Yes, the goal is to care for the manufactured hair so it doesn’t break, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy! That’s like saying weave is healthy. It’s over. All you are doing is maintaining it

a wig/weave is not hair that is still attached to a human scalp and still alive. So the comparison don't make sense.@@deealia2568
I have been relaxing my hair nonstop from the time I was 9 years old. I will be 56 next birthday. I have a full healthy head of hair. I have never worn braids or wigs. I relax my hair every 8 weeks. I wash my hair every weak and deep condition every other week. I take a regimen of vitamins and I eat healthy. I also get regular trims. I have absolutely no problems with my hair. Its cheaper to maintain and less fuss. My mother had it relaxed because I had plenty thick hair and she has problems combing it. At the start of menopause I had breakage and I just cut it into a shorter style until grew back out. There is no debate about relaxed or natural. You just have to do what is right for you.

As a natural hair content creator, I have to say people are honestly so different. When I was relaxed, I always had my hair ‘done’ because I was bored of the constant ‘packing style’. Now I’m natural, I have sooo many styles to explore and i rarely get added hair even when I style it. But my norm 70% of the time is THE PUFF! Yes girl😂 I’m over here puffing my whole life away! Lol but really everyone is different, just do what works best for you and enjoy the journey. ❤

I used to be relaxed my whole life and decided to go natural during Covid lockdowns because I felt adventurous 😂 Now I don’t really see myself going back. I feel like relaxed hair is pretty high maintenance too because you always have to keep up with the relaxer touch ups and make sure to find a way to keep your hair from shedding excessively(which I was not good at 😅) I’m honestly more of a lazy natural, just wash my hair once every 1-2 weeks and leave it in a protective style. That’s what works best for me. At the end of the day, relaxed or natural you still need to make some kind of effort in taking care of it. Just do what’s best for you 😊
plss not the indomie lmao. i am glad you've found what works for you, Kamsi. as someone who has also found "their hairstyle" within the last year, i am an unofficial advocate for doing whatever tf you want. people will always have something to say. i have and LOVE my buzz cut and some folks (including family sometimes) won't stop asking me where my wigs are. let's all just do what works for us jare
I relax my hair 2-3 a year. I even use natural hair products to still take care of my hair. My hair grows really well and fast. I think most people should get to know their hair type (not just 4c kinda thing ) but how fast you hair get dry, your scalp etc.

I do twice a year as well. I use natural hair products too. I'm almost at mid back length. Relaxed hair grows too. Retention is key
Oh my gosh Kamsi! You hit the nail on the head. I used to never carry my actual hair out and always hid it under wigs. My hair wasn’t healthy back then but I started educating myself and being intentional with my routine and my hair started thriving. I started wearing it out more and that’s when I observed that Nigerian ladies and men alike think it’s awkward for you to not have any extensions. I remember someone once asked if I never “made my hair” for religious reasons. I was like haaa!!

I was contemplating stopping relaxers as I have only had 2 starting last year and want to be healthier but the maintenance involved and how I just want to look DONE out the shower very minimal work involved has me reconsidering 😀
When I was still on relaxed hair, I leave my hair for 6months before I relax again so I just relax my hair just twice in a yr. It helped me retain lenght. But I notice my hair was shedding too much at a time so I decided to go natural
I love my natural relax ponytails that’s my signature . It’s so timeless and classy
I love that you mentioned about the comments of “having your hair done” I love wearing my own hair in a low bun and feel my most beautiful that way! We are able to Show our features! And you look beautiful with your hair like that! ❤
Love the new background! Amazing video Kamsi. I relaxed my natural hair last year and its the best decision i've made. I don't regret it at all because its alot easier for me to manage and manipulate my hair now. I'm able to do more styles. I stress less about how my hair looks. There's more versatility. I’m 48 and my “hairstyle” since high school has always been a bun or ponytail too. It compliments my face the best. Even when I wear wigs it’s in a low bun or ponytail.
Your hairstyle compliments your beautiful skin and features. You look amazing
We shed on average 80-100 strands daily. As you mentioned in your video, you wore your hair 90% of the time in protective styles. Therefore, it was hard for you to notice the shedding.
Your hair looks awesome. I had a relaxer since I was 18. I have been natural for two years and I am fed up with how much work it takes for ME being natural. I think I'm going to get my hair relaxed. Not because straight is better, it is just so much easier.

Exactly. My hair is a lot too. I just prefer to relax. I totally understand why my grandma and mum kept it relaxed and it was always healthy and beautiful. I’m just not with keeping it natural it costs me more money because some people’s hair isn’t as thick they use less of the product. I use three times as much which makes it expensive to maintain it natural. I love it relaxed and will continue to. I’m going for a pixie cut. I had a baby 8 months ago and my hair has become rogue 😂😂😂

I'm a natural hair content creator and Advocate. Cutting off my relaxed hair was the best thing I ever did. I learnt how to be intentional with caring for it myself and other times when I feel off I simply visit a natural hair salon. I wouldn't advise anyone to use harsh chemicals on their hair or skin because all these chemicals somehow one way or the other finds its way into our bloodstream and gradually cause health issues for us especially black women. Let's embrace the way our hair was given to us... its beautiful and unique to the core. I can never see my hair as a burden to me because it's my identity, I would never do anything to Alter its natural state. That being said everyone is allowed to do whatever they want with their hair.

@@rachelabayomi how many Chinese, Caucasian or Indian women do you see or hear complain about their hair but black women will do the most to their hair. Relax, dye, wear extensions to the extent it damages their edges(even some can't even do without it). All I'm trying to point out is that We are blessed and endowed and yet we are not satisfied with what we have. I won't even blame us because all these were part of the colonialists propaganda. But me I'm more aware of my true identity and I'm learning to embrace it. Let us be realistic all those things are harmful and deadly to us.

No I disagree! Do you anyways. But dnt see those who relax their hair has been a sinner or they feel less of themselves. Most do to choose comfort and ease. Relaxing or not relaxing your hair doesn’t define your identity as either black or white. Those you mentioned dnt want to because they know keeping natural hair is painful and who told you white no hey wear Afro wig.. might not be much but they do

@@rachelabayomii see both sides. I think that when we relax we cant take away the anti blackness related to it. Its conditioning. But just cause you relax doesnt make you anti black. Its more of a mindset. Ive had white people ask me how they can achieve my natural hairstyles. Alot of what we perceive as beautiful are eurocentric ideals pushed to us. Some compare relaxing to skin bleaching. At the end of the day the root of it is getting closer to whiteness. But ppl doing it dont always see it that way.

I had my natural hair for about 4 years. Its thickness and shrinkage are authentic curios to go back to relaxers because I'm tired of braiding and twisting out and constantly having to get protective styles because my hair isn't the pretty lossy glossy curls. I felt that because unfortunately, even blowouts or silk presses would only last 1-2 days, even with wrapping before heat and humidity takes over.

Yeah I agree. I'm not the biggest fan of black women having to alter their natural hair just for it to look straight all of the time. Black hair isn't straight, so our natural hair is our own lovely ethnic beauty. It's fine if others don't agree and obviously you can do what you want with your hair, but...I can't be the only one that's kind of disappointed in this...
Honestly I can’t wait to relax my hair. I have such thick natural hair which really overwhelms me these days, limited hairstyling and what not. I want to leave my hair out more.
in the last 4 years ive gone through natural to microlocs , last weekend i cut of my locs (big chop) i want to grow my hair out this time straight and ill be "heat training" its a great alternative to relaxer

I can relateeeeeeeee oh my! I can so relate to that feeling of bondage. I really am not one who has the time to care for my hair and natural hair requires just so much care. Anytime I loose my hair, I have to quickly make a bew hair because caring for natural hair is just a lot. I have full hair and so I can't decide to just leave my hair packed when it's natural and it's so annoying
I think a big part of your decision is you didnt wear your natural hair out in styles for your own personal reasons. So feeling like you need to always wear a wig or braids is def overwhelming. Been natural 18 years and recently thought of perming but barriers are maintenance and pain(scalp always burned). These stylist are wildin with their prices and I cant be bothered. But i wish I could wear a sleek ponytail. Would be my go to style and make life easier!

Been braiding my hair as soon as I undo it. I want to relax as well so as to enjoy my natural hair. And keeping a natural hair routine is a struggle
It’s a lot of work being natural and my wash days drain me! It’s such a strenuous process. I’m getting restless I want to not have worry about my hair so much and just have a easy basic routine
10 weeks is apt for a touch up. Keeping it in protective styles helps to achieve the stretch periods.
I want to relax my hair because I don’t know what to do with my hair but I know it would break my heart to do that to my hair I absolutely love my fullness and thickness.. Relaxed hair look sad to me
I went back to a relaxer after 3 yrs of being natural. Natural hair is very time consuming and I can’t tolerate the pain or braids or weave and wigs make me too hot.
Oh my goodness… I absolutely love wearing my hair in a pony tail pulled back. I get the same bs about doing my hair… I don’t like how I look with weave or wigs and I don’t like wearing my hair down all the time🤷🏾♀️
Hi Kamsi! I love how honest you are and I completely agree with you on the sentiment of people thinking my hair isn’t done when it’s simply slicked back.
