REKOHU | A Short Film on the Chatham Islands
Фильм және анимация
In February 2012 my girlfriend and I flew 800km east of Wellington to Kaingaroa, a small secluded village on the north eastern tip of the Chatham Islands. We were invited by the teaching principal of Kaingaroa Primary School to teach her pupils about filmmaking and music as forms of storytelling. This film was put together from various clips we took during the trip and gives a brief glimpse of what life is like in such a remote place.

that was so cute when the little girl said 'its a hard question'
Beautiful culture. I wish the Moriori had lasted for ever and I hope it strengthens again and shows the world that peace is the best way to live

Why do you have Kim Jong-un in your profile? He's certainly no advocate for peace.

I'm a film student in Christchurch New Zealand and I really liked this film well done! It really touched the heart of the chatham islands and its people.
I ran into Chatham Islands on my phone just randomly going through the maps on my phone . I saw how lonely is looked from the satellite photos and was curious to see how life was there . Awesome video!

Hi there, Kaingaroa Primary School! I visited your beautiful village last week and I can see why you love it so much. Your school looks amazing and I can see that you take such great care of it. Don't worry about not having McDonalds - when you get a bit older you will find out that crayfish and blue cod tastes waaaaaaaay better than a Big Mac or a Filet-o-Fish. Thank you for sharing your beautiful culture with me. I wish you all the best and every success in the future.
I heard and googled few times about Chatham Island, it seems a secret Island, people live in that Islands where located in the middle of ocean, I really would like to visit there one day. Nice video!
Greetings from Montevideo, Uruguay to the people of Chathams Island.
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed the location and the kids. My old hut is long gone. Cheers.
What a lovely film. It's now 2024 - I wonder where all the children are now, 12 years on?
What a great video! I'm from London and the islands looks incredible! Just the sort of lifestyle I would like. I live in Queenstown at the moment, but I'd love to live in the Chathams for a bit!

Ok update; I reckon I wouldn't like to live in the Chathams as such a small isolated community and I know I would find that hard. Still would like to visit sometime.

Looks like a wonderful place to visit, although possibly a bit quiet to live if you're used to a bit more bustle.
Beautiful film.
I am a proud māori from the Waikato (Central north island) and find this island so fascinating 🥰 He tino ataahua tō tātou kainga o Rēhoku/Wharekauri 🥰🥰🥰 I really hope one day to visit this beautiful place, to learn more about rākau momori , to learn more of the language and help with the culture revival and learn more about Nunuku Whenuas Law of Peace and Resistance. I have only just started to research about Moriori and gosh what a beautiful place, culture and way to live . ❤️

I get sick of city life sometimes, too many people, commuting, parking. Plane trip is super expensive though. But if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living, sounds like a great place.
I could live here. NZ mainland and politics is polluted with everything
Bruh never even knew this place existed lol 🤦🏽♂️ very good video learnt something new today
I love nz so much I traveled to nz 3 times can I stay on this island for just 2 or 3 days
Beautiful
great shots and awesome video. what kind of camera did you use for this ?
My eldest son would love to live there. We live in the uk but his Aussie passport might come in useful lol
Population 600??
We watched this for the first time tonight and realised this was 10 years ago. Where are these kids now? I wonder if they all stayed on the island?

A lot of us leave for intermediate and never go back, it's hard to go back to that life for a kid. Maybe one day I'll go back and stay
This is the furthest place away from where i live whih is another island called malta. it apparently takes 4 flights to get to there. Interesting vid
I would love to sail there from the United States. No Macdonald's, no genetically modified garbage food, sounds like paradise.
Does it snow during winter?
anyone knows the name of the song sang by those pupils? cheers
awesome community.. could any native or new zealander tell me how are italians seen out there? I'm a young doctor wanting to live in NZ.

Really? I never heard this story.. where in Italy are these maori people? I'm just very curious. New Zealanders and maori culture are seen with awesome admiration and respect here in Italy.

If you speak good English and are skilled you should be welcomed. Now, I find NZ more racist than other countries (e.g. the UK) - but it's still a damn good place to live. But you would very VERY far from your family and friends. Good luck with your dreams!
cool

my dad says the Moriori are lovely people
I yoseto go to school at kangaroa And I lived there
got all the big crays there yum
Thing about these kids is that. There acting like mature kids. Not the whiney diva lookin kids here on the main lands. 12 year olds posing like a 21 year old.
😇✌️🇦🇺
This is a place where I want to visit, but I live in Michigan and can't seem to find a flight. Same thing with the Falklands.
