I learned new ways to open files, thanks. I entered a comment on your previous video twice on what works for me, but I guess KZread wouldn't post either one was at 6am cst the other was at 12p cst. You have always replied to my comments so I went back to verify there were issues. KZread is both awesome and terrible. End of my ranting, thanks for teaching me a new trick.

Hi Glad that worked for you, yeah I have checked but couldn’t find the comments, I try to reply to everyone who takes the time to respond to a video, it must be a KZread issue as sometime the number of comments stated on my videos doesn’t match the actual number of comments when I read through so some obviously go missing or get randomly filtered out? I can only use RS-232 on my ancient '91 VF-1. v12.1 ? (USB to 232 adapter in the laptop) Even it gives me fits once in a while. I did add a DB-9 To the side of my pendant and ran a cable to the rear board to make life easier. I had to mess with all the settings to finally get connectivity. DTE/DCE, x-on, x-off etc. Fyi, the "EOF" alarm means End Of Frame.

I have two identical 1997 VF3 machines emulator works fine on one but I've never been able to get it work properly on the other either it throws alarms or transfers programs all corrupted.. I've replaced it as well as different USB sticks it's got to be an issue with the control.... I've since just went to using RS232 way faster anyways 🙃

Why not connect the cnc machine's to a local network, where every machine can pick up there program from, then you don't have to mess around with usb sticks.👍😎

Hi I’m afraid I’m not sure what you need to do regarding software to enable the floppy option or whether you Have to get the unlock code from Haas What happens if you try and change the BIT from a zero to a 1 in the parameters

Great Job on all the videos!!! Also I think you have found a software bug in the os of that version. i would guess that the disk format has something to do with the file name corruption in the dir listing, if you call HAAS and give them the serial of the machine they would know if that is a known problem and any work arounds. The SYSTEM~1 is a directory generated during a disk format or file write on a win10 system and can be ignored. 11/28/2022 01:24 PM SYSTEM~1 System Volume Information i would suggest to save the file as O71234 or whatever numbers you want and no extension that might work, also the first character in the file name is a O not a zero just like the in the start of the file header, never use O9?????? that's for the system files on a haas, I have a 1991 vf1 and a 2001 vf2 and that’s how i do it on the vf2 sw version 12.?? to edit the extension of a file in win 10 - open file explorer and select view and check the show file extension box and it will show the .ext's in the file list and let you change them to whatever you want ie .nc .txt or nothing, just don't play with the system files on the C: drive Mitch

Hi So I have tried what you say this morning and it did not work, I found the option in w10 under the view tab to show file extensions and I removed the .Nc but that did not work, I also tried renaming the file as the internal file number for example the letter O12345 and the letter O1234 but neither 4 or 5 digit names would show either. Also I tried renaming as a .txt file but that didn’t work either so maybe as said it is just a software bug Thanks Marc

In windows, in the folder, click the view menu, then check off "file name extensions", then you'll be able to see the .NC extension, and you'll be able to remove it. I think once you remove the .nc extension, it will show up much easier on the machine. You need to turn off all the "helpful" windows stupidity that hides the full filename in attempt to make computers "easier".

@@kinzy_fabrications Any windows explorer folder - you can do it where you export the NC file from the post processor, or you can do it on the USB drive. You should actually change that setting for all folders so you can see the full filenames with extensions everywhere on your computer. I mentioned it in my comments on the other video too, but I primarily use Linux, so wasn't sure where they moved that option to now - I checked on my work laptop today which is windows 10, and it's now on the toolbar when you click the "view" menu - it used to be buried in the folder display options dialog box. Every version of windows now they seem to needlessly move all those settings around.

@@kinzy_fabrications That's really really bizarre. Like other people have mentioned, have you tried contacting Haas and asking them if there's some weird bug with that version of the software on that machine? That seems like there's a real issue in the software reading files from disks in that version or something (but knowing Haas, they'll probably charge you an arm and a leg to upgrade the machine from the ancient version to a slightly less ancient version). If you have a working method, that might just be the best to stick to that, as weird and inconvenient as it is.
