If you have become allergic to an artificial nail product or product leaching, a kind of cornification takes place between the lower part of the nail plate and the nail bed. This is called Hyperkeratosis. Onycholysis always accompanies hyperkeratosis in the nail unit.
Hyperkeratosis in the nail unit is difficult to treat because of where it is.
