    Luz Destruy Ealmund Tyrande would never give up her love for Malfurion anyway. She chose him and the quest line in valsharah shows how deep that love is. She wouldn't leave Malfurion for Illidan no matter what form he's in and Illidan knows that

    Indeed, it really did seem like mind control.. Which holy magic does have an influence over. (Source: Confession, pain suppression and other mind(particularly emotion)-altering holy spells) Eyes turning golden, then taking a few moments to fade back to brown even after she stopped glowing. The reflection excuse can not explain this. Also this is more fun to believe ;)

    Grom's eyes would glow red in the presence of Mannoroth after drinking his blood. Guldan's weren't much different. Turalyon's brown eyes? Golden in the presence of Xe'ra. Something is definitely fishy about that. Blizzard aren't the types to do such an obvious callback without it having some sort of meaning.

    Well, ironically, I think everyone would grow to respect him as "the chosen one", if he got "light boosted". I think either Maiev or Tyrande would actually fall in love with him and understand his sacrifices or something like that. His brother would finally accept him. There's really this tiny thing, Maiev is a real purist, she doesn't even like arcane magic, because Illidan used to be a practitioner of the arcane and what he is now. It would be an easy way out, in a way. But Illidan likes to be edgy and all that, he likes to do cool shit that makes people hate him. Except the ones that blindly follow him...do they have a freedom? oooh... :O

    I can understand Illidan. I remember some people saying that the Naaru are *too* holy and good and that there is something fishy about them. The Void and the Light are the two opposites of the universe, basically locked in an eternal struggle. Both only have one end-goal: Destroy the others, by all means necessary. It's such a great cinematic, because it shows that even those with the most noble intentions can lose themselves, their principles or fall to darkness on the way. The road to hell is paved with good attentions. Often those who seek to do the most good get blinded by self-righteousness and become fanatic, turning their once noble goal into a twisted caricature. The symbolism with Turalyons eyes is also great. I love this cinematic, because it actually shows one of the biggest dangers in life as a whole: Falling to darkness, because you wanted to do good.

    Except the force of Light is genuinely morally good on an objective scale. The entire point of the Light is healing, protection, and order in the Universe. It is a source of objective morality, and any "immoral" actions taken by servants of the Light, in order to serve the Light, are morally just in the war against immorality and chaos.

    The Void and the Light are flips of the same thing, both only having interest in destroying the other, and both use similliar means. The Void actually seems more up-front about it than the Light, which is a truly terrifying prospect. This also puts reason as to why the Legion is afraid of the Light and Void at once: they know it is a twofaced lie (take the Inquisitor's reaction to bringing Light's Heart to your orderhall as a warlock. This means we've seen that all 4 sides of primal energy have the same goals, and why I expect eventually we will take on the Light, Arcane and direct Fel aswell as the Void.

    I don't know if this is where Blizzard is going with this but I like the idea of the Light trying to "corrupt" all living thing so they can become pawns against the Void, and in the end, we discover that the Light is just as bad as the Void and start defending ourself against it too.

    It'd be interesting, but I doubt they'll go that far. If nothing else I think we're going to find more Scarlet Crusade-esque themes played-up on with the Light. Armies, organizations, and powerful individuals who technically serve the Light, but be it due to desperation or warped mind-sets, they still commit evil acts.I wouldn't be surprised though if we do find ourselves butting heads with the Light in future content.

    If memory serves the Naaru ARE the source of the Light powers for both holy priests and paladins. Horde paladins (blood knights) originally got their powers from a captured Naaru they forced to give up its power. Of course by TBC end the storyline was after Kael'thas defeat and the restoration of the Sunwell other Naaru returned, forgave the Blood Knights, and allowed them to use the Light again. The whole cinematic only felt off in that it was "forced". We saw from a previous cinematic The Legion deceived the original draenei (eredar?) by appearing as beings of Light, and pretty sure they did as well to Azshara. What are the odds the Void aren't doing the same now? They need to corrupt Azeroth ASAP, what's stopping them from attempting the same deception to using us as pawns to stop the Legion and let them waltz into Azeroth uncontested? Also a little off-topic, but has it sunk in exactly HOW LONG Turaylon And Alleria have been gone? They left at the tail end of tht First War, have the lore community wrapped their heads around how much has happened since? When they left, Lordaeron was still a thriving human city. Jaina was a whimsical apprentice. Orcs were still super-evil. Quel'thalas was still WHOLE. Forsaken, Worgen and even Blood Elves didn't even exist yet. The SCOURGE didn't exist, nor the Lich King. Hell while Alleria is aware (and not believing) her sister leads the Horde do doesn't even know she was killed, revived as a BANSHEE, broke control of an undead monstrosity, and is now leading a nation of undead humans. Almost entirely created from the corpses of the city of Lordaeron (which was still alive and well when they left). This is a MASSIVE head-trip, and it makes me wonder why they aren't reacting to Forsaken, Worgen, Orc, Tauren or even Troll players. Remember Alleria did server at hunting and skirmishing with the Armani trolls back then.

    Good question regarding why the Void Lords aren't forcing their wills on others like Xe'ra tried to do to Illidan... Though I think they technically have done so on numerous occasions, only not quite in the same manner. Because we don't know much Void Lords, its hard to say what's stopping them really... Here's my take on it though. While the Light has the Naaru, the Void has the Old Gods. Both fulfill the same purpose more or less: Spread the Light or Darkness/corruption, enthrall followers, ????, profit. To this end, the only thing keeping the Old Gods from doing what Xe'ra tried to do to Illidan is the simple fact that the Old Gods have been imprisoned and weakened for thousands of years. And even then their influence can still be felt, be it directly or through corrupting artifacts. And keep in mind that whenever we combat the Old Gods in the game, there's always some gradual but forceful form of mental influence they begin to have on mortals. So to that end, I think Void HAS been doing the same thing, just a little bit differently. Keep in mind this is just how I'm interpreting the situation posed by your question. I could be wrong.

    I wonder if they're going with a "Army of the Light is corrupt" angle. I don't mean corrupt as in evil, I mean corrupt in the same way the Scarlet Crusade is. Zealots, bent on their holy mission and willing to do anything to see it through. Keep in mind the forces from Azeroth are being lead by Illidan, who thinks strict adherence to the light is a weakness and Velen, who judging by his quest dialog right after the cutscene, is done taking orders from Naaru. Comparatively, the Army of the Light are in stark contrast (note how most of the named ones we've seen in action seem a bit...blood hungry). To me it seems that they've been fighting so long they forgot what they were fighting for to begin with.

  • @wittyreviewer

    @wittyreviewer

    6 жыл бұрын

    I see it a bit more like the Space Marines in WH40K, they may have had a cause once but by now they've been fighting so long they're devoted more to their 'side' rather than reason. Ergo, any methods are acceptable because their magic glowy god thing told them it's ok. Remolding Illidans body is an obvious violation of his right to choose but Turalyon on particular seems pretty chipper about letting it happen. Even Velen himself thinks Illidan had a point and the Naaru have a habit of demanding things whether you like it or not. The Army of the Light are the good guys by virtue of them not being the bad guys, so to speak.

    wittyreviewer That is a pretty good description. I agree the Lightforged seems quite bloodthirsty. It's almost like they are the Light's (or at least the Naaru's) version of demon hunters.

  • @wittyreviewer

    @wittyreviewer

    6 жыл бұрын

    The Demon Hunters are more pragmatic, I think. They at least admit they're doing things that could conventionally be called 'evil'. The person I was thinking of most when I mentioned that bloodthirsty remark was that priest lady you find near the Xenedar wreck, yelling at the attackers. Kinda out of character for a priest to be demanding death and destruction, no? The more I think about it the more it makes sense to me. If you look at it, the game for the last few expansions has had an on going theme of "What are you fighting for?". In Pandaria we saw the lengths members of both the Horde and the Alliance, people we've been trained to trust, will go to to secure 'victory'. On Draenor we learned to fend for ourselves regardless of where you came from, and now we're doing the same on our own planet, and succeeding. Then all of a sudden a giant glowy god thing turns up and tells us follow it? Something doesn't feel right to me.

    I agree with you on the priest comment. Even she admits she shouldn't say stuff like that. And on the ship, after Xe'ra attacks Illidan, Romuul has a quest for you, where he expresses his surprise regarding Xe'ra's attack, and says something along the lines of "I makes me wonder ... if what we do is right".

    I think the Yellow eyes are simply due to them being around Light magical energy for so long as many of the Draenei in the Army of the Light have them too, not to mention different hairstyles and horns than we've seen before. It seems to me like it has the power to mutate just like the Fel can. Since the Blood Elves are now technically feeding off Light energy their eyes would probably be Yellow too if a way to remove the fel taint from beings that have used it existed.

    Its interesting, because in the first Chronicles book (really good read), it said that the light was essentially there 'first', then the void formed in response. In another book (I think the Shattering, set after the Cataclysm), there was a brief interaction where Velen told Tyrande that dranei scientists came to believe that Elune was a very powerful Naaru. He offered their help in trying to contact/communicate, but Tyrande (politely) shut him down fast. I think probably to preserve their culture and so some of the people around them wouldn't overhear. They were at a dinner meeting with other world leaders, but at the time lots of people were chatting amongst themselves. In WoD, I remember they had a good explanation in the Shadowmoon Valley quest chain how that one Naaru got corrupted by void magic, but I don't completely remember specifics; just that it was said that it happened to other ones too.

    Bit late but not really, he didn't want to sacrifice himself and his freedom for a shady deal at power, so far every time power came with a price, a price that is often much greater then the power given, know how Nerzhul was corrupted by Kiljeaden? he was shown that the Dreanei would kill the orcs and the only way to save his people is to help Kiljeaden and drink the demonic blood. Never accept an offer for power by some mighty being, it most likely leads to your demise and the demise of what you want to protect. Im pretty sure that if Illidan had accepted that power he would have defeated the Legion but in the cross fire of the War azeroth and everyone on it would have been obliterated, and as light always casts a shadow that would have led to Illidan a few thousand years later become corrupted, turning to the dark side and creating a new burning legion to eradicate the light.

It's something that has controlled him for years, and he's been convinced that he's been doing the right thing just like how we were convinced that Illidan was "Not so bad" from Xe'ra. So, while I agree with Nobbel, yes he is angry about the destruction of the Naaru, but I think it's partly from the "Little white lies" that that thing has been telling him.

We dont know much about the void lords, their history and similar. We might encounter allies in the darkness and shadows in the coming expansions, who knows. For me, this cinematic shows that the light has its difficulties aswell, it is rather simple. Due to Tyralions life expirience I guess his reaction was only natural, other then Ilidan who was suffered for the greater good. I am very much enjoying your videos. Best regards!

    What if this us all a part of the plan? Xe'ra says in the prophecy, Illidan will be a champion of the light, no matter what, but there will be a price. What if Xe'ra knew she(?) had to die for things to unfold. Perhaps her meddling with Illidan and him ultimately killing her sets things in motion for him to be a leader. A symbolic champion of the light, not a literal one as the prophecy describes Or of course this is all at face value and Xe'ra isn't as perfectly good as we thiught she was, etc etc. Either way this is an awesome development

    I could see it going either way. Admittedly the thought had crossed my mind as well after watching the cut-scene again. Considering she had touched minds with Illidan before, communed with him through the Nether, I'd find it hard to believe that she couldn't anticipate that Illidan might refuse her "gift"... So either she was blinded by her own self-righteousness, or this really is all going according to prophecy and she just pulled a dick move in not telling folks before hand, "So I'm gonna try to force Illidan to become the Chosen One but he's going to refuse and kill me... But don't worry, this is how it has to be."

    I still wonder what difference there is between Sargeras and the titans. Sargeras cut a planet with a world soul in 2 when it was beyond salvation. The titans empowered Algalon to do the same thing.

    Michael The BoomBringer the difference is: the Titans want to contain the corruption and save the world souls to become titans. Sargeras doesn't fuck around and destroy everything until there is nothing left to corrupt.

    Algalon was designed to push the nuke button that will eliminate all life forms with blood and flesh(unlike the metallic titanforged) on the planet, while the planet remained intact and then the titanforged will become the only sentinent beings on the planet to protect Azeroth from any corruption. Now, you might be thinking "Why didn't Algalon press the button to remove the Old Gods?" Well, Algalon was just given the portal spell to Azeroth and nuke authority by the Titans, he hasn't been on the planet until Loken's death in Halls of Lightning which set off the trigger for him to come and investigate. The Titans could've simply told him to nuke Azeroth, but they felt as if the Titanforged Keepers did the good enough job in containing the Old Gods in their enchanted prison and it was unnecessary.

    This was great. Fantastic side stepping of some obvious Space Jesus plot with Illidan accepting the Light. And this puts an interesting twist on the Light and the Naaru in general. Maybe they aren't as pure as we originally thought.

    This cinematic brings about a huge question about our loyalty to the Light being correct. My opinion on this whole thing is, how is the "Legion of Light" any different from the Burning Legion truly, both are fighting the void, and both empower champions to fight, if the Burning Legion had come to us in a guise of good, attempting to win over the leaders of the world, as Sargeras had with the Eredar, would we have been on the side of the Burning Legion? Both sides give power to those who obey their commands, both punish those who don't obey in their ranks (Alleria talking about been thrown in a cell for practicing void magic.) And for all that, how different then are the void lords? They empower champions, Cho'Gall, Deathwing, and seek to rid the universe of the light. Same as the Light does to the void. Sure the Burning Legion wanted to kill Azeroth's World-Soul and the Void wants to "corrupt" the planet, but in the grand scheme of things, *ARE WE NOT DOING THE SAME TO ARGUS NOW*

    I think he was right there. If the naaru managed to force him to become the chosen one, what would Illidan do? He would kill the naaru. The only alternative is that Xe'ra would control his thoughts and decisions, so he would be like the mindless undead of the Scourge. Now why didn't he just accept it at the start? Well he wanted to kill the Legion. And he said that the only way to fight the demons is to become like them. He has also been betrayed so many times, that he can't just trust a great force with unknown plans and purposes, even if they may seem benevolent. But trying to enslave him is clearly not benevolent. My guess is that Illidan wanted to test the benevolence of the naaru. Also, he said that the only way to defeat the Legion is to fight like them. Lots of naarus have died in the war against the Legion, would someone with a portion of a naaru's power be enough? Especially since the Illidari will break up.

    This was a touching cutscene and part of the story for me, illidan as a character is relatable to me and prbably many others who have made poor choices in life and are scared eiher physically or mentally or a combo of both and one thing someone out there who is suffering day to day from those choices as funny as it sounds could look up to this scene and part of the story and illidans character and embrace that those choices and scars are who you are and not to regret them but push forward.

    As much as I like a character not following a "Destiny", am I the only one who thinks it's kind of ridiculous that Illidan can destroy a Naaru so easily, and a Prime Naaru at that? Now I know Xe'ra was just recently made "whole" again so maybe it was weakened but it was destroyed so easily. Either it was super weak or Illidan has "god" like powers. That being said there is the theory that it's not really a Naaru and more a vision of Sargeras trying to trick the heroes like with Velen, Archimonde and Kil'jaedon so who knows. I'm just not a fan of how easily it was destroyed.

    Well one of the novels said that they could shape mountains or sth like that, but if you read the "Illidan" novel, you'll se how powerful he is. I think even though they're powerful, they can easily be destroyed. Take O'ros for example. He died pretty easily as well.

    I thought that too, but tbh I'm not too bothered by it due to Xe'ra being an extreme annoyance with her prophecy talk. With the way she started acting I think Illidan helped us dodge a bullet. Perhaps the Light isn't so good after all,... perhaps they seek to bath all in a cleansing light.

    I like that they show the Naru for creatures that are willing to do anything as long as it gives results. It gives a new air to the whole light-void story... though Turalyon seems like a giant Fan-boy of the light. He didn't fight or question the choise of the Prime Naru Xe'Ra to imprison Alleria, he just accepts it without even a single dought. Don't know do wanna see how they are going to continue the story.
