I love how Duncan just has the perfect response to Zylus for the "These are not the droids you are looking for" "That wasn't him though." 😆😆 If anyone cares Anakin/Vader couldn't mind control people. Jedi Mind tricks weren't something he was ever good at and he lost any ability he did have after losing his fight with Obi-Wan on Mustufar. He could only sense things about people and his surroundings. He just used choke/torture till they spoiled the beans anyway.

I love how Ben then sited the attack of the clones scene with Anakin mind tricking a bounty hunter in a bar, where not only was it not Anakin, it also wasn’t a bounty hunter.

Regarding Ben's comment on the etymology on the word 'nightmare': it does not refer to a horse at all. The word 'mare' in English has a couple different meanings, one of these being the word for a female horse and another meaning a kind of evil spirit. These two words are spelled and pronounced the same but come from different Proto-Germanic sources. A mare is an evil feminine spirit said to come into your room at night and straddle your chest, making it hard to breathe while poisoning your mind with evil dreams. You can find a similar etymology in Swedish where the word for 'dream' is 'dröm' and the word for 'mare' is 'mara'. The words combine to form the swedish word for nightmare which is 'mardröm' meaning mare dream, like a dream caused by a mare.

Atleast Duncan finally mentioned that if you pull up you go further on a jump, whether the others actually do it or not will be determined in the other videos 😆

Incubus is a distinct demon from the mære. While the mare simply sat on you and caused nightmares, the incubus is a lust demon, the male counterpart of the succubus. Succubi and incubi have intercourse with sleeping people, either feeding on their energy in the process, or impregnating them with a cambion. In many legends of old, incubi and succubi could change to their opposite sex counterpart when appropriate for their victim. Both the lust demons and the mære did trigger nightmares, but that's all the mære would do (well that, and mess up your hair, suffocation attempts never worked). Some places blended the two together (well mainly just the succubus and the mare), which happens a lot when you have mythical beings with similar traits or abilities, for example, fauns and satyrs (fauns were goat-like, satyrs were horse-like, now they are practically synonyms to most people), or sirens and mermaids (merpeople were singing fish people, sirens were singing bird people, now sirens are often portrayed as a more aggressive merfolk, and made all female for some reason).

Death Vader does not have mind control powers. He’s a knight not a consular. He mainly trained in lightsaber techniques. Though powerful in the force, one must train in the ways of the force in order to develop mind control. Obi wans master was a consular. Any green wielding Jedi is stronger in the force then they are at fighting.

Come to think of it, I don't think Anakin ever once uses the mind trick in the movies. We see Obi Wan use it a couple of times, Luke uses it on Bib Fortuna, and Qui Gon tries to use it on Watto.

Welsh cheddar is the best cheddar. I work at a large chain grocer and I take care of our cheese section. I have tried cheeses from all over the place and I fully agree with zylus. We also have a English cheddar and it is nothing compared to Welsh cheddar

Anakin did know mind tricks, but he did not use it on Zam Wessel outside that bar. He did use it on Cad Bane. And attempted to use it on Poggle the Lesser. He also knew a similar trick he could use on animals. He used it on the Reek in the Geonosian arena. I'm not sure why he never used it on anyone as Vader. Maybe he just preferred to keep up appearances. No need to use mind tricks if everyone will be so intimidated they just tell you what you want to know.

Darth Vader cares about agency. I mean, he will order you to do something with the promise of death if refused, but at least you still have the agency to decide.

The truth about the Sith mind trick is they are constantly doing it at low level but across the entire empire. It is used for obedience from the Imperial forces, that's why you don't see a Sith do it specifically to an individual, they're already using it across a vast telepathic field. Just enough to fog the "are we the baddies?" thoughts. This is why individuals "break free" from the Empire like Finn, they have latent Force ability and eventually build a resistance.

Im pretty sure the reason Vader doesn't mind control is the fact that his grasp on the force is much weaker since he's mostly artificial. So he can still do the more brute force techniques but not the refined one's. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Actually the mare in nightmare is probably derived from the Norse martröð which translates as "mare trodden" as they believed nightmares (and sleep paralysis) were caused by being crushed by a supernatural creature called the mara (which in itself is probably taken from the word merja or to bruise, crush, or abrase) the horse connection came in later probably as a bit of a folk etymology. See also haggard which is taken from hag-ridden which is when a nighthag (a witch and/or evil parasitic spirit) rides you to death by jumping on your back, a common problem back in the day. In Newfoundland these myths are combined and sleep paralysis is believed to be caused by an evil spirit called The Hag riding you in your sleep.
